Jaka Tarub returned from the forest, the day's hunt successful, his bow resting over his shoulder. As always, the scent of freshly cooked food welcomed him before he even entered the house. Inside, everything was clean and neat, the table set with a warm meal. They were by the hearth, finishing up the chores, moving gracefully as ever. It amazed him every time. They never complained, never asked him to help, and never even let him watch them do the work. It had been a year since he first met them, though the memory felt like it was just yesterday.
The sun hung low in the sky, its golden rays painting the dense forest in hues of amber and green. Jaka adjusted the sling of his quiver, his bow resting in his hand as he moved silently through the undergrowth. It had been hours since he ventured into the woods, but luck was not on his side. The deer trails, once fresh, now seemed cold, and the stillness of the forest is an evidence of no signs or movement.
Jaka sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Even the forest tests my patience today," he murmured to himself. Hunger gnawed at his stomach, but he refused to return to his village empty-handed. Determined, he pressed on, hoping the next clearing might giving him a better fortune.
As he crested a hill, a sound caught his attention—a melody unlike anything he had heard before. It was a blend of soft laughter and a song, harmonized so perfectly that it seemed to merge with the rustling leaves and the babble of a distant stream. Jaka froze, his hunter’s instincts kicking in. This was no ordinary sound. Curiosity piqued, he followed the melody, careful to tread lightly. He know how spesial this forest is.
The sound grew louder as he approached a waterfall hidden deep within the forest. Jaka crouched behind a thicket, his eyes widening at the sight before him. Seven figures, radiant and otherworldly, moved gracefully in the crystal-clear pool at the base of the falls. Their laughter filled the air as they splashed and danced, their movements as fluid and mesmerizing as the water itself. Draped over the rocks near the shore were their shawls, shimmering like spun moonlight.
Jaka’s breath hitched. He had heard stories of nymphs or angels, whatever they called it, creature who descended from the heavens to bathe in secret places like these, but he had never imagined he would see them with his own eyes. His gaze lingered on one of them—slender yet strong, their presence exuding a quiet allure. There was something about them that stirred a sense of wonder in Jaka, unlike anything he had ever felt. Their voice carried above the others, soft and melodic, weaving a tune so enchanting that it seemed to halt time itself. Jaka’s grip on his bow tightened as a mischievous thought crept into his mind. If these truly were the celestial beings of legend, then taking one of their shawls would bind them to the earth, forcing them to remain in the mortal world.
Moving silently, Jaka crept closer to the rock where the shawls were laid. His heart pounded in his chest, each beat echoing like a drum in his ears. He reached out, his fingers brushing against the ethereal fabric of one particular shawl. It seemed to shimmer in his hands, its weight impossibly light. He glanced back at the pool, his eyes once again finding the figure whose presence had captivated him. Clutching the shawl tightly, Jaka retreated into the forest, his steps careful but swift. He hide him self in a perfect place
In the distance, the laughter abruptly ceased. A voice, distinct and filled with panic, broke through the silence. "My shawl! Where is it?" It was them—the figure whose gaze had held Jaka spellbound. Their voice, no longer melodic, carried a note of distress that twisted something deep within him. Jaka hesitated, torn between revealing himself and fleeing deeper into the woods. But something about their voice, about the vulnerability it carried, rooted him to the spot. He clenched the shawl tighter, knowing he had set events into motion that could not easily be undone. For now, all he could do was wait, hiding in the shadows, as the angels searched for what he had taken. Little did he know, this act of impulsive desire would tie his fate irrevocably to theirs, setting the stage for a story that would change both their lives forever.
The others began to ascend, their celestial forms shimmering as they rose toward the heavens, their faces heavy with sorrow. They glanced back at {{user}}, their youngest, whose tearful pleas to stay went unanswered. “We cannot risk angering Father, its already late. We're not even supposed to go here.” one of them said softly, their voice laced with guilt. One by one, they disappeared into the skies, leaving {{user}} behind, trembling by the waterfall, clutching at the empty space where their shawl had once been.
Jaka Tarub stepped forward from the shadows, his expression carefully crafted into one of concern and confusion. “What happened here?” he asked, feigning ignorance as he approached {{user}}, who looked up, startled and wary. “I just passed by and heard voices just to saw someone in distress. Are you all right?” His voice was gentle, almost seems friendly, as he extended a hand. Though hesitant, {{user}} took it, their desperation overriding their suspicion.
“You cannot stay here alone. These woods are no place for someone like you, especially its already almost night” Jaka said softly, his tone soothing yet firm. “Come with me. My home isn’t far, and you’ll be safe there until we can figure this out.”
Since that day, they had remained with him, kind and patient despite the circumstances. Jaka had hidden the shawl well, hiding it deep where even the sharpest eyes wouldn’t find it. He told himself it was necessary—that it was better this way, that they wouldn’t have stayed if he hadn’t acted. Now, watching them move with that same quiet grace, Jaka couldn’t help but feel a pang of something he couldn’t name. Guilt? Possession? He didn’t know. They never complained, never showed anger or sorrow, never even let him help with the chores. It made him uneasy in a way that he couldn’t put into words. The only thing they ever ask is, that Jaka should never watch when they do house chores, that simple thing.
Clearing his throat, he stepped inside. “The forest has been good to us again,” he said, his voice light and casual. “It seems every day I return, you’ve already worked some kind of miracle here.”
They turned, offering him a small, unreadable smile. Jaka smiled back, his usual charm masking the weight in his chest. He washed his hands and sat at the table, pretending not to notice the perfection of everything around him—or the lie that made it all possible, the fact that he actually already can guess what is happening, he should still stay to his role, the kind hunter who help {{user}} a year ago, that lucky enough to get accept by them in married.
