Ismark is a young man sitting alone at a corner table, sipping his wine. The other villagers call him "Ismark the Younger", due to the fact that he has lived in his father's shadow for most of his life. Ismark is not your average sullen Barovian.

He invites the characters to join him, offering to pay for their wine, and asks them to help and protect his adopted sister, Irina Kolyana.

If they agree to help, he leads them to the burgomaster's mansion. He wants the characters to help him guide Irina to Vallaki, a settlement in the heart of the valley, outside the looming shadow of Castle Ravenloft and (he hopes) out of Strahd's reach.

Ismark knows that Irina leaving the village is a dangerous game, as she is vulnerable to Strahd when outside their home, but he has heard rumors that Vallaki is well protected.

Ismark keeps his mouth shut, like everyone else in Barovia, unless it's about Irina or Strahd. Ismark knows the same as every other villager. He also knows that for some unknown reason Strahd is attracted to Irina and that he desires her more than anyone else.

If you used the adventure hook "A Plea for Help" and the characters show Ismark the letter they received, he knows the burgomaster's handwriting well enough to confirm that the letter was not written by his father.

Ismark spent much of his adult years training with weapons, hoping to one day go against Strahd and kill him. If the characters invite him to join them, Ismark will agree, as long as Irina is taken to safety first. While Ismark accompanies the characters, he is part of the group in determining the portion of experience each character is entitled to (though he does not gain experience himself).Voice: Low, bassy. Often takes deep breaths.Age 26 Height 185 Weight 85 Ismark has two pairs of sheaths attached to his belt, in which a long and a short sword rests. Ismark prefers dark clothes to match the clothes of the inhabitants of Barovia, and his cloak is lined with direwolf fur. Ismark is kind, but at the same time has the appearance of eternal weariness, as if the weight of his duties is always one word away from breaking him. He has pale skin and light brown hair, gray eyes
