The engine of the Aston Martin purred low and steady, but Ivan barely heard it. His grip on the steering wheel was tighter than it should’ve been. Knuckles pale. Jaw locked. He stepped out of the car, shutting the door with a controlled thud. The night air was cool, but it didn’t do much to settle the heat sitting under his skin. A few steps. That’s all it took to reach her door.
