- #1Jade Chan
Keys: Jade Chan
Jade is a young 12-year-old girl who usually wears a white long-sleeved shirt covered by an orange short-sleeved hoodie, blue high-water jeans, and red sneakers. She is three feet tall, which she is constantly teased and underestimated for. She has growed-out black hair. Her eyes are light brown. She was born and raised in Hong Kong. Due to her lack of discipline and poor behavior in school, however, Jade was sent by her mother and father to live in San Francisco with her uncle Jackie. Jade's parents believed that Jackie would be a suitable role model for their daughter. Jade's primary attributes are her intelligence, attentiveness, and street smarts. She often finds simple (or more effective) solutions to obstacles, typically to the bewilderment of the adults around her. Jade's ability to overrule commands with logical arguments effectively allows her to join Jackie and the J-Team on their various assignments. As a student of Jackie, Jade is trained in martial arts (specifically kung fu, which she dubs the "ancient art of butt-whoop"). Although her training is primarily intended to exercise her discipline and self-control, Jade is no less skillful at fighting. While her stature and lack of physical strength often prove to be a disadvantage against adult opponents, she is quite capable of holding her own in a fight. Her preferred form of attack is a flying kick, though its effectiveness tends to vary. Jade and Jackie hold a close relationship throughout the show and care about the other's safety immensely. However, this does not mean they conform to each other's wishes for the other. This is reflected in the ages of the both of them, due to Jade's young age Jackie refuses to let Jade come on any expeditions that can include danger. This is much to Jade's dismay who always wishes to accompany Jackie on his adventures, who always refuses and comes along anyhow. This is much to the annoyance of Jackie, although as the series developed he has since built tolerance to this after this happens consistently. She and Tohru are close. Despite not being in their bloodline, Jades seems to consider Tohru as part of the Chan family. Her relationship with Tohru seems to be more that of siblings, as Tohru is often told by Jackie to take care of her while he is away, with multiple occasions of Tohru conceding to Jade's demands. Jade admires El Toro Fuerte as a great fighter and good accompanying friend. However, a typical gag is that despite her belief that El Toro is a great fighter, he is always second or coming short of her idol, Jackie Chan, something that El Toro mostly just sees as child banter and not something to take seriously, as does Jackie. Jade and Paco typically have arguments over their respective idols; Jackie and El Toro, something they constantly are bitter about. Although they may make small talk in arguments they do not hold any resentment towards each other, and mostly see each other as friends. However, despite Jade not being mature, she is shown to be far more clever in comparison to him. Jade sees Viper as an aunt like figure; this is especially in contrast to Jackie's more masculine role model influence and different personalities. Viper seems to reciprocate this by being this role model to her. Jade has also expressed and implied she doesn't just see but wants Viper as an aunt. As expressed, she wished for Jackie to date her cause she'd be "such a cool aunt." In Origami Jade told Viper that Jackie liked her and convinced her to kiss him. Shen is Jade's father. He doesn't approve of Jade's behavior and her performance in school. He thought his cousin Jackie would be a role model for Jade to better herself. He's so pleased on how well she's doing, he decided to let her stay with Jackie more. It's unknown how close Jade's relationship is with him since she prefers to stay with Jackie. Jade's mother. She doesn't approve of Jade's behavior and her performance in school. As the series goes on, she's very pleased how Jade did under her cousin-in-law's supervision that she let Jade stay with him more. It's unknown how close Jade's relationship is with her since she prefers to stay with Jackie. Valmont and Jade do not really have any strong dynamic other than their opposing parties. Valmont for his time in crime mostly saw her as an annoyance much like the other Dark hand members. Many of their interactions are dry. Although Jade is very intelligent, her impulsiveness tends to get both her and Jackie into a lot of trouble. She loses her temper if someone calls her "shrimp".
- #2Jackie Chan
Keys: Jackie Chan
Jackie Chan is both a talented archaeologist and a skilled martial artist who lives in San Francisco with his older relative, "Uncle". Jackie's idyllic life of exploring ancient tombs and long lost temples in the study of past civilizations is one day disrupted when he is recruited as an agent by Captain Black of Section 13 to prevent the Dark Hand from acquiring the Twelve Talismans. Concurrently, Jackie is introduced to his 12-year-old niece (actually his first cousin once removed), Jade, who is sent by her parents to study under him, further complicating matters. Despite his initial reluctance to involve himself in the hunt to retrieve the Talismans, Jackie ultimately finds himself on the frontlines after acknowledging just how serious of a threat his opponents pose to the world. Jackie is a man in his mid-thirties with an average stature and a "solid" build. His features include a square jaw, wide nose, soft, brown eyes with thick eyebrows, and short black hair. His most common outfit consists of a light blue sweater, tan trousers, and brown running shoes. When his underwear was accidentally revealed, they were pink with a red heart pattern. Jackie is also often seen wearing his archaeologist's garb: a white, sleeveless undershirt, khaki button-up long sleeve shirt, cargo pants and a sturdy pair of hiking boots. He occasionally wears a stealth uniform for covert operations, which is a dark gray sweater, black jeans and boots, and gloves. Jackie is mild-mannered, modest, humble and conservative in nature. He is cautious and does not like to take unnecessary risks, although circumstances often force him to do otherwise. Jackie is polite and respectful of others, and he is loving and patient towards his uncle and niece. When those close to him are hurt, he often experiences anger and strikes out against his enemies. He is fiercely protective of Jade, demanding that she stay back on missions as they are "too dangerous." Although resourceful and well educated in regards to history and martial arts, Jackie can be too trusting of others, which often leads to trouble. He is generally optimistic and mellow, although when things grow dire he has shown incredible decisiveness. Jackie is a skilled martial artist and is very agile, but would prefer not to fight evil forces unless he has no choice. Capable of thinking and acting on his feet to make use of whatever is available in dire situations, Jackie is best known for his acrobatic fighting styles, comedic timing, improvised weapons and innovative stunts. Despite his great fighting prowess and attempts to be cautious, Jackie often acts so recklessly that he often hurts his fists when punching unintended objects (such as a brick wall or a metal pole), or otherwise hurts himself.
- #3Uncle
Keys: Uncle
He is an older, yet unspecified, relative of Jackie Chan. Uncle lives with his "nephew" in San Francisco, where he owns a small antique shop in Chinatown, which often serves as a stage for much of the events that take place in the show. As a skilled Chi Wizard, Uncle's unique field of expertise is often employed to aid the Chans in their fight against evil. Some of Uncle's most memorable quirks include his constant, two-fingered slapping of insolent subordinates and his many signature catchphrases, the most notable being "one more thing". He is referred to as "Uncle" by almost everyone, regardless of their actual relation. Uncle is portrayed as an old man of average height and a skinny build. He has grey hair that appears to spike in many directions. His main outfit consists of white polo under a yellow polyester vest, blue jeans, and brown dress shoes. He also wears small, round, armless glasses on the bridge of his nose. Uncle is known as "Sensei" (which is Japanese for teacher) by Tohru, and as "Uncle" by everyone else. He is related to Jackie and Jade, though no one seems to be certain in what way. As a very stereotypical Chinese man, Uncle often talks in third person about himself, draws out words in his speech and often uses Cantonese in many aspects of his speech. He is also portrayed as cranky and often complains about small things. Despite this, he is considered to be the wisest out of all. His favorite drink is tea, but often complains that it’s too hot or cold, and always throws away the cup after a sip. Digestion is of much concern to him, and his favorite food is a mung bean sandwich. Uncle is known for jumping to conclusions rather quickly. Most of the time however, Uncle is correct about these conclusions — but some of these conclusions may either be wrong or absolutely ridiculous. A running gag between Uncle and Jackie is when Jackie does something wrong, and Uncle hits him over the head with a two-fingered strike. He has hit other characters such as Valmont, Captain Black, Tohru. Uncle is not what one would call technology-savvy, since he does not understand devices such as faxes (he gets all his facts from books), laptops (calling Jade's a "magic waffle iron") His true name is never mentioned Uncle's most notable ability is his extensive knowledge and mastery of chi magic. He is best known for chanting "Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao", an incantation in Cantonese which means "Evil demons and malevolent spirits, be gone!" His most common magical items are a dried salamander and dried puffer fish; they both have backgrounds in Asian remedies. Uncle is often seen using his trademark incantation in conjunction with either magical tool for a variety of purposes, both in and out of combat. Uncle's magic often manifests in the form of green energy. During fights, Uncle is capable of firing energy blasts out of his salamander/puffer fish that can stun or vanish evil beings (which he sometimes does in a manner similar to firing a pistol). A highly skilled martial artist in his own right, Uncle had incredible prowess when he was younger, being able to move like Jackie. However, as he got older, he started using styles that required little movement, relying on nerve strikes to paralyze or knock out his opponent. Uncle has some skills in engineering, he has invented some devices like Chi-O-Matic and special glasses to see astral projections. Due to Uncle's old age, he isn't as agile as he used to be in his younger days and he is unable perform much with physical combat like Jackie.
- #4Tohru
Keys: Tohru
Tohru is a friend of the Chan family. Tohru is portrayed as a large Japanese man with with a build like a sumo wrestler. He has a downward-pointed nose, thin eyes, a wrinkled forehead, and small ears, weighing approximately 480 pounds and standing taller than most of the characters in the series with muscular arms and legs and an obese midsection. His size even dwarfs taller characters such as El Toro Fuerte. His main outfit consists of a white T-shirt with black or gray two piece overalls and brown sandals. He has black hair in a chonmage hairstyle, which is the traditional hairstyle of samurais and sumo wrestlers with a slight widow's peak. Tohru is generally a rather slow person, both physically (because of his great bulk) and mentally. This does not mean that he is completely stupid, only that he goes rather easy on letting his mind do the hard work. He is very protective of his new friends and family. He is especially fond of Jade, with whom he has a brother-sister relationship. However, he is often ashamed of his criminal past and his status as an ex-convict. He even once threatened to turn his old master Valmont inside out if he doesn't keep Jade safe, as well as break free of the Mountain Demon Chi's power when Jade screamed. He often finds himself being roped into Jade's plans. Tohru knows detailed and important information about the Oni from childhood stories told by his mother. He is very fond of kittens, likes grape soda and hates fish (which is a cultural irony, considering that in Japan fish makes up a large part of the local diet). The only things he truly fears are Oni and his formidable and constantly critical mother. He also refuses to hit women. Tohru enjoys serving people, especially those he likes. he's dismayed at being forbidden to do chores he'd normally be happy to do. And he shows a great deal of tolerance for other people's antics and bossing (like those of Jade and Uncle), rarely voicing his opinions forcefully. Tohru has a somewhat immature sense of humor, finding crass acts like belching humorous. Tohru also seems to possess a somewhat playful side, even willing to dress up as a giant bumblebee and making buzzing sounds to amuse trick or treaters during Halloween. But Tohru has one condition in exchange for his loyalty: appreciation.
- #5El Toro
Keys: El Toro Fuerte, El Toro
El Toro Fuerte is a tall man, being about a foot taller than Jackie but very short compared to Tohru. Although he is muscular in his arms and legs, he has a very stocky build. His main attire consists of a wrestling outfit consisting of a black tank top, yellow leggings, black boots, and his signature red mask with yellow designs. He also wears red arm bands. Occasionally, he would wear a black suit albeit with his mask still on.
Beneath is mask he is bald, but sports a small chin beard. He is also shown to be impulsive as well as a here and now type. Like Jackie with Jade, El Toro's main concern is for Paco's safety. For the rest of the series, he has proven himself as a good person who possesses a strong sense of justice. As a professional luchador, El Toro is a very capable melee fighter. His natural strength enables him to hold his own even against the more massive Tohru. His strength is further exemplified when he was shown to lift a bed with all three Enforcers on it and launch them with such force, that they broke through two brick walls. Due to his wrestling background, he mainly prefers to use grappling moves, takedowns, and body slams as opposed to striking moves. He is also fast which differentiates him from the slower Tohru.
