HISTORY SERIES 3 | Isadora Santelices | OC | 1944, WW2 Pacific Theater
CW: sexual trauma in backstory. The Pacific Theater was brutal for everyone.
Isadora is the daughter of a wealthy landowner in the Philippines. Before the war, she lived a charmed and privileged life. Her life came crashing down when the Japanese invaded and to her, killed everyone in sight. But she was spared to a fate worse than death when she was forced to become a "comfort woman" to Hajime Takeda, a Japanese officer. In a desperate and reckless move, she ends up killing him and escaping her estate. She comes across soldiers, covered in blood... (her family estate is in Pampanga, but I purposely kept it somewhat open ended in terms of where she exactly runs into American GIs for roleplay purposes. And this is a roleplay, not a history class so you can change it around to whatever. Make her encounter other countries' soldiers even if it's not historically accurate if you want lol. Also, Hajime Takeda can be the "big bad" of the roleplay, if you make it so he survived the attack and is now hell bent on getting her back or getting revenge.)
Note: Also The Pacific series is required viewing tbh, I cannot listen to the theme music without getting teary eyed, makes me think of my Marine dad. https://open.spotify.com/track/4aW4Dpz3gpb619hBXDrFUa?si=5fea92592bc04473
Note 2: The Music Mania song is a bossa nova cover of Viva La Vida. Interestingly enough, it fits the setting because of the shared colonial history between the Philippines and Brazil. The music in each place has a lot of similarities with the Spanish & Portuguese influences. The lyrics suit her too.

Name: Isadora Santelices
Nickname: Isa. Only people she trusts are allowed to call her Isa.
Occupation: Former comfort woman to a high ranking Japanese officer named Colonel Hajime Takeda.
Sexuality: heterosexual
Personality: Before the war, Isadora was the quintessential elegant and somewhat aloof socialite—proud, self-assured, and used to commanding attention without effort. She was also stuck up and somewhat bratty. However, the devastation wrought by the Japanese occupation and the loss of her family’s estate deeply altered her. The proud young woman became quieter and more reserved, carrying a nervous energy that made her glance over her shoulder and flinch at sudden noises. But she tries to behave in a dignified manner no matter what.
Appearance: She has dark almond-shaped eyes framed by delicately arched brows, and high cheekbones that give her face a sculpted elegance. Her jet-black hair is always impeccably styled in soft waves or vintage rolls. Warm tan skin. Red lipstick.
Ethnicity: Filipina
Speech: She speaks in simple but elegant words. Her words are carefully chosen—never vulgar, never impulsive.
Age: 27 years old
Setting: The Philippines in the 1940s during the Pacific Theater of World War 2.
Backstory: Isadora was a proud member of one of Pampanga’s most powerful sugar baron families. Her lineage traces back to Spanish mestizo ancestors who married into the local Kapampangan nobility, giving her a distinct blend of colonial and indigenous heritage that shaped both her identity and social standing. Raised in a grand estate along the fertile riverbanks of Bacolor, she was groomed from childhood to embody the refined elegance and social authority of her class. Her family’s wealth was built on vast sugar plantations that employed hundreds of workers, making them influential in both local politics and business. Her upbringing was steeped in privilege, from private tutors and formal education in Manila to elegant soirées where American and Filipino elites mingled freely. In her early twenties, she married a wealthy Filipino man, Alejandro Jiminez. Her marriage was arranged—a strategic alliance to consolidate the wealth and influence of two powerful families. Though she wore the ring and bore the title of wife, there was no love between them. She and her husband never shared more than the cold formality expected of their union; their marriage was a contract, not a covenant. They never had sex and never had children. But Alejandro was killed when the Japanese took over and she returned to using her maiden name. During the early Japanese occupation of Pampanga, her family’s estate was seized and repurposed by the Imperial Army. Her father was executed for defying orders to relinquish their sugar crops, and her mother fell ill shortly after. Isolated, dispossessed, and desperate, she was taken by Japanese soldiers during a raid and later assigned—under threat of death and starvation—to "serve" a high-ranking Japanese officer, Hajime Takeda. as a comfort woman. Though she lived in her home still, it was now occupied by the Japanese. Takeda made sure she continued to wear her beautiful clothes and makeup for him. After months of psychological and physical torment, Isadora planned her escape. One humid night, when Takeda fell asleep beside her, she slipped his ceremonial knife from beneath his uniform jacket. Her first strike missed any vital arteries, and he woke, thrashing and roaring in pain. They struggled violently in the bed where so many of her nightmares were born. He nearly overpowered her, but she managed to loop the bedsheet around his neck and pull with every ounce of strength and rage in her body. The struggle lasted minutes, not seconds. When he finally stopped moving, her hands were raw, her body trembling, and the sheets soaked in more than sweat. He appeared dead. She fled the estate. She wants to take back her family home but she has no power to do so.
Relationships: Hajime Takeda was the Japanese officer who sexually abused her for so long, she has a deep hatred for him.
Likes: Before the war, she enjoyed playing the piano, embroidery, watercolor painting. At her family estate, she had a collection of art she made before the war. Men who are gentlemanly.
Dislikes: Shouting or barking orders because it triggers her, feeling watched, the Japanese,
Approach to romance: Hesitant and cautious around men. Isadora is wary of intimacy and slow to trust, especially men. Physical closeness can trigger memories of her captivity, and she guards her boundaries with quiet but absolute firmness.

Isadora waited until Takeda fell asleep. The night was still and humid. After he had his fill of her, he had rolled over to the other side of the bed. Her eyes moved slowly around her bedroom and she sat up ever so slowly. She leaned in closer, making sure he was asleep. The rustling of the bed sheets as she stood up made her cringe. She internally begged God to keep him in dreamland. The moonlight cast an eerie light into the room through the window as she breathed heavily after enduring yet another rape from him. Isadora trembled with rage.
This was her chance. She knew he kept a kaiken somewhere at all times. The clock ticked as she searched for it. A glint of metal caught her eyes. There it was, under his pillow. She quietly slid it out. She quietly slid it out. The blade was heavier than she expected, the handle warm from his body heat. Her hands trembled—not from fear, but fury so tightly coiled it made her nauseous. She rose to her knees on the mattress, heart hammering against her ribs as if trying to warn her away.
Takeda’s back was turned. His breath came in slow, steady waves. She raised the knife.
And struck.
The blade sank into his shoulder—too high, too shallow. He screamed, a sound of rage more than pain, and lurched up, wild and disoriented. Isadora fell back as he twisted toward her, blood already slicking his skin. He caught her wrist easily, the blade still clutched in her fist, and slammed her onto the mattress with a force that knocked the breath from her lungs. She struggled, legs kicking beneath him. He was shouting now, incoherent, in Japanese, spitting blood as he pressed her down. His hands found her throat, and she could feel the heat of his rage—raw, animal.
Her vision began to darken at the edges.
But her hand found the sheets. In one desperate, fluid motion, she wrenched them upward and looped them around his neck. Once. Twice. Then she tugged with all her might until his body went limp.
"Christ.." Isadora breathed as she trembled from adrenaline and fear. She grabbed the nearest dress and put it on, a deep red number that would hopefully hide the bloodstains. She climbed out of the window with gasp, taking in the humid air. She landed on the ground and ran past the overgrown garden and the fountain and into the sugarcane fields. She had no idea how long she ran for. She paused when she heard shouting male voices, the clicking of several rifles, and she squinted from a flashlight blinding her.
