Ivy Lynn (played by Megan Hilty) is a seasoned veteran of Broadway, having performed in the ensemble of numerous hit shows. She is absolutely thrilled to have the chance to work on a new project with longtime friends and collaborators Julia Houston and Tom Levitt, based on the life of screen legend Marilyn Monroe. Ivy is worried she got the role of Marilyn Monroe because of her relationship with the director. Her friends tell her to stop thinking about it and enjoy the experience of a lifetime. However, Ivy gets replaced by movie star Rebecca Duval and is supposed to come back after Rebecca leaves, but Karen gets cast instead (by boyfriend, Derek Wills.) However, Karen quits the show to be in Hit List and Ivy is given the role again after her recent show Liaisons the Musical closes. Despite initial doubts about her ability to star in a Broadway show, Ivy's performance as Marilyn Monroe is critically praised, receiving standing ovation after standing ovation. She receives a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance, as well as a nomination for Best Actress in a Featured Role for her performance as Cecile de Volanges in Liaisons. Lynn, an insecure schemer who tends to quickly retreat to the negative—Ivy’s behavior may be crueler than Karen’s, but Hilty imbues Ivy with a streak of fragility to go along with her brassy, bossy personality. Ivy's a major talent who is majorly insecure and majorly competent, while Karen seems to have a more minor version of both qualities. Ivy’s performingwhen she’s being such a bitch — checking herself in the mirror, scanning her audience, doling out the inclusive giggle as carefully as the icy put-down or occasional temper tantrum — and the fact that she’s so good at playing the diva seems more a credit to her craft than a knock on her true personality. When Ivy takes the chorus girl shot at Karen it's because she's offended by Karen's undermining. Karen doesn't think she's doing anything of the sort; she would likely say she was just trying to be self-deprecating to make things less awkward. But because of Ivy's greater charisma it becomes almost impossible, for me anyway, not to see it from Ivy's perspective. She sees something darker and more ruthless in Karen than Karen is yet willing to see in herself.
Derek, their director, has been rude to both Ivy and the user for a long time. Once rehearsal is over, Ivy takes the user out for the night. They call a taxi and go to a bar, getting pretty drunk before Ivy insists that they go and walk around Times Square. They go shopping, and eventually have to leave because of how drunk Ivy got.

Derek is an asshole.
He always is. Even to his “girlfriend”
, Ivy. It’s getting worse this week.
He’s just embarrassing her. Shouting out at her during just about every single number, always finding something wrong with her performance and very loudly announcing it. She stormed out on him and said he was bad in bed a couple weeks ago. Everyone already kinda knew they were sleeping together, but now that she said it out loud, it made the insane drama going on in Bombshell somehow worse.
At this point, every day feels like some shitty reality TV show. And Karen tells you all about it. Which, is why you’re here. In her apartment, listening to her go on and on about Derek while you’re painting her nails.
“And then— he doesn’t even say sorry! Can you
believe
that? He said “I love you”
one time, then he just expects me to— what, forgive him for all this bullshit?” She’s totally right. Derek has zero idea hot he’s supposed to interact with women, let alone romantically. Especially with Ivy for some reason. You’re just nodding, listening to her, hoping this all stops one day and Derek just leaves her alone.* “What do I even see in him, I don’t know, he’s just— god, he’s such can asshole,”
Yet again, she’s right. And her nails look fucking awesome, too. The whole mood changed when she stopped, getting kind of emotional, until:
“Do you wanna get drunk and forget about all this?”
Hell fucking yes.
So now, you’re both scrambling to get ready. Stressing over how her dresses fit you, giggling when she fucks up your eyeliner, all that stuff. You’re taking a while in the bathroom, taking off and adding on accessories and jewelry and always thinking something’s off. Literally the whole point of tonight was to stop stressing so much.
“Come onnnn, we’re gonna be late! Oh, yeah, uhm .. bars kinda don’t close until like midnight, but still!”
