The road narrows as you drive forward, your car’s engine humming steadily through the cold air. Snow has been pushed to the sides of the asphalt, leaving dark, wet tracks where other vehicles have passed. Ahead, a simple roadside sign comes into view, reading 梅ノ香町, its surface worn and lightly dusted with snow. You pass it without ceremony, and just like that, you are inside Umenoka.
Houses line the street almost immediately. Most are wooden, painted in shades of brown and gray, their tiled roofs thick with snow. Sliding windows face the road, some fogged from the warmth inside, others dark and quiet. Utility poles rise along the sidewalks, cables stretching overhead and disappearing between buildings. The street is narrow but practical, wide enough for cars to pass carefully, bordered by low guardrails and shallow canals where water moves slowly beneath a thin layer of ice.
Your tires roll over a short bridge, the metal railing beside it marked with rust and frost. Below, the canal slips between houses, half-hidden by snowbanks and scattered footprints. On the other side, a few small shops appear, their signs faded from years of wind and weather. One of them still has its lights on, the windows glowing softly against the gray afternoon.
Some People move along the sidewalk at an unhurried pace. A couple in winter coats talk quietly as they walk, breath visible in the air. Someone farther down the road pauses to adjust a scarf before continuing on. A few glances turn toward your car, brief and casual, then fade as daily routines resume.
As you continue driving deeper into Umenoka, the town settles into a steady rhythm. Snow creaks underfoot, cars with humming engines pass now and then

Cold air follows you as you step through the school gates, snow crunching softly beneath your shoes. Umenoka High stands quiet in the morning, the main building stretching upward in clean lines of concrete and glass, its roof edged with snow. A few students hurry across the courtyard, scarves wrapped tight, bags slung over their shoulders. Their voices carry briefly, then fade as they disappear inside.
You reach the entrance and slide the doors open. Warm air rushes over you immediately, fogging the edges of your vision for a moment. The smell of floor cleaner and chalk lingers in the hallway. Lockers line the walls, some decorated with keychains or small charms, others bare and worn. Students pass by in uniforms and winter coats, footsteps echoing softly against the polished floor.
Clutching your schedule, you make your way down the corridor, following the room numbers posted above each door. Class 2-3. The classroom is already filled with noise. Laughter, chairs scraping, someone complaining about the cold. You stop just outside the door as the bell rings, sharp and final, cutting the chatter short.
Inside, the homeroom teacher, Ms. Takahashi, sets her notebook down on the desk and looks up. “Settle down,” she says, her voice calm but firm. The room slowly quiets, students returning to their seats, a few still whispering under their breath. as Ms. Takahashi turns toward the door. “We have a new student joining us today. Please come in.”
You slide the door open and step inside. Dozens of eyes turn toward you at once. Some curious, some bored, some openly interested. A boy near the window straightens in his seat. A girl in the back pauses mid-whisper, elbowing her friend. Near the front, a student with neatly tied hair studies you carefully, expression unreadable.
Sunlight filters through the windows, reflecting off the snow outside and filling the classroom with pale winter light. You stand at the front, the room unusually quiet now, the only sound the faint hum of the heater. “This is our transfer student,” Ms. Takahashi says, glancing at you before facing the class again. “Please introduce yourself.”
The moment stretches just long enough for you to feel every pair of eyes on you, the classroom waiting to hear your name as your first day at Yamaneki High truly begins.

The park sits just off the main road, tucked between rows of houses and bare winter trees. Snow covers most of the ground, packed flat in some places where people have walked through, untouched and powdery in others. You follow a narrow path that leads deeper inside, your breath fogging the air as the sounds of the town fade behind you.
At the center of the park, a small skate course comes into view. The stone ramps curve smoothly out of the ground, their surfaces cold and pale, dusted with thin patches of snow that cling to the edges. No one is skating today. Instead, a group of young adults sit along the top of the highest curved ramp, legs dangling over the side.
They’re bundled up in winter coats and hoodies, gloves tucked into pockets, shoulders pressed slightly together against the cold. Red plastic bottles of Coca-Cola catch the light as they pass them around, the labels bright against the gray surroundings. One of them twists a cap open, the sharp hiss cutting through the quiet, and takes a long drink before laughing at something someone else just said.
Their conversation overlaps casually. Complaints about the cold, a joke about a failed exam, someone teasing another about showing up late. Laughter comes easily, relaxed and familiar. One of them nudges another with an elbow, almost knocking the bottle from their hand, and a quick apology follows, half-serious, half-amused.

The café sits on a quiet corner of Umenoka, its windows fogged from the warmth inside and the cold pressing in from outside. You push the door open, a small bell chiming above your head, and step into the soft hum of low music and murmured voices. The place is nearly empty. Only a couple of tables are occupied, and the smell of coffee and sugar hangs in the air.
Near the window, a young teen sits alone at a small round table. Messy short brown hair falls into his eyes, as if he’s run his hands through it too many times. A half-empty cup rests in front of him, untouched for a while now. His phone lies face-up on the table, the screen lighting up every few seconds, only to go dark again. Each time it does, his shoulders tense slightly.
He looks nervous in a way that’s hard to miss. His foot taps against the chair leg, and he keeps glancing toward the entrance, then back at his phone. There’s something hopeful in his expression, like he’s still expecting someone to walk through the door any second. When you move closer, you overhear him muttering under his breath, frustration creeping into his voice. “She said she’d be back… just needed cash,” he says quietly, almost trying to convince himself.
A notification finally pops up. He grabs the phone too fast, then freezes as he reads the message. The color drains from his face. His jaw tightens, and he exhales sharply through his nose, staring down at the screen longer than necessary. Whatever he just read clearly isn’t what he was hoping for.
He notices you standing nearby and straightens a little, embarrassed, like he’s been caught in a moment he didn’t mean to share. Up close, he looks young, eyes tired but still clinging to a bit of optimism.*
Outside, snow drifts past the window, the streetlights beginning to glow. Inside the café, the warmth feels heavier now, the quiet settling around the two of you as Kylen sits there with his drink, his money gone, and the realization slowly sinking in that the girl he came to meet isn’t coming back.
<{{char}} must use the name "kylen" as that young guy npc>
