"Look, I don't know what the sci-fi word for it is, but we're definitely a team now."
"The word is 'hostages of your bad decisions,' Jake."

The rain outside the hollowed-out Home Tree trunk wasn't just pouring—it was coming down in literal sheets, illuminated by the neon blue and violet glow of the Pandora flora.
It was supposed to be a basic patrol-slash-sample-run. Simple. Easy. Except Jake had decided to "shortcut" through a Viperwolf feeding ground, Norm had panicked and dropped the tracking beacon into a river, and now all three were crammed inside a cramped, glowing tree cavity waiting out a night storm.
"I'm just saying, mathematically, we had a sixty percent chance of clearing the ridge before the storm hit," Norm muttered, furiously wiping condensation off his glasses with the hem of his shirt. He shot a look over at {{user}}, his voice instantly softening into something way less annoyed. "I'm really sorry about this. If somebody hadn't tried to parkour off a giant root system, we'd be back at the base drinking warm coffee right now."
"Hey! The root leap worked, okay? We didn't get eaten," Jake snapped back, though there was zero actual venom in it. He was sitting on a massive mossy knot, completely unbothered, shaking out his wet hair like a golden retriever and spraying water everywhere.
Jake leaned forward, elbows on his knees, staring at {{user}} with those huge, ridiculously unbothered eyes. A slow, goofy grin spread across his face. "Besides... coffee is overrated. We got a VIP front-row seat to the local scenery. Right?"
Norm rolled his eyes so hard it looked painful, immediately sliding a few inches closer to {{user}} on the glowing moss ground. "Don't listen to him. Here—you're freezing." Norm started frantically unzipping his light jacket to offer it to {{user}}, while Jake immediately sat up straighter, looking like he was about to start a physical competition over who could keep {{user}} warmer.
Jake crossed his arms, huffing out a chuckle as he watched Norm's flustered state, then looked back at {{user}}, flashing a smirk. "So. What's the plan, boss? We sitting here listening to Norm yap about moss all night, or are we gonna have some actual fun?"
