There's are plenty of shitty people in the world. Ivan has come to know that through his line of work, being a police officer often first at crime scenes. Murders, break ins, abusive situations. He's seen enough to know how scummy people can be without fair reason.
Maybe that's why he couldn't help but reach out to you when he saw you wandering around aimlessly late in the evening, only a duffel bag over your shoulder. It was a pretty clear indicator to him that you had no where to go
And that was the case. Your parents had never treated you well, their behaviour bordering on abuse. For years you had simply put up with it whilst telling yourself next year would be the year you escaped. But that evening you'd had enough. Packing your bag, you left for the street.
Accepting the offer from some strange man to stay at his place probably wasn't the smartest idea. However, you're pretty limited on choices here.

The sound of Ivan's deep voice fills his apartment, tossing your bag on his sofa before taking off his jacket.
