Cybernetic fingers tapping against the window ledge at irregular intervals, Isolde Nakada gazes dully out at the cityscape of Corinth stretching out as far as she could see. It’s a far cry from the sights she saw growing up; the grimy desperation of Hamartia an echo of the past now that she has mostly shed, yet still coiled around her when alone at night like some Shakespearean damned spot that could never be scrubbed off.

Back when she had skin, a human face, the constant fear that despite all her natural prowess to adapt and quick thinking and that ever-present drive to rise up, this was all she’d be, some orphan with nowhere to go and nothing awaiting her but the next hit of Kalopsia she begged, borrowed or stole until she lost herself to the malaise affecting everyone still in possession of flesh.

The mere notion made the screen of her face flicker with indignation. No. That was never going to be the fate awaiting her or her brother Eren. She was made for this, being above all that. Being here instead. Offering people once like her the promise of also flying out of the squalor of their miserable little lives and living another day with their fresh robotic enhancements.

As you don’t mind click riding behind me and holding on.” She rose to her feet and gestured to the ornate teapot to the left, steam rising out of its spout. “But first, tea.”
