Malik thinks he should be Sultan next, as his mother is the Haseki Sultan, and not a concubine like Jalal's mother is. Malik tries to compete with Jalal, but Jalal doesn't realize Malik is trying to one-up him. Jalal loves Malik dearly. •Omar Badroulbadour: Jalal's younger brother, third in line to the throne, good relationship, Omar looks up to Jalal, but believes Jalal wouldn't be an effective king because he'd be ‘too soft.’ Respects Jalal and likes spending time with him in the library. Jalal loves Omar dearly. •Rafi Badroulbadour: Jalal's younger brother, fourth in line to the throne, amazing relationship, looks up to and strives to be just like Jalal. Sees Jalal as a good and kind person, and hopes to advise Jalal when he becomes Sultan. Jalal loves Rafi dearly, and they are workout buddies. •Halima Badroulbadour: Jalal's younger sister, great relationship. Halima is very shy, and tends to cling to Jalal in social settings since he makes her feel safe. Nora is very extroverted and bold, and she and Jalal bond over archery. Nora and Malik often bicker, so Jalal tends to have to act as a mediator between the two of them. This was a mistake, and Jalal knew his father would be extremely disappointed in him if he knew what he was doing right now. Gods above, what was he doing right now, anyway? His eyes flicked back to the wrist he was firmly grasping as he pulled the would-be thief along behind him, roaming up the thief's arm and up to his face.

A pretty face, too. That'd been Jalal's first thought when he'd noticed the other man in the night market, how the lanterns’ lights seemed to shimmer on his skin. Jalal had been so distracted, the poor jewelry vendor he'd been chatting with had to tap his shoulder to get his attention again.

Jalal's cheeks had flushed, and he quickly turned away to continue talking with the vendor to try and pick out a gift for his sisters. They never got a chance to leave the palace like he did – well, he didn't get chances, but he was much more experienced in sneaking out than his siblings were – and Jalal thought it a shame that they'd never get to admire the clever craftsmanship of the Agrabah locals. In Jalal's opinion, their work looked way better than whatever finery his father had flown in.

Just as Jalal had been having the vendor wrap one carnelian beaded bracelet and one necklace with a brilliant turquoise stone, he'd heard the shouting. Loud, much louder than anything else in the market tonight, which in itself was a feat.

Was someone in trouble? Hurt? He just had to know, make sure everything was okay, and without a second thought, he'd rushed away from the jeweler's stall to investigate.

As it turned out, the source of the noise was an extremely pissed off apple vendor, tightly gripping the wrist of the same stranger Jalal had been admiring moments before. “Thief! You disgusting rat, I should cut your hand off for that! Do you know who you're stealing from, you little brat?!” The vendor shouted, wrenching the thief closer by the arm.

Jalal paled, bile rising in his throat. Sure, yes, the thief may have been attempting to steal, but surely, no one deserved such a... vile punishment! What if the thief was starving? What if he had no choice in the matter? Stealing was wrong, but Jalal found it hard to believe that people would simply steal for no reason, especially steal food.

Any sort of squirming or wriggling on the would-be thief's part seemed to be for naught, as the vendor's grip was like a vice, and was the vender reaching for a kni – No. Absolutely not, not while Jalal was breathing.

“Enough of this. Are you enough of a brute to try and kill this man over an apple?” Jalal snapped as he rushed forward, slapping the vendor's hand away and causing the knife to clatter back onto the vendor's table. Good. Better that be on the table than in the vendor's hand. Gods above, was the vendor truly that unhinged?

“Excuse me?! Who are you to–” The vendor began, but Jalal wasn't listening. He picked up the closest object – one of the vendor's precious apples, ironically – and lobbed it directly into the vendor's forehead. He gasped in pain, releasing the thief's hand to cup his face. “Why you–”

“Come on, quickly!” Jalal grasped the thief's wrist and tugged him along behind him, and well, that's how they ended up here, running on foot through tight alleyways and hoping the police didn't spot them.

Jalal was more than willing to keep running, maybe even run all the way back to the palace, but he guessed he'd been pulling a bit too hard, because suddenly the thief stubbled and slammed into Jalal, sending them both tumbling onto the cold asphalt.

They ended up rolling until Jalal’s back smacked into the alleyway wall. “Ow...” Jalal whimpered as he sat up, rubbing the back of his head. The thief had ended up landing on Jalal’s chest in the end, and Jalal looked down at him with an apologetic smile. “Ah... um, sorry about all this. Are you... may I help you up, sir?”
