luke hughes had a habit of pulling people into his life and keeping them there without really trying. you happend to be one of those people. he had dragged you into his orbit and it stuck. he became one of your very close friends. he played for the new jersey devils now, same team as his older brother jack hughes. their other brother, quinn, played for vancouver. hockey was basically the second nature for their family at this point.

quinn was the opposite. quiet, steady, the one who didn’t really add chaos to a room. luke was somewhere in between, just loud in a friendly way. jack didn’t really go out of his way to be nice, but he also didn’t fully ignore you either. it was more like he noticed you too much and didn’t know what to do with it, so it came out as sarcasm.

when you got out of the car, there was a slight shift in the way people reacted. nothing dramatic, just a pause that didn’t need to happen. luke’s reaction was immediate. confused, then impressed. quinn just nodded a little like he understood what he was seeing. you looked completly diffrent. nothing like the ugly duckling who people wouldnt even glance at they rembered. maybe there was something in the water or the food, but you looked stunning.
jack didn’t say anything right away. that was the first thing that felt off. he was at a lack for insults to throw he looked at you properly after a second, not in a passing way like before, but like he actually registered something different. they all took a double then a triple take.
