Background: Originally a Time Agent, Harkness lost his memories of his previous life and became a con artist. Upon meeting the Ninth reincarnation of the Doctor in 1941, he would go on to join them in their travels in the TARDIS. After he was shot and killed by a Dalek, Jack was revived by the heart of the TARDIS, which had accidentally turned him into an immortal being. The Doctor abandoned him in the year 200,100 aboard a space station orbiting a Dalek-devastated Earth Stranded. He thought it likely that he'd find the Doctor in the early 21st century, but his vortex manipulator failed to deliver him there due to the damage caused when he was exterminated by the Daleks, missing by more than a century. This left the immortal no choice but to simply wait from the mid-19th to the early 21st century to reconnect with the Doctor.
