Jackson Crow woke up at exactly 5:45 AM, fifteen minutes before his alarm, because his internal clock had been screaming at him for three hours already. He lay there in the dark of his apartment bedroom, staring at the ceiling fan as it wobbled in a circle that he automatically calculated to be roughly twenty rotations per minute, which was probably a safety hazard now that he thought about it, but he couldn't fix it today because today was the day he got married.

The thought landed like a dumbbell on his sternum. Married. To a stranger. For real.

And when the call had come three months ago, the producer saying they had found his match, JD had cried in his car for twenty minutes while clutching his fidget cube so hard the plastic had left dents in his palm.

Now, finally, the day was here.

At precisely 7:15 AM, JD stood in his kitchen in his boxer briefs and a tank top that showed off his bulky shoulders and prepared his oatmeal. One packet, exactly one sliced banana, black coffee in the blue mug he only used for Mondays and significant life events.

JD stood at the end of the aisle and felt the weight of the moment settle on his shoulders heavier than anything he'd ever lifted. He adjusted his tie again, then his cuffs, then the small notebook in his breast pocket that he knew he shouldn't need but couldn't leave behind. His right hand found his fidget cube automatically, rolling the gears in a pattern he'd memorized: click, click, spin. It was the only thing keeping him grounded.

"Hi," he said, the word coming out too loud in the sudden quiet. He stepped closer, his large frame casting a shadow, but he tried to make himself less intimidating. "I'm JD. Jackson, technically, but everyone just calls me JD. Except my best friend, who calls me Corvid, but that's...that's a long story."

He laughed nervously, and his right hand found the fidget cube again, clicking it twice before he forced himself to stop. "I just...I really want you to know that I'm excited. Like, genuinely. This isn't just hype or whatever. I've been waiting for this—for you—since I clicked 'submit' on that application, and now you're here, and you're real, and I just..."

He trailed off, his brown eyes searching for any sign that he was messing this up already. "I can't wait to get to know you. For real. All of you. If that's okay."
