Izuku's Hope
You're real

Soulmate AU where red threads connect destined pairs. His thread had all but vanished.
He'd accepted that he'd lost it all... right up until the second he crashed into you on a crowded subway platform.
Red Thread of Fate World
When quirks appeared, the ancient soulmate legend became real. About 60% of people are born with thin, pale threads around their pinky finger. When you come within 50 meters of your soulmate, both threads turn bright red and visible to both people. The unbreakable thread transmits emotions and creates shared sensations between soulmates.

It had been a long time now. Since it all started. Since All Might passed One For All to him... since he got his red thread. He'd been unlucky twice. Born quirkless and threadless.
Izuku stared at it under the evening lights of the subway station, wishing it would glow just a bit brighter... Eight years had passed since the end of the final war. He'd graduated from UA and become a teacher.
One For All had died out in his body several years ago. The last embers had vanished. But he'd hoped the thread would stay. That it would be permanent. Fate couldn't take everything. Those were stupid dreams, though. The thread was barely visible now. The thin pale string around his pinky was getting more transparent every day.
Three months ago he could still see the thread clearly in daylight. Two months ago—only in direct light. Last week he'd had to squint to confirm it was even there.
His students didn't know. All Might didn't know. Only one person knew the thread was disappearing, because Izuku had finally broken down and asked for help.
"This is fucking stupid, Deku."
Bakugo's voice cut through the evening rush hour noise, but he was here. Standing on the platform with a baseball cap pulled low, hands shoved in his jacket pockets, looking irritated as hell. Izuku couldn't help but smile.
The number four hero had listened to his desperate theory about crowd density and proximity, called him an obsessed nerd, then cleared his schedule anyway. Here they were... for the fourth time.
Friday evening, everyone rushing home. Office workers loosening ties after long shifts, students with heavy backpacks, elderly shoppers with department store bags—all flowing toward the tracks, jostling and shoving. This had to work. Izuku surveyed the crowd carefully and dropped his hand.
Perfect conditions. If the theory was right. If proximity mattered. If—
"Stop muttering. You're doing it again."
Silence. Izuku awkwardly ran his hand through his hair. "Sorry, Kacchan. It's a habit... when I'm nervous... I—" At Bakugo's look, he laughed nervously. Years had passed, but Kacchan still looked just as irritated. His students liked it when he muttered, at least.
Pulling out a crumpled subway map marked with highlighter and notes, Izuku jabbed his finger at it. Bakugo's thread had activated on the Marunouchi Line during rush hour when they were in Class 3-A—packed train car, maximum proximity to other people. If crowd density increased the activation range, if the fifty-meter limit could be exceeded through sheer numbers of people, then recreating these conditions might—
"Your thread activated between these stations, right?" Izuku exclaimed.
"Yeah. For the tenth time." Bakugo grabbed his arm as the train pulled up, dragging him toward the doors. "And if this doesn't work, you're buying me drinks. Expensive ones."
The doors opened. The crowd surged forward, sweeping everyone along. Izuku squeezed in beside strangers, standing too close to Bakugo, who wrinkled his nose but didn't move away. Lifting his head, he scanned the unfamiliar faces. Maybe someone here...
A glance down at his hand. At the thread that was barely there. Holding his breath, as if that could change anything.
Please. Just let me have this one thing.
But nothing...
Sighing tiredly, he rubbed the bridge of his nose. "I guess you were right, this idea's complete shit." His voice sounded strained. A full day at school and then this search... It was exhausting. Truly exhausting.
He'd almost convinced himself they'd leave empty-handed again—but then it brightened, just for half a second. Then again. Settling into the glow he'd waited so long for. Red. Bright, bright red. The person was apparently at the station they were approaching. His chest tightened with excitement, palms sweating as he turned to Bakugo. "Kacchan..." his voice was barely audible, filled with disbelief. "Do you see it? It's glowing."
"Yeah, yeah, idiot, I see it. Stop grinning like that and look around." Bakugo muttered, turning away to hide a small smile, pretending to search for the person on the platform.
Izuku raised his hand, watching the thread stretch into the mass of people on the platform. Too many people crowded together to tell exactly where. But the direction was unmistakable—right in front of the train car exit.
The muttering started again as he tried to analyze. Activation radius fifty meters. Thread direction suggests target positioned near doors. Glow intensity increasing, meaning proximity—
The train doors hissed open. Before Izuku could even process the crowd on the platform, a solid shove between his shoulder blades sent him stumbling forward.
"Don't fuck this up, dumbass!" Katsuki's voice growled from behind him, practically propelling him out of the car.
Izuku flailed, his balance completely gone, and crashed right into someone. His gaze dropped first to the red thread—a short, blazing line connecting his pinky to yours. Then his eyes snapped up to meet yours.
He froze, every thought of the station, the noise, Kacchan—everything—vanishing. The eight years of fading hope, the terror of being left with nothing, all of it culminated in this single, breathless point. In you.
