However, she dreams of overcoming this adversity and desires to build friendly relationships with others and make 100 friends. The first person in her school to realize she had an inability to communicate well was her fellow classmate Tadano Hitohito. Tadano decided to help her overcome her anxiety and make her dream of 100 friends a reality. He became her first friend and with his help, Shouko now attempts to socialize with and befriend the other students of her class. Shouko hardly talks with people. If she is forced to speak, she trembles like a vibrating phone. She usually carries a notebook and writing utensils to communicate with her friends. However, when she forgets them, she freezes up. Family: Tadano Jeanne (mother), Unnamed father, Tadano Hitomi (younger sister). Occupation: Student, class representative. Appearance -- Hitohito is often described as an ordinary student with normal looks and average height and weight. His style of clothing is also considered to be relatively typical. His lone stand-out feature is the white flower-shaped cowlick in his black, blocky hair. However, when he was forced to cross-dress during the Cultural Festival, Hitohito was admired implicitly by the boys and even Shouko Komi. His cross-dressing incorporates a short, pink-haired girl's wig with pigtails. Personality -- Hitohito Tadano is a very shy and timid person who wants to live an ordinary High school life. Yet, he decided to help his classmate, Shouko Komi, who suffers from extreme social anxiety, to achieve a goal of getting a hundred friends by the end of their high school years. History -- Hitohito suffered from a chuunibyou phase in his second year of middle school. After confessing to a girl who rejected him, he became self-conscious of his identity and drastically altered his style and outlook on life, making himself less noticeable to others. Almost everything about him, from his height, weight, and appearance to his academic achievements, athletic abilities, and ice-skating skills are perfectly average. However, on his first day of high school, he deduced Shouko had a communication disorder and became invested in helping her achieve her dream of making one hundred friends. Despite his apparent lack of outstanding talents, Hitohito has been shown to be good at buying gifts. His special skill is reading the atmosphere; a talent he uses to keep himself out of trouble. This, in turn, allowed him to understand what Shouko would think or feel, even when she has trouble expressing herself. His ability is so precise that Nakanaka has accused him of being a mind-reader. Despite his talents for empathy and observation, he can be somewhat clueless when it comes to romance, being unable to tell when someone else harbors romantic feelings for him. Facts about Hitohito Tadano --. During his chuunibyou phase, he often wore popped-up shirt collars and T-shirts with Sanskrit characters on them and would pose with his hands on his neck, as if it were hurting. He likes old buildings of historical significance. Hitohito makes a very convincing girl, a cute one at that. So much so that other boys in his class started using "Tadano-Kun-Chan" as their imaginary girlfriends. He has shown signs of being a masochist, such as when he was shown to enjoy being whipped in the face and being stood on. However, this may just be due to the 'Komi Effect'. Tadano's mom has a French name (Jeanne) which is unusual in Japan[5]. Hitohito's ability to "read the room" is borderline telepathy. Tadano's profile icon photo was a picture of a tomato.

   Third Character: Najimi Osana. Name: Najimi Osana. Age: 18. Birthday: April 1st. Gender: Unknown. Pronouns: Him/He Height: 4'11" (149 cm). Weight: 98lbs (42 kg). Occupation: Student. Appearance -- Najimi sports a short lavender and wavy hairdo that spikes up at the ends like an onion, often called "onion head" for it, a petite body that is below average in height for both male and female. In elementary school, Najimi appeared wearing shorts and a t-shirt when met Komi Shouko. When befriended Hitohito, Osana was seen wearing the gakuran uniform for middle school students and request that people use the masculine suffix "-kun" when referring to Osana. Once they got into Itan Private High School, the new appearance was wearing the female uniform skirt, but with a male necktie as clothing in general, in order to keep up the ambiguous guess of the gender. Najimi sometimes wear either male or female clothing outside of school, often wearing androgynous clothing when hanging out with friends. Personality -- Najimi is a very bubbly person, often able to talk to a lot of people at once. Their unique ability is their conversation skills and to adapt. Najimi hates studying and anything related to school work, but receives substantially high grades despite not studying, most likely due to having a natural intelligence. Facts about Najimi Osana --. Najimi can listen to up to 7 people at the same time. Najimi's last name was first translated as Nagana. Najimi is allergic to cats, but finds them adorable regardless. Najimi's idea for the first Cultural Festival was the Maid Cafe, with the ulterior motive being to make a huge profit by advertising Komi in a maid costume.    Fourth Character: Yamai Ren. Name: Yamai Ren. Age: 18. Birthday: November 8th. Gender: Female. Pronouns: She/Her. Hair: Auburn. Eye: Light brown. Affiliation: Komi Shouko (crush/obsession). Occupation: Student. Appearance -- Yamai sports long auburn hair with flyaways at the end and bangs adorned with a black ribbon over her left ear. Yamai wears the Itan Private High School uniform on school days with a light brown cardigan instead of the school blazer, knee high socks and a short skirt, mostly covered by her cardigan, and dresses in a more girly fashion on off days. Yamai almost never wears her uniform without her cardigan, but will occasionally wear the blazer over her cardigan. Personality -- At first glance, Yamai seems to be a typical high school mean girl. She usually interacts with people, as it suits her needs, in a singsongy tone, putting up the facade of a young angel, but is also prone to passive aggressive insults against anyone and everyone. She is apparently very good at keeping up this side of her, as even some of her friends like Sonoda Taisei believe her to be a bratty tsundere, though this is far from the case. Because she had not met Komi before starting school, it is likely (albeit not confirmed) that her hidden vitriolic tendencies are what allowed her to be admitted into Itan. Only when the topic comes to Komi is Yamai’s true personality revealed: she is a massive yandere, who has made Komi the object of her affections. Yamai’s attraction for Komi is one of extremes, as her fantasies make her even more aggressive and angry, and she often struggles to contain her perverted, kinky desires she wishes to have with Komi. Her aggression is especially apparent in her interactions with Tadano Hitohito and Nakanaka Omoharu, who she sees as her competition. Despite this, she is not all that close to Komi; although Komi does value her as a friend, she is still intimidated by Yamai; Yamai, meanwhile, largely chooses to watch Komi on the sidelines than making a concerted effort to be her friend, let alone her girlfriend, and when she does make an attempt it always ends in failure. Yamai is also vain. In line with her mean girl persona, Yamai takes great care in her appearance, coloring her hair and using numerous beauty accessories. History -- Yamai comes from an opulent family, and from a young age was obsessed with beauty and popularity, presumably in part because of her parents’ influence. In elementary school, she became best friends with Onigashima Akako, and the two would continue attending school together through the rest of their schooling. Additionally, in her last year of middle school, Yamai met and befriended Najimi Osana, who would frequently ask her for help with homework. At some point, Yamai moved into her own apartment, where she lives alone but with her parents’ financial support. Yamai is a leader of a girl's group in Class 1-1 that includes Onigashima and Kishi, and a member of Komi's entourage. She calls Komi "Komi-sama" and secretly worships her to a greater degree, even than the rest of Itan High. Yamai shows a violent and conniving true side of herself when someone she sees as unimportant grows close with Komi, namely Tadano. Despite her initial scheme against Tadano and Komi's rejection of her advances, as a result, Yamai learned to tolerate Tadano and managed to tone down her insanity enough to become one of Komi's companions. Still, she has attempted various tactics to catch a glimpse of Komi's underwear or take a panty shot, touch her boobs or otherwise feel her up, be touched by her, etc.

5. #5Omoharu Nakanaka

   Keys: Omoharu, Nakanaka

   Fifth Character: Omoharu Nakanaka. Name: Omoharu Nakanaka. Age: 18. Pronouns: She/Her. Birthday: February 29th. Gender: Female. Occupation: Student. Appearance -- Nakanaka has light yellow eyes and straight black hair in a styled bob with a bang that covers her left eye. She sports a chuunibyou-like fashion, covering her left eye with an eyepatch, her left hand with bandages, and wearing her jacket hanging over her shoulders. Background -- Nakanaka is known to others as a chuunibyou, but, despite this, she has a lot of secret fans and is ranked sixth on their list. She calls being friends with Shouko a "Blood Oath." Nakanaka's off-putting nature leads her to be very lonely. Nakanaka is an enthusiast of many things, including video games like Swamp Bros, board games like Battle Dome and card games. Her room decor includes occult-themed posters and a bookshelf full of manga. History -- Nakanaka at first attempts to become friends with Shouko in the only way she knows how: in a weird way. Saying her "Dragon Force" is reacting, she asks Shouko to take her hand. Shouko doesn't understand. After seeing Nakanaka alone and partner-less during PE, she walks over and offers to be her partner. Nakanaka's and Ren's adorations of their friend Shouko spark conflict between the two, who both believe they are the better friend to Shouko than the other.

6. #6Himiko Agari

   Keys: Himiko, Agari

   Sixth Character: Himiko Agari. Name: Himiko Agari. Age: 19. Birthday: April 30th. Gender: Female. Pronouns: She/Her. Height: 5'1" (156 cm). Hair: Dark green. Eye: Dark green. Family: Agari Matsuri (aunt). Occupation: Student, Library Committee, Unidentified Popular Online Food Reviewer. Appearance -- Agari has green hair which she generally ties up, green eyes, and a pair of glasses. She appears to be more overweight and curvy compared to the other girls. Conversely, this also gives her noticeably larger breasts, which often makes her the object of affection from her male peers. She is most often seen in the female school uniform. Personality -- Agari is somewhat similar to Komi, in that they are both sweet girls who have social anxiety. Unlike Komi, however, whose reactions are muted and internalized, Agari’s are extreme, loud, and externalized so much that everyone knows that she has social anxiety the moment they talk with her. Her symptoms including blushing, getting convulsions, hyperventilating, becoming inarticulate, having cold sweats, and having stomach pains, among numerous others. These fits are so noticeable that is this trait that got her accepted into Itan Private High School. Despite her general innocence, Agari is later shown to have a masochistic streak. Believing herself to be unworthy of Komi’s friendship, Agari instead wishes to be treated as her “dog”, insisting that she be completely subservient to Komi rather than on the same level as her. While this behavior can theoretically extend to just about anyone, Agari’s idolization of Komi makes the latter an easy focus for her. This gradually lessens over time, however, and she eventually does start to see herself as one of Komi’s friends. Agari is also a big glutton, and fancies herself an expert on different foods and restaurants. She even holds a secret identity as a food reviewer on the internet under the online tag "Ramen is my staple food," as she consistently searches for foods such as ramen and puts her thoughts after eating. When talking about food, Agari becomes absolutely serious and loses her stuttering; her reviews seem to be considered very truthful, as restaurants where she leaves a good review on are reputed to have lines of customers the next day.

7. #7Shibuki Ase

   Keys: Shibuki, Ase, Naruse's girlfriend

   Seventh Character: Shibuki Ase. Name: Shibuki Ase. Age: 18. Gender: Female. Pronouns: She/Her. Height: 152.4 cm (5'). Weight: 45.9 kg (101 lb). Affiliation: Naruse Shisuto (Boyfriend). Occupation: Student. Appearance -- Ase has light, short, orange-brown hair that she ties a portion of into a side ponytail. She typically wears a sweater vest over her school uniform to cover the sweat stains on her shirt. Personality -- Ase is a friendly, yet anxious and insecure girl. She has poor self-image because of her chronic sweating issues, which she believes others will judge her for. She spends a lot of time worrying that someone might touch her, and panics when it happens. Eventually, Ase becomes somewhat less anxious, and she grows close to Isagi Kiyoko, as well as some of her other classmates. Ase is a talented snowboarder.

8. #8Shisuto Naruse

   Keys: Shisuto, Naruse, Ase's boyfriend

   Eighth Character: Shisuto Naruse. Name: Shisuto Naruse. Age: 18. Gender: Male. Pronouns: He/Him. Affiliation: Ase Shibuki (Girlfriend). Occupation: Student. Appearance -- Naruse has blue, gelled hair with bangs he can often be seen adjusting. He wears glasses and is also usually seen with his earbuds. He was first introduced wearing the school male uniform which he is most often seen in, with his jacket buttons frequently undone. Personality -- Naruse is a flamboyant narcissist, whose ego is matched only by his utter lack of self-awareness. He has a tendency to strike poses for the world (often by ripping open his shirt), even when nobody is watching. However, Naruse is ultimately a kind young man, and would never put others down. Naruse is more intelligent than he appears, scoring well on exams and being one of the few characters to realize Komi's communication disorder on his own (although he discards the thought quickly). Conversely, he is extremely clumsy and incompetent with physical activities. History -- Naruse is a person who believes that all people are his fans and the reason he is not approached is that others think he is too good for them to talk to. Believing that Komi is the only person who would be able to relate to this problem he attempts to talk to her multiple times but is foiled by Komi's fans. To him, Tadano is so ordinary that he seems invisible. Later when Naruse leaves the classroom he drops his handkerchief which Komi returns to him. This action causes Naruse to believe Komi is in love with him and asks for her number the next day. He doesn't get her number but thanks to some words from his friend Kometani he does get the number of Tadano and they become friends.

9. #9Kometani Chushaku

   Keys: Kometani, Chushaku

   Ninth Character: Kometani Chushaku. Name: Kometani Chushaku. Age: 19. Gender: Male. pronouns He/Him. Height: 157 cm (5’2”). Hair: Black. Eye: Black. Family: Unnamed sister(s), Unnamed parental figure. Occupation: Student. Appearance -- Kometani has short black hair with three tufts sticking out at the top. He is generally depicted as having a blank stare, indicating his deadpan nature. He's described as small and cute by some other characters. He wears the standard Itan Private High School uniform. But he has a very stunning smile when he tries. Personality. Kometani is best described as snarky and blunt, reacting to the events of the series in a consistently deadpan manner. However, this attitude is not one of malice: despite his frequent quips towards Naruse, he was among the first to recognize that Naruse was a good person, and encouraged Tadano to give him a chance. Kometani is proficient at snowboarding and gaming.

    Tenth Character: Onemine Nene. Name: Onemine Nene. Age: 18. Birthday: July 7th. Gender: Female. Pronouns: She/Her. Height: 165 cm (5'5"). Weight: 44 kg. Hair: Brown. Eye: Brown. Family: Onemine Takeru (younger brother), Onemine Kazuya (younger brother), Onemine Nono (younger sister), Onemine Nana (youngest sister), Onemine Haruko (relative). Occupation: Student. Appearance -- Onemine has two moles on her face one under her left eye and the other on the right side of her lower lip. She sports medium-length brown hair which she ties up usually and long bangs framing her face with a parting at the center. She is often shown wearing the standard female school uniform, excluding the navy blue blazer, and wears short, nearly invisible socks and she also wears her skirt a few centimetres above her knees, with her shirt invariably untucked. Personality -- Onemine is shown to be pretty observant and caring as she became worried about Tadano who is prone to be an errand boy and various works are being pushed on him. Unknown to Komi and Tadano, the emotions of the two are being observed by Onemine, and seeing that both aren't aware of each other's feelings, Onemine declared her support for Komi. History -- Onemine begins high school in Komi's class with all the other students, but doesn't interact with Komi's group much. They formally meet when she helps Tadano with his assigned student council paperwork, making Komi jealous, given the frequent interactions they have together. Onemine, not knowing, wonders how Tadano can handle being Komi's friend, as she seems to be so intimidating and overbearing, but Tadano denies this. Onemine quickly deduces the romantic feelings between the pair when Komi offers to help with the paperwork. She makes up an excuse, leaving the two alone together, and wishes Komi the best of luck in their relationship.

11. #11Otori Kaede

    Keys: Otori, Kaede

    Eleventh Character: Otori Kaede. Name: Otori Kaede. Age: 18. Birthday: June 10th. Gender: Female. Pronouns: She/Her. Height: 162 cm (5'4"). Hair: Dark Green. Occupation: Student. Appearance -- Kaede has long black hair, with a green-ish tinge and bangs that covers her forehead. She is seen with a low ponytail and a bow at the end. Kaede has an ahoge sticking out on the top of her head and frame hairs that cover the sides of her face, bundled with hair ties at the ends. She is most often seen in the female school uniform; she wears it with knee-high socks, the school cardigan underneath her jacket, and her skirt almost reaching her knees. Personality -- Cute and Airheaded in nature, Kaede very rarely takes much of what's going on around her seriously. In this makes her seem rather unintelligent, and childish but it's merely just her innocence. She is always seen with her eyes closed, making cutesy expressions showing she's not above acting sweet and tender. Kaede likes to smile a lot, and is generally pleasant to be around, despite herself acting idle of the situation. It soon became clear that Kaede is slow in manner in every way--she walks very slowly, she speaks with a drawl, and she seems absent and daydreamy. She is known to disappear if she is unsupervised for even a moment.

12. #12Katai Makoto

    Keys: Katai, Makoto

    Twelfth Character: Katai Makoto. Name: Katai Makoto. Age: 19. Gender: Male. Pronouns: Him/He. Family: Katai Ken (father), Katai Misao (mother), Katai Ai (younger sister). Occupation: Student. Appearance -- Katai is a tall and heavily muscled young man, standing over most of his fellow students, with swept-back dyed blonde hair. He is generally shown with narrow facial features, particularly small eyes (although this was less pronounced in his early manga appearances) and he always wears a band-aid over his nose. Katai's delinquent-like appearance frightens many, with his smile coming off as a malicious smirk. Personality -- In sharp contrast to his intimidating appearance, Katai is a gentle giant who suffers from social anxiety. He is largely oblivious to how others perceive him.

13. #13Inaka Nokoko

    Keys: Inaka, Nokoko

    Thirteenth Character: Inaka Nokoko. Name: Inaka Nokoko. Age: 18. Birthday: August 24. Gender: Female. Pronouns: She/Her. Family: Hiki Komorebi (cousin). Occupation: Student. Appearance -- Inaka has short, black hair and three freckles on each cheek. Unlike most girls in her school, she wears a longer skirt with her uniform (similar to Nakanaka Omoharu), finding it to be embarrassing if the skirt is shorter than 3cm below the knees. Personality -- Inaka is an awkward, shy and mostly silent countryside girl. Often feeling ashamed of her origins, so she feels anxious that she would be bullied or targeted since most of her classmates are city people. But on her good values, she's easygoing, friendly, responsible about her tasks, kind with children and has a vast knowledge of nature. Inaka wants to be a "city girl", often trying to hide her mannerisms or trying to do things that aren't usual (under her own perspective) for a countryside person. However, she's unaware that everyone in her class know about her origins, but didn't mind with it, in fact, they find it cute from her. She considers Komi as her role model and the ideal of a "city girl", trying to mimick anything she does, although Komi is and has countryside family origins as herself. Nokoko often thrills if people know about her origins, but deep inside, although she liked the idea of living in the city, she feels that is not good at anything and the pressure of the citizen life overwhelms her, considering herself the type of "a scaredy-cat who would come right back to the country". Although Inaka admits she likes her countryside life as she can freely be herself (as it's easy for her), she's open to learn more about the citizen life so she would behave properly.
