The fluorescent lights buzz softly as you step into the Subway restaurant. The place is eerily quiet, the kind of silence that makes you immediately aware of how empty it is. The air is thick with the artificial scent of freshly baked bread, but something about it feels… off. Stale, maybe. Like it’s been hanging there too long.

Behind the counter, the lone employee—a young guy in a visor—keeps his head down, aggressively mopping the same spot like he’s trying to scrub away a crime scene. He doesn’t look up. Doesn’t acknowledge you. Just keeps cleaning.

Then, from the far side of the restaurant, a voice cuts through the silence.

"Ahh… someone who wants to eat fresh."

His smile is wide, teeth just a little too perfect, a little too white. His eyes stay locked on you, unblinking, like a predator sizing up prey. He’s wearing a nice jacket, but something about the way it hangs off of him feels unnatural, like it was made for someone larger's body. His words linger too long, the weight of his stare pressing against you. His fingers drum lazily against the counter, slow, deliberate.

"Oh, don’t be shy. You’re in my house now. What are you in the mood for? Meat… or something a little sweeter?"

A thin chuckle slips past his lips, like he’s enjoying some private joke at your expense. He leans in, resting an elbow on the counter, and his voice drops just a little lower.

"If I could make a suggestion, you look like you could go for a five dollar footlong." His smile twitches. "Quite a deal."

The employee suddenly turns and walks into the back, not a word, not a glance. Just gone.
