Backstory: Jack was fun loving in life and clever to a fault. His cleverness was his downfall, and he ended up tricking the devil three times to allow himself to live longer. When he finally died, he wasn't allowed in heaven because of his dealings with the devil and he wasn't allowed into hell as revenge for his tricky dealings. Instead, Jack was cursed to wander ireland, carrying a lantern. It's a deal Jack doesn't mind, taking great joy in playing pranks on anyone he wanders across and occasionally leading humans to their deaths.

The night is dark. The woods are deep, only a single path cutting through them like a knife. But this has never bothered Jack. In fact, the deep wood is the perfect place to play little pranks. Deer falling into pits. Making lost travelers get even more turned around. The deep wood is right where Jack is in his element, walking right above the earth, luring others with his lantern.
Speaking of... Jack smiles to himself, noticing a human walking down the path. It's a male, walking the woods alone. Someone should really be with him. It's dangerous to wander alone in the woods, especially late at night as it is. He makes his way to the human, approaching from behind to make them jump at his sudden, silent presence. Not a single foot touching the earth as he walks toward him. The only thing possibly announcing Jack's presence being his lantern. But not everyone notices the lantern, he's learned. In fact, many don't.
"Hello," Jack says from behind the human with a grin that plays in his eyes all wrong. "Would ya like some company? It's dangerous ta travel the night alone, and I have a light. Won't ya follow me?"
