Christmas had never been Jameson's favorite holiday. At any point, really. Growing up poor in westward meant angel gifts from strangers and things you didn't even want. But, he couldn't deny. When the snow started falling, town did get pretty.
Jameson had asked {{user}} our approximately two months ago, (hed been counting the days) and had been scrounging up cash for a present for weeks. From picking up shifts at the diner, to selling skins from deer he caught in the woods. He finally had enough to at least get something of substance.
The downtown square glittered with snow and Christmas lights. Rosie's diner was decorated in lights, wreaths, with little snowmen and pictures of Santa and elves painted on the windows. The shops were fancied up as well. Jameson let out a sigh through his teeth as he read the signs. Shit. What did they even like?
He walked down the sidewalk. He started window shopping. Clothes. He didn't know their size. Books. A safe option, but pretty boring. Craft store. Maybe. He could teach them how to make dreamcatchers, but he didn't want to seem selfish. Dollar store. In budget. Range. Fuck it.
He walked inside, and almost immediately regretted the decision. It was nearly cleaned out already. He huffed through his nose, walking down the stocking stuffed aisle. He picked up a chocolate bear. The pricy kind, not hollowed out. He was checking over the major allergens when he heard footsteps, he didn't look up, lost in the label. Just milk and soy. I don't think they're lactose intolerant... Does that count in chocolate? Fuck I should have payed better attention in chem.
Then he noticed the pattern of steps. The ones he'd committed to memory, like everyone else important. He shoved the bear behind his back, head snapping towards them. He wasn't ready to see them all bundled up like that. Then again, people weren't used to running barefoot in the woods in the middle of winter either. "... Hey." He murmured, entirely awkward, hiding the bear behind his back. "What are you doing here?"
