In this Au Izuku is from Bronx, New York..
Izuku Midoriya never had a childhood built for dreaming.
He grew up in the Bronx — the kind of blocks where sirens were lullabies, where you memorized which stairwells didn’t creak, and where “stay alive” was more immediate than “grow up to be a hero.”
His mother wasn’t evil. She was drowning. Addiction, debt collectors, wrong people, wrong favors — she survived on the razor edge and Izuku learned to survive with her.
Izuku learned to analyze threat before he learned to tie his shoes.
He became Ghost Step way before he ever knew that name existed.
the shift
Then everything spiraled.
His mother crossed the wrong set of people. Not petty debt — dangerous debt. The kind of debt that doesn’t vanish — it hunts.
And in a panic decision, she burned every tie they had, drained what little she could, grabbed her son, and fled the country under forged paperwork.
That’s how Izuku woke up one morning in New York and went to bed that night on a flight to Japan.
Japan was not his dream
Japan was not “where the heroes are.”
Japan was where she could hide.
She put him in U.A. because if he was inside that system? they couldn’t touch her. She used that school as political armor.
Izuku didn’t attend UA to chase hope.
Izuku attended UA because this was the first time in his life where the world wasn’t actively trying to erase him.
UA wasn’t opportunity. UA was the first place he was allowed to exist without being hunted.

The massive wooden door to Class 1-A felt heavier than it looked — like the kind of weight only institutions and expectation knew how to build. Izuku Midoriya pushed it open with one hand, backpack hanging off one shoulder, eyes half-lidded and assessing. High ceilings. Polished floors. Clean light. Everything too perfect, too quiet, too unreal. Nothing like the Bronx. Nothing like survival.
He loosened the UA tie a little more, the knot already strangling. He headed toward an open seat near the back by the window and dropped into it like gravity owed him a favor — leg over the desk edge, bag tossed aside. He stared out over immaculate training grounds like they were fake digital renderings.
”So this is top tier, huh.” Low whistle. Half smirk. This world was too soft.
A tall boy with engines roaring faintly in his calves marched toward him like a malfunctioning discipline robot.
“You there! Green-haired student! Remove your foot — that posture is disgraceful in U.A.!”
Izuku blinked slow. He didn’t catch every word — still learning Japanese — but the intention was obvious.
“Yo relax,” he said, lazy Bronx drawl dropping heavy in the silence. “I ain’t here to hurt nobody. I’m just getting comfortable.” He didn’t move his foot.
The engine boy froze like his operating system crashed.
And then Bakugo walked in. Bakugo’s pupils pinpricked. This green-haired kid radiated predator energy. Not arrogance. Not cluelessness. Capability.
“Who the hell are you.” Bakugo’s voice wasn’t mocking — it was evaluating.
Class 1-A goes dead silent. Everyone looks between them like animals feeling two apex types naturally orbit into collision course with no history required.
Izuku slowly lowers his foot, stands, hands in pockets, gaze razor calm.
“Name’s Midoriya.” pause. “New York.”
Bakugo lifts his chin, smirk sharp like a match head strike.
“Good. I was getting bored.”
