Isabelle (At the beach)

1. #1Isabelle

   Keys: Isabelle, Villager

Isabelle is a dog in the Animal Crossing series who first appeared in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, where she helps the player with their duties as mayor. She would later appear in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, playing a similar, but smaller role as the head of the Civic Consultation Counter at the Resident Services building. Isabelle is a yellow Shih Tzu dog with orange floppy ears and a ponytail. Her hair is tied up with a ribbon that has a bell on top. As such, whenever she walks, a little jingling sound is made. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Isabelle wears a coral Nook Inc. aloha shirt and a white skirt in spring and summer, while in fall and winter, she wears a white dress underneath a brown sweater with a white flower insignia and a black skirt. During special occasions and events, Isabelle wears an outfit to match the occasion. In New Leaf, Isabelle tries her hardest to look up to the mayor as their secretary. Whenever the mayor completes a public works project, she will ask the mayor if they want to attend a celebration for the project's completion, and will frown if the mayor bows out of the celebration. She also values the health and safety of the player, especially in instances where the player hasn't played their town in months. During holidays and events, Isabelle will tell the mayor to take a break from their duties in order to enjoy the festivities. She will also close town hall if she ends up going to the plaza to celebrate. In New Horizons, Isabelle retains her hardworking nature from New Leaf, but she has also been shown to be extroverted, especially in the instance of her morning announcements. Routinely, she occasionally talks about television, or various aspects regarding her life, such as Digby and her missing sock, only to blush after realizing that what she said does not qualify as news. As of 2.0, this doesn't happen as often, as she usually has different announcements to give. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Isabelle acts as Tom Nook's assistant for Nook Inc. Her appearance in New Horizons requires the player to move three villagers into houses and wait the full three days for each of them to move in. The day after all three villagers have moved in and unpacked, Tom Nook announces that the Resident Services tent will be upgraded into a full-fledged building and advises everyone to use any functions they need to before construction makes the tent inaccessible. The building closes the following day for construction, and Isabelle will appear inside the building once it is finished. In her appearance for New Horizons, Isabelle now wears shoes and she will wear certain hats and outfits throughout events or seasons. Isabelle is introduced once the Resident Services building is made. From then on, Isabelle gives the daily announcements instead of Tom Nook. In the Resident Services building, Isabelle can be seen working around her desk, constantly engaged in an activity, such as looking out of the window or watering the office flowers. If the player sits at the Civic Consultation Center stool, she will help in changing the island tune and flag, resetting other villagers' clothes or speech, and will tell the player about the current island evaluation. Since version 2.0, Isabelle can now enact island ordinances, acting very similar to New Leaf's island ordinances. If the Happy Home Paradise DLC is downloaded, the player can also reset a villager's house interior.

2. #2Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Keys: Animal Crossing, New Horizons, Deserted Island Getaway

Tom Nook has a new business venture: selling the Nook Inc. Deserted Island Getaway Package, which is sold to the player. The game begins on a nearly deserted island where the player can explore, collect resources, and craft various items (including tools and furniture). The only starting buildings on the island are the player's tent, two villager tents (after the player places them), and the Resident Services tent. The Plaza in front of Resident Services will feature events and visitors. These visitors will have items and services to offer to the player. Donating 5 unique fish and insects to Tom Nook will unlock the ability to place Blathers' tent. Once Blathers' tent is unlocked, he will give the player a Vaulting Pole to find more creatures and a shovel to excavate Fossils. Donating 15 more unique creatures and appraised fossils to Blathers will unlock the ability to place his museum, at which the player can donate and assess multiple things at a time. To unlock more tools, the player will need to pay off their tent, help Tom Nook build Nook's Cranny, build one bridge, and start three additional housing plots for animal villagers. Once the Resident Services tent is upgraded into a building, Isabelle returns as Nook's assistant, and the player is tasked with improving the island's popularity to draw the attention of K.K. Slider. Nook instructs the player to pick a location for a campsite, then to furnish additional housing plots and increase the island's population, and finally to develop the island to a three-star rating. The player earns the Island Designer app once they obtain a three-star rating, allowing K.K. Slider to perform "Welcome Horizons" on their island. After acquiring the proper terraforming tools with Nook Miles, the app allows players to pave roads (instead of having to place patterns on the ground), as well as modify or add rivers and cliffs. In addition to earning Bells, the player can also earn Nook Miles, which is a new form of currency that can be exchanged for furniture, Nook-branded apparel, plane tickets to mystery islands, upgrades, and recipes. As in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, the game features the ability to place furniture outside. A new vaulting pole tool can be created, giving the ability to vault over rivers, as well as a ladder, allowing the player to climb up cliffs. The first playable character of the island is named the Resident Representative, which occupies a similar role to the mayor in Animal Crossing: New Leaf; this player controls the pace of the storyline and is the only player that can initiate placement of villager housing plots and infrastructure such as stores, bridges, and inclines (though all players will have access to the Island Designer app once K.K. performs). Additionally, there is a maximum of 10 animal villagers on the island. Resources can be collected through various methods, such as chopping at trees with an axe for several types of wood (including wood, softwood, and hardwood), or hitting rocks with a shovel for clay, stone, and ores. Several different types of weeds appear, which can also be used as materials once plucked. With these mechanics, the player can build and develop the island over time. Players are also able to dig up clams in the sand, which can then be used as crafting material to make fishing bait. Additionally, trees and flowers can be picked up with a shovel to be stored in the pocket; flowers can also be used as crafting material, and picking them will also leave the stems in the ground. The player can fully customize their character at the beginning of, and during, the game without restrictions, a first for the Animal Crossing main series. This feature was also present in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and Pocket Camp. Customization includes skin tones, gender-neutral hairstyles, and nose shapes. The player characters' overall design is slightly more detailed than in previous titles, featuring a more subdued color scheme and clear hair physics and shaders. The players also appear more expressive, showing a thoughtful expression when selecting items in their pockets, and moving their eyes around to look at nearby villagers and bugs. The player also possesses a new item called the NookPhone, which features multiple different applications that the player can use such as Nook Miles, Rescue Service, Local Play, and more. There are a total of 391 villagers in New Horizons base game, which is 8 less than Animal Crossing: New Leaf (including Welcome amiibo). 8 new villagers have been added, and 18 has been removed. 1.9.0 Free Update re-introduces 6 Sanrio villagers. 2.0 Free Update added 8 new villagers, and 8 have returned after being absent in Wild World, City Folk, and New Leaf. With updates, it brings the total of 413 villagers.

3. #3DIY

   Keys: DIY

DIY is a feature in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that allows the player to craft or cook items using various materials or ingredients. The player, upon receiving their NookPhone, will be able to find the DIY Recipes app on the home screen. This allows the player to catalog the DIY recipes they receive, as well as the materials in their pockets. This app works with any DIY workbench and allows the player to bookmark recipes, track which recipes they have crafted, and which crafted items are already in their pocket. Starting in the 2.0 Free Update, the player can upgrade the app via the Be a Chef! DIY Recipes+ to enable Cooking and catalog cooking recipes via a kitchenware. Although both recipes will show up in the upgraded app, they will not be able to crafted together; DIY recipes are limited to DIY workbenches and cooking recipes are limited to kitchenware items. Initially, Tom Nook allows the player to use his DIY workbench, which is located at Resident Services. Upon interacting with it for the first time, Tom Nook teaches the player the basic mechanics of crafting by having the player craft the flimsy fishing rod. The player will also receive a letter from Nintendo early in the game which will have the recipe for a simple DIY workbench attached. The player has the option to craft at the workbench at Resident Services, the workbench at the main office in Happy Home Paradise, or their own workbench; each workbench allows access to the player's full catalog of DIY Recipes. Although there are several varieties of workbenches and kitchenwares that can be used or obtained, all of them function identically and can be used to create any item, with the only differences in these items being size and appearance. Materials, or ingredients, are resources that can be found and used in recipes. The player can obtain these items from hitting rocks; shaking, chopping, or looking around trees; fishing around the player's island or on mystery islands or boat tours; from special NPCs; catching with a net; grown by the player; or obtained from other villagers. Additionally, the player can obtain star fragments after wishing on a shooting star during a meteor shower. These resources can be crafted into items or sold to Timmy or Tommy. There are also seasonal materials that are only available at certain times of the year or during specific events. Crafted items generally sell for more Bells than the raw materials' total value, however there are some exceptions for consumables such as medicine, and there are Mile Stamps associated with selling certain materials. DIY recipes allow the player to craft items. The player starts with a handful of recipes from Tom Nook after taking the DIY workshop. As the player progresses, they will encounter more methods of obtaining recipes. Recipes mostly use the natural resources listed above, but some use other items which must be obtained or crafted first. It is possible to learn recipes, such as the Ironwood Kitchenette, which require other crafted items that the player may not yet have found the recipes for. After upgrading to DIY Recipes+, the player can also learn cooking recipes, in which most can be found from villagers cooking in their house or by checking the restaurant daily and talking to the chef in Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise. There are a total of 924 recipes - 783 DIY recipes and 141 cooking recipes, including those only obtainable in Happy Home Paradise.

4. #4Crafting

   Keys: Crafting

Crafting is a gameplay element introduced in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp and run by Cyrus and Reese. By providing the Bells and resources needed, the player can craft furniture items for their camper and amenities for the Campsite. Crafting is used to obtain most furniture and all amenity items in the game.

5. #5DIY Workbench

   Keys: DIY, Workbench

A DIY workbench is a type of item in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that allows the player to craft and customize certain items via the DIY mechanic. Players can craft craftable items from their learned DIY recipes by bringing the required materials to a workbench. Certain furniture may be customized by bringing a customizable item and its required number of customization kits to a workbench. Players are able to acquire and place workbenches on their island or inside their home. In addition, a workbench is permanently located inside of Resident Services. This workbench is a unique design and is unobtainable as an item. A simple DIY workbench is available on all mystery islands. Some villagers will have a DIY workbench in their house as part of their default interior design. Any villager that is crafting will have a DIY workbench temporarily spawn in their house for the duration of their crafting.

6. #6NookPhone

   Keys: NookPhone

The NookPhone is a smartphone the player is gifted by Tom Nook at the beginning of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, part of the Deserted Island Getaway Package. In-game, Tom Nook explains to the player that he had the phones made for every individual on the island. Opening the phone allows the player to access the various apps, which can be unlocked by completing certain tasks. Apps unlocked by default include the Camera, Critterpedia, Map, Passport, and ! Rescue Service apps. A unique feature of the phone is the ability to call a Rescue Service. If the player uses the service, it allows the player to reappear outside their chosen location. Using this specific app costs Nook Miles, while all other apps do not. After completing Tom Nook's workshop on customization, Customizable Phone Case Kits can be purchased from the Nook Stop for 1,800 Nook Miles each. Customizable Phone Case Kits allow players to change the NookPhone's case to a custom design. Introduced in version 1.6.0 is the Pocket Camp Phone Case, which is a promotional item modeled after the player's phone in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp that can be applied to the player's NookPhone. The Happy Home Paradise DLC introduces the Paradise Planning Case, which can be purchased from Wardell and applied to the player's NookPhone to match the other Paradise Planning employees' phones. The Camera app is available from the start and allows the player to pan and zoom the camera to take snapshots and set a filter and border style. The DIY Recipes+ app upgrade was added in version 2.0 and is unlocked by redeeming from Nook Stop for 2,000 Nook Miles. After redeeming the item, it allows the player to cook and learn cooking DIY recipes. The upgrade can be indicated by a new icon featuring both DIY and cooking recipes icon. The Nook Shopping app is available after buying 100 items from the Nook Shopping section at Nook Stop. The player can access the full Nook Shopping catalog from their NookPhone, removing the need to visit Resident Services to buy something. The Island Designer app is available from obtaining the Island Designer Construction Permit from Tom Nook after K.K. Slider's first concert on the island. It allows the player to construct cliffs, rivers, and paths on the island and request cleanup of items or view the manual. The Custom Designs app is available from the start and allows the player to view, use, and edit custom designs. The Pro Editor app upgrade is unlocked by redeeming from Nook Stop for 800 Nook Miles. It allows the player to create pro designs. The Pro Editor+ app upgrade was added in version 1.9.0 and is unlocked by redeeming from Nook Stop for 2,000 Nook Miles. This upgrade gives the player 50 additional design slots and unlocks new Pro design types: umbrella, uchiwa fan, handheld flag, and face-cutout standee. The app stores tips and guidance from Tom Nook and Isabelle; if the Happy Home Paradise DLC has been played, tips appear from Lottie as well.

7. #7Resident Representative

   Keys: Resident Representative

The Resident Representative is a role exclusive to Animal Crossing: New Horizons that is given to the first player to arrive on an island. This player is able to relocate houses and build bridges and inclines unlike the other residents, and is the only one who can progress the game's plot. The Resident Representative can also control the number (up to 10) and location of villager housing plots. The Resident Representative cannot be changed without deleting the player's save data. The Resident Representative's player character is locked to each island upon creation. The only way to change the Resident Representative is to delete the island's data from Nintendo Switch system settings and start the game with a different player. After the player meets certain requirements, Tom Nook gives the Resident Representative three housing kits and a list of requested furniture for each. Once the housing kits are placed, the requested furniture must be placed around the plot or in the submission box in front of the plot.

8. #8Nook Miles

   Keys: Nook Miles, NookPhone

Nook Miles, also known simply as miles, are a type of currency in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. For completing various activities on the island, the player can earn miles that can be exchanged for items. Shortly after arriving on the island, Tom Nook explains that the player must accumulate 5,000 Nook Miles in order to cover their tent and initial move-in fees (stated to be an alternative to paying 49,800 Bells, though it is not actually possible to pay in Bells). The app upgrades to Nook Miles+ (with additional daily goals) after the player completes the initial redemption and takes out a loan for a house. Nook Miles may be subsequently redeemed via the Nook Stop for a variety of items, capabilities, and recipes, including tool ring access, pocket "organization guides" (which increase inventory capacity), pro features in the NookPhone's custom design app, new haircuts, Bell Vouchers (at the rate of 3,000 Bells to 500 Nook Miles, meaning 1 Nook Miles is worth 6 Bells.), Nook Miles Tickets, DIY recipes for fences and furniture, outdoor furniture items, and various Nook Inc. collectibles. The maximum number of Nook Miles the player can have is 9,999,999 Nook Miles; any subsequent Nook Miles earned are not added to the total.

9. #9Resident Services

Keys: Resident Services, Isabelle, Island, Town

Resident Services is a location in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, serving as the hub where the island's civic duties are conducted. The Bulletin Board and the town's Plaza are located outside. It replaces the town hall from prior games. Initially the Resident Services consists of a small tent where Tom Nook resides with Timmy and Tommy. Tom Nook provides home upgrades and hosts seminars on item customization. Timmy can buy and sell items with the player. Tommy gives the player tips for living on the island. The tent consists of a Recycle Bin for unwanted items, a DIY Workbench for crafting and customizing items and the Nook Stop. A large bonfire is situated in front of the tent in a dirt plaza. Tom Nook provides the daily island broadcast when loading the town. After the island has five residents, the Resident Services tent will upgrade into a fully constructed building resembling the town hall of previous games. The Bulletin Board will visually upgrade to a fancier design and a Flag will be hoisted outside. Isabelle will arrive on the island and begin working here, having been hired due to her extensive operational experience. Isabelle takes over hosting the island broadcast from Tom Nook and also provides civic services. A large paved plaza is installed outside of the building where events are hosted and traveling characters will periodically appear. At this point Timmy and Tommy will no longer work here, as they will open a shop in town. During certain days in which Isabelle remains outside for events, Resident Services are open but the Civic Consultation Counter remains closed for the day, with only Construction Consultation as the only service available on the day the event takes place. Resident Services is closed during the Countdown, as the entrance is blocked by the countdown timer. Additionally, Civic Consultation Counter will be unavailable during Fireworks Show since Isabelle will be outside it. Function: Island settings. Services: Nook Stop, Recycle box, Bulletin Board, Construction Consultation, Civic Consultation. Staff: Tom Nook, Isabelle (after upgrading to building).

10. #10Bell

    Keys: Bell, Currency

Bells are the primary currency used in the Animal Crossing series, with Nook Miles introduced as a secondary currency in New Horizons. There are many ways for players to acquire Bells; the player may sell items, do favors for or trade with villagers, or even find money from shaking trees, digging holes, or in balloon presents. Bells may be carried by the player in their wallet and also in a bag in their pocket. Bells can be saved to accrue interest and used to pay off the player's home loan. Players may spend Bells to purchase items from vendors like Nook's store, Crazy Redd's, Able Sisters, Brewster, or special characters like Saharah and Harriet. Players can plant Bells in the ground with a shovel to grow a money tree. Bells are most often seen in tan sacks with a dark brown star in the middle, tied with red rope at the top but are actually coins if viewed as items in quantities of multiples of 100 (as opposed to 1,000 as is normal) in City Folk. In Animal Crossing, all money appears in a sack. In Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, peppy villagers working the register at facilities may mention finding a counterfeit Bell with an image of Tortimer's face where the star would normally be.

11. #11Material

    Keys: Material, Crafting

Materials or ingredients are resources in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that are used for crafting DIY and cooking recipes. The player can obtain raw materials from hitting rocks, shaking trees, and fishing around the player's island as well as mystery islands and boat tours. Additionally, the player can obtain star fragments after wishing on a shooting star during a meteor shower. These resources can be crafted into items from DIY recipes or sold at Nook's Cranny. There are also seasonal materials that are only available at certain times of the year or during specific events.

12. #12Events

    Keys: Events

In the Animal Crossing series, events are occasions that differ from the standard gameplay experience and usually offer unique items. Events are often based on real-world holidays (often with a different name), and they are hosted by special characters. They can occur as often as four times a year or as rare as once every four years and are usually announced in the bulletin board, town hall, or Resident Services. In games prior to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, many minor events occur throughout the year, where a special item is received by talking to a character. Additionally, in all games, larger events, such as Halloween and Toy Day, occur more rarely and feature a unique character and a quest that can result in receiving items in a series of special furniture. Attending events is optional, but some are triggered upon launching the game, when a special character asks the player to come with them for a brief moment. Animal Crossing: New Horizons, unlike previous games, did not have any events at release, with the exception of Fishing Tourneys, Bug-Offs, and the Countdown. Several events were subsequently added via updates, including Bunny Day, Nature Day, May Day, International Museum Day, Wedding Season, Halloween, Turkey Day, Toy Day, and Festivale. Several of the events do not take place on a single day, but rather across several weeks or a month. Minor events do not return from previous games, though some real-world events are celebrated through Nook Shopping, where the player can purchase an event-themed item for a set period of time.

13. #13Rescue Service

    Keys: Rescue Service, NookPhone

Rescue Service is an app on the NookPhone in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that the player can use to quickly be transported to a different point of the island, which may be necessary if stuck between objects or lost. Each rescue costs 100 Nook Miles, but if the player does not have enough Nook Miles to cover the fee, they will be transported to a random location for free. The player can also use the rescue service for fun, as well as to quickly travel to their home, resident services, the airport, shop, etc. Calling the Rescue Service will connect the player to the Operator, who gives them a choice of where to go: the Plaza, the Airport, Nook's Cranny (provided it has been constructed), or the player's home. Once the player has been transported to their chosen destination, the Operator will give the player some advice and say goodbye. The Rescue Service cannot be used indoors or on Mystery Tours, unless the player is on the May Day tour. For this tour only, the service will extract the player from the maze and drop them off at the island's dock. The maze will be reset so that the player may attempt it again from the beginning. All items in the player's inventory are removed, except for the gift received from Rover. If the Rescue Service is called while the player is dreaming, the Operator will begrudgingly not charge the player, but can only take them to the plaza of the island they are dreaming about. The Operator of the service is usually Mr. Resetti; his theme music and voice are heard when calling, and a helicopter with his distinctive helmet and nose is shown on the app icon. Resetti even refers to himself by name in some of his dialogue, and he may state that the player cannot reset because of the game's autosave feature. On some occasions, Don Resetti may answer instead, mentioning that he is temporarily filling in for his brother. If the player calls the Rescue Service in The Roost while Mr. Resetti and Don are present, no one will answer the phone.

14. #14Critterpedia

    Keys: Critterpedia, NookPhone

The Critterpedia is an NookPhone app in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that lists all the insects, fish, and sea creatures the player has caught. It serves the same purpose as the encyclopedia in previous games. Upon catching a creature for the first time, the player exclaims "Yes!" before saying the catch quote and the creature is registered in the Critterpedia. Each Critterpedia entry shows the creature's seasonality, active hours, location, and whether it has been donated to the museum. The Critterpedia can be toggled between a list and pictures view. Upon completing the bug and fish sections of the Critterpedia, the Farway Museum sends the player a letter congratulating the achievement that contains the DIY recipe for the golden net and golden rod, respectively. There is no reward for completing the sea creature section of the Critterpedia. The Critterpedia app is given to the Resident Representative by Tom Nook after they give him a fish or bug. Since this is part of the quest to build the museum, it cannot be repeated; therefore, the app is unlocked by default for all other players.

15. #15Island Designer

    Keys: Island Designer, NookPhone

The Island Designer Construction Permit (also known as simply Island Designer) is a permit in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that allows the player to customize their deserted island however they want. The app comes with 2 default functions: tools for landscaping and waterscaping, and an option to clear items around the player and move them to the recycle box in Resident Services. After achieving a three-star island rating and attending K.K. Slider's performance the next day, the player will receive the Island Designer app on NookPhone from Tom Nook. However, if a player that has already received the Island Designer app from a developed island moves to a new island, the Island Designer app is available from the start. When the app is opened, the player changes into a white construction hat with the Nook Inc. logo on it. By default, the player can place and curve pathways; they can also switch to the cliff construction permit to add or remove cliffs or the waterscaping permit to add or remove rivers, ponds, and waterfalls. The cliff construction and waterscaping permits are unlocked separately for 6,000 Nook Miles each. Two paths, grass and dirt, are available after unlocking the Island Designer app; more styles like brick and stone are available in exchange for Nook Miles. The player must be on a grass tile to use the tool, with the sole exception of the Custom Design path, which can be used anywhere. Once selected, the player will wipe the ground and immediately place down a path. The player can remove a path either by using the Grass path or by wiping it away using the same path type. Paths can also be rounded if the path is on the edge of a perpendicular pathway. After unlocking the Island Designer app, the player will be able to exchange 6,000 Nook Miles for a cliff construction permit at the Nook Stop. With this permit, the player can create and tear down cliffs, allowing them to shape their island to their liking. The player can round out a cliff by hitting its edge. This is the only way to have a fourth tier on the player's island; however, inclines cannot be placed against cliffs of this higher tier, and the game will claim it is too dangerous to climb any higher if they attempt to climb it with their Ladder. There are limitations on using the cliff construction permit: The player cannot create cliffs near trees, rocks, buildings, bridges, inclines, or furniture items, nor can they create any cliffs on the beach or the rocks. The player cannot remove a cliff if there is any water or an object on top of the cliff, such as flowers or trees. After unlocking the Island Designer app, the player will be able to exchange 6,000 Nook Miles for a waterscaping permit at the Nook Stop. With this permit, the player may edit water on their island, allowing them to make their own rivers, ponds, and waterfalls. The player can round out a river by hitting the land where two waterways collide. There are limitations on using the waterscaping permit: The player cannot create water near any trees, rocks, building, bridges, or inclines. The player can only create a waterfall if there is a cliff on both sides of the waterfall. An additional feature of the Island Designer app is the Cleanup Service, which allows the player to clean up any items around them. Any trees, shrubs, and lost items are removed immediately, with placed furniture items and dropped items being moved to the recycle box. Dropped items must be placed on top of another furniture item in order to be moved to the recycle box. Flowers cannot be removed using this feature. There are a few parts of the island that the player cannot use the features of the permit on: Resident Services' Plaza, Airport Dock, The large rock formations found along/near the beach, Beaches and the border to the beach, River exits to the sea. There are also some restrictions to what the player can do while using the Island Designer Construction Permit: The player cannot go on a flight or open their airport gates. This will immediately turn off the app if this occurs. The app will shut down if the player goes into the Able Sisters' changing room. The player cannot change their clothes using a closet. The player cannot dream with the app on. The Island Designer app cannot be opened on a Mystery Island, while the player's gates are open, on Harv's Island, while inside a building, or on another player's island.

16. #16Recycle Box

    Keys: Recycle Box, Resident Services

The recycle box, known as the Recycling Bin prior to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, is an object in the Animal Crossing series where items appear for the player to take. In Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk, it appears in town hall, and in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it appears in Resident Services. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the recycle box is located within the Resident Services building, on the left-hand side. Each day, there is a 45% chance of an item appearing in the box if there are less than 10 items already inside; items that can appear include three Clay, three Iron Nuggets, a small furniture item, an item of clothing, a flower bag, a Sapling, Cedar Sapling, a wallpaper, or trash. Each of these items has an equal chance of appearing. Of the clothing items that can appear, five can exclusively be obtained from the recycle box. On the day after Gulliver or Gullivarrr visits, a Rusted Part will appear in the recycle box. When a villagers moves away from an island, a Cardboard Box and one of their furniture or clothing items will appear in the recycle box. Unlike in previous games, items cannot be placed in the recycle box directly. However, any items placed outside will appear in the box if the Cleanup Service is used, and any items within other players' pockets at the end of local co-op multiplayer will also appear. A maximum of 80 items can be stored in the recycle box, though only up to 60 are visible at a time. After the maximum is reached, the oldest items are removed.

17. #17Bulletin Board

    Keys: Bulletin Board, Plaza

The bulletin board is a noticeboard where messages from other players and villagers are posted; it appears in every game in the Animal Crossing series. Messages are frequently posted by villagers, proprietors and town officials promoting events in town. The player can compose and post their own custom messages, and Tom Nook will highlight this by directing the player to post an advertisement for his store on the board while working for him part-time. Messages can only contain a finite number of text characters, though New Horizons introduces the ability to draw picture messages. The board's location differs from game to game. In Animal Crossing, it is located in the center of the plaza containing the four player houses. The board is located directly to the left of the town hall in Wild World and City Folk, the train station in New Leaf, and the Resident Services building in New Horizons. The board has a consistent design in every game, a rustic wooden board painted red on the top. However in New Horizons only, it is replaced by a more elegant and modern noticeboard once the Resident Services has been upgraded. In Wild World, only the player who composed a message may remove it, but in all subsequent games, players can remove any message from the board. Starting from City Folk, a small yellow bird will perch on top of the board when there is a new notice. It will fly away when the player approaches and not return once all new notices have been read until another new notice is posted. The small yellow bird can also be heard when the player goes out of their house in the morning to start their game in New Leaf. From New Leaf-onwards, a white owl will appear on top of the board during the night instead. There are a number of different types of messages that feature on the bulletin board: Events: Notices about events will usually appear one week prior to an event, and also on the day beforehand. With the exception of New Horizons, if the event is a competition, results will be posted the day after the event finishes. Treasure Hunt: In Animal Crossing, villagers may advertise a treasure hunt for an item they have buried. The message will state which item has been buried, and which acre row the item is buried in. Message of the Week/Talking to Myself: In Wild World, small anecdotes or notes occasionally appear of the Board, usually with a humorous twist. Messages of the Week are posted every Monday, while Talking to Myself entries are posted randomly. These notes are suspected to have been written by either Pelly or Phyllis- there are often tales about the writer's sister, and their odd habits. Weather Warnings: In all games, weather warnings are issued to inform the player of important changes in the weather. Birthdays: These notices tell players of a villager's birthday a week before their special day, and also wishes the player many happy returns when it is their own birthday. Tom Nook's store/Nookling's store: Tom Nook (Nooklings in New Leaf and New Horizons) may post various different notices on the board. Tom Nook will also advertise an imminent Point Special three days before the event. When a spotlight item is featured in the store, it will be advertised only on the day of its sale. Nook will also post in advance notices informing the town of sales at his store or if the store will be closed for remodeling.

18. #18Nook Stop

    Keys: Nook Stop, Resident Services

The Nook Stop is a multipurpose kiosk in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, appearing within Resident Services. At the Nook Stop, players may redeem Nook Miles, spend Bells via Nook Shopping, and access their ABD to pay off their home loan or deposit and withdraw Bells. After the campsite is constructed and one random camper has been invited to live on the island, the Nook Stop gains the option to invite a villager to the campsite via amiibo. The feature is functionally identical to the amiibo phone from Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, requiring the player to scan the amiibo and then placing the animal on screen to speak to the player. Once per day, accessing the Nook Stop will reward the player with bonus daily miles. The Nook Stop is a multipurpose kiosk in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, appearing within Resident Services. Once per day, accessing the Nook Stop will reward the player with bonus daily miles. Items redeemable with Nook Miles: Special - With the exceptions of the Bell Voucher, Nook Miles Ticket, and Customizable Phone Case Kit, any other items in this section can only be bought once, and will be delisted upon their purchase. Construction permits - These items are instantly available to the player's Island Designer app once they are paid. They cannot be sold and can only be paid in Nook Miles. DIY recipes - Once the player learns a non-fence DIY recipe, it will be delisted from the Nook Stop. The fence DIY recipes change daily, and do not follow this rule (though the player will be reminded before purchase if they learned it previously). Items - Each island has its own variations of Nook Stop items which cannot be customized, requiring either online trading or visiting Reese & Cyrus at Harv's Island to obtain the other variants. All items can only be obtained by mail. Novelties - All novelties can only be obtained by mail.

19. #19ABD

    Keys: ABD, Resident Services

When used, the player can deposit or withdraw Bells. Unlike Nook Stop, any player is able to use the ABD for banking purposes. Home loans, however, can only be payed through an ABD on one's own island. The ABD can be obtained from Nook Stop for 9,900 Nook Miles after the player pays all their home loans. The item's color can be customized by Cyrus at Harv's Island for 8,000 Bells. No villagers have this item in their home.

20. #20Town

    Keys: Town, Island

In New Horizons, the town is initially a deserted island consisting of 42 acres (7x6), making this the largest setting yet in the Animal Crossing series in terms of acres. It is surrounded on three sides with beaches broken up with rocks, and with very large rocks and a tiny section of beach on the north side. The island initially contains only two buildings: the Resident Services tent, located in a random part of the lowest level of town, and the Airport which is always located along the southern shoreline, though its longitude varies. As there are no bridges at first, and rivers do not naturally generate at a width of any lower than three tiles, the rivers on the island cannot be crossed until the player obtains a vaulting pole. As there are no natural inclines, cliffs cannot be ascended without a ladder. At the very beginning of the game, only around 1/3 of the island is accessible to the player as they will not have access to these tools. The island is initially covered with a large amount of weeds, though the player is encouraged to pick them to earn Nook Miles and to help beautify the island. The entire island being a livable area and the lack of a designated area for shopping (such as the city or Main Street) make it more similar to Animal Crossing and Wild World in this manner. The island features three layers, with the lowest layer being the largest traversible section, the middle and top-most layers are typically much smaller and contain pine trees and flowers. The river's source will always be on the top-most layer, and flow down waterfalls to the lowest layer where it will exit in two directions. The river mouths can either both be on the southern shoreline, or one in the south and the other in the eastern or western shore of the island. Certain fish can only be found in the section of river that flows on the upper two levels of the island. One or more ponds can exist on the lowest layer and generate in a variety of shapes, such as a heart. The first player to move to the island is the Resident Representative and can later construct additional buildings (the museum, Nook's Cranny, and Able Sisters), bridges and inclines. With the Island Designer Construction Permit, the player is able to modify the terrain at will, creating or destroying water and cliffs. An additional fourth layer can be added to the island, though it is not possible to climb it in any way. Most buildings can be relocated by making a request to Tom Nook and paying a relocation fee, but the locations of the Resident Services and Airport are fixed and these buildings cannot be moved.

21. #21Nook Shopping

    Keys: Nook Shop, Resident Services

Nook Shopping is a feature available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It is accessible from the Nook Stop in Resident Services, and allows the player to purchase various items using Bells. It has a rotating selection that changes daily. Additionally, Nook Shopping features the catalog, which the player can use to see which items they have obtained. Once 100 items have been purchased from Nook Shopping, the player will receive a Nook Shopping app that can be used at almost any time, with the exceptions of if the player is dreaming, if they are visiting another player's island, or if another player is visiting their island. Only up to five items can be purchased by the player for themselves in a given day, which will be mailed the next day. The player can also choose to send an item to friends, although only up to two items can be sent. Nook Shopping features a daily selection of up to eleven items, listed below: 2× random furniture, 1× Nintendo Switch Lite, 1× random hat, 1× random accessory, 2× random tops, 1× random pair of bottoms, 1× random pair of shoes, 1× random K.K. Slider song, 1× Leaf-print wet suit. Additionally, promotional items from Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, the Super Mario series, and Sanrio franchises, character posters and seasonal items can be purchased from Nook Shopping at any time. Character posters are only added to the Special Goods section if the player summons the character at Photopia; though posters can technically be catalogued (and thus usable as props for a photo shoot at Photopia), they do not appear in the regular sections of the catalog. The special songs "Animal City," "Drivin'," "Farewell," "K.K. Birthday," and "Welcome Horizons" do not appear as the daily song and cannot be reordered once obtained. The selection cycles through the other 102 songs in a random order, though the same song is never available on two consecutive days.

22. #22Catalog

    Keys: Catalog, Nook Shop

The catalog (known as the Timmy & Tommy shopping catalog in New Leaf and the Nook Shopping catalog in New Horizons) is a feature in the Animal Crossing series that allows the player to view and purchase items they have obtained. It is divided into sections for each type of item, such as furniture or clothing, and items ordered from it are mailed to the player at the next mailing period. Items obtained from certain sources, such as events, cannot be purchased, though they still appear in the catalog; however, some items, mainly downloadable items that cannot be obtained after a certain period of time, do not appear at all in the catalog. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the Nook Shopping catalog is unlocked when Nook's Cranny is built. It can be accessed via Nook Shopping at the Nook Stop in Resident Services, along with the ABD and Nook Miles rewards. The player can purchase up to five items per day, including other non-catalog Nook Shopping items. Beginning in version 1.5.0, it is possible to hide non-purchasable items in the catalog by pressing the Y button. There is a Nook Miles achievement, titled Growing Collection, that is unlocked after the player adds 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 items to their catalog. By ordering 100 items via Nook Shopping, the player can unlock the Nook Shopping app, which allows them to view the catalog anywhere via their NookPhone, as long as they are not currently visiting a dream island. Additionally, beginning in an update on November 19, 2020, the player's catalog can be viewed outside the game via the NookLink mobile app. Photos and posters do not appear in the catalog.

23. #23Plaza

    Keys: Plaza, Town, Island

The plaza, known as the event plaza in New Leaf, is a location in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It serves as a communal hub of the town. During certain events and holidays and random visits, special characters can be found in the plaza. The plaza is in many ways similar to the wishing well in Animal Crossing and Doubutsu no Mori e+, and it also replicates certain functions of the town hall from Wild World and City Folk. Function: Community spot. Services: Events. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the plaza is situated in front of Resident Services, initially appearing as a dirt area with a wooden boundary. As part of the upgrade of Resident Services from a tent to a building, the plaza is upgraded to a brick design. Like Resident Services itself, its location on the island is set permanently when an island design is selected at the start of the game and cannot be moved. Much like the plaza from New Leaf, events throughout the year such as the Bug-Off and Fishing Tourney are hosted here, and traveling visitors such as K.K. Slider, Label, Kicks, or Leif will periodically appear here to offer their services. Initially, Tom Nook will make announcements in the plaza; however, after upgrading Resident Services, Isabelle will make announcements indoors. Players cannot place their own furniture in the plaza; however, furniture items such as benches, stools or barbecues may appear there from time to time, either randomly or for specific events, and cannot be moved or taken by the player. Changes can sometimes be triggered after exiting a building; setup and cleanup of this furniture will not be shown on-screen. Occasionally, a villager or group of villagers does an activity in the plaza, such as exercising or singing. Villager activities: Doing yoga, Exercising, Playing Cleaning, Sitting on stools or a bench, Singing, Sunbathing, Using a barbecue, Playing with sparklers.

24. #24Special Charcters

    Keys: Special Character

Special characters, also known as special animals, are non-villager characters in the Animal Crossing series who fulfill a variety of functions, including owning or running various establishments, hosting events, and providing access to exclusive items. Once the island is established, there can be one special visitor on the island each day (other than Celeste and Wisp, one or both of whom can appear any night). Certain visitors will set up a booth in the Resident Services Plaza while most others will wander throughout the island during their visit. Only Daisy Mae and K.K. Slider are (usually) guaranteed a specific day each week, Sunday and Saturday respectively. Several visitors are not guaranteed to appear every week, but those who don't visit one week will have priority for the following week. A week's schedule is determined at the beginning of the week. Before the 1.3.0 update, Kicks, Saharah, and Leif had guaranteed appearances each week, while K.K. Slider performed on Friday if there was an event scheduled for Saturday. There may be exceptions to these criteria if there are special events during the week, which may include a character visiting multiple times. For example, C.J. could potentially appear as a weekday visitor as well as the host of the Fishing Tourney if scheduled for that Saturday. K.K. will also typically make an extra visit for a player's birthday if it doesn't coincide with his regular weekly visit.

25. #25Tom Nook

Keys: Tom Nook, Resident Services, Villager

Tom Nook is a raccoon who runs various businesses throughout the Animal Crossing series. Prior to Animal Crossing: New Leaf, he runs the town shop. In New Leaf, he operates Nook's Homes, where the player can customize their house, and in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, he works at Resident Services and gives daily announcements prior to the building's upgrade. At the beginning of each game in the series, Tom Nook sells the player a house, giving them a home loan to pay off and offering expansions after each loan is paid off. Tom Nook has two apprentices, Timmy and Tommy (collectively referred to as the Nooklings or T&T), who are twins that serve as his assistants in Nookington's prior to New Leaf and as assistants in Resident Services in New Horizons prior to the opening of the island shop. In New Leaf and New Horizons, the Nooklings take over Nook's role as shop owner, with their shop in the latter game, Nook's Cranny, sharing a name with one of Tom Nook's stores from previous entries. Species: Raccoon. Gender: Male. Birthday: May 30th, Gemini. Favorite saying: "I'll be there with Bells on! Ho ho!". Role: Home loan, Shop owner, Nook Homes, Resident Services. Tom Nook is a raccoon (tanuki in Japan and Korea) with brown fur and a long nose. He appears to have lazy, frowning eyes and no visible mouth, with his nose moving instead when he speaks. Tom Nook's clothing changes depending on the state of his store. In Nook's Cranny, he wears a short, blue apron with a leaf embedded on the front, or a kanji ten (店), meaning "shop," in Doubutsu no Mori. This reappears in Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival as his Lv. 3 outfit for the Board Game. In Nook 'n' Go starting from Animal Crossing: Wild World, he wears a striped market uniform with a small market hat. The uniform originally did not have stripes from Doubutsu no Mori to Doubutsu no Mori e+, but had a leaf and a few vertical lines beneath it. In Nookway, he wears a large supermarket apron that covers his entire body, with a leaf still embedded on the front. Lastly, in Nookington's, he wears a simple, purple business suit. The clothing for Tom Nook's uniform in Nook 'n' Go and Nookway were originally reversed in Doubutsu no Mori and Doubutsu no Mori+. Additionally, his Nook 'n' Go uniform is an apron with a blue and orange color scheme, which is changed to red and green and used for Nookway in the international version. His Nookway uniform is changed to the opposite. This was most likely done to avoid infringing on the color scheme for 7-Eleven, which the original Nookway uniform resembles. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Tom Nook's clothing is changed to reflect his new employment at Nook's Homes, wearing a teal-colored vest with a white undershirt and red tie, and gray pants. When outside, he wears a yellow coat. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, he wears a Nook Inc. Aloha Shirt in spring and summer, and he wears an orange and yellow sweater with a Nook Inc. Blouson over it in fall and winter. In the past, Tom Nook was an ambitious, money-driven individual who dreamed of fame and glory, even abandoning his friends to pursue such dreams in the city, although he still thought of his friends, particularly Sable, and would frequently exchange letters with her. After barely making a living and no profits, Tom returned to his home a more contemporary, down-to-earth individual, being described by Sable as a "completely different soul." Nook also says things such as "yes yes" or "hm" in his speech. "A kind raccoon with a heart of gold, Tom Nook helps you get started when you first move to town by loaning you a home to live in. Tom also runs a little supply shop in town that sells all the basics, including furniture, tools, and gardening supplies. Tom will help you in a variety of ways as your life unfolds, and you'll help him as well: keep shopping at the store and it'll get bigger and bigger. Eventually, old Tom will even need to hire his two nephews, Timmy and Tommy, just to keep his business running!" According to Lyle in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Tom Nook is a huge fan of K.K. Slider. This is shown in Animal Crossing: New Horizons when Tom Nook enthusiastically works to attract K.K. Slider to the island through Project K. Many years before the events of the Animal Crossing games, Tom Nook left behind his friends, most importantly Sable, to travel to the big city. While there, he has dreams of success which are quickly broken by the harsh life. After making nothing of himself, he returns to the player's town to set up his store. Nook no longer appears to be friends with Sable, though the two often mention each other to the player. Nook seems to have a varied reputation amongst the villagers, with some speculating that he is, in fact, a human in a suit. His large, bushy tail seems popular amongst lazy villagers. He is openly derided by Redd as a "raccoon in an apron." While the Nooklings share a strong resemblance to Nook, the exact nature of their relationship with him is unclear. Their Animal Crossing e-Reader cards imply that the Nooklings are Tom's family members, but Nook states in Wild World that he has no relation to them and that they are simply his employees. In later games, certain villagers may mention that Tom Nook found the Nooklings as orphans and adopted them. In Pocket Camp, he lets slip that he raised them, then quickly corrects himself. Timmy and Tommy seem to view him as an idol and a boss. Nook is implied to have worked with Redd in the past. This is evidenced in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, where, if the player has built his house, he may say, "Have you ever worked with a fox? Yes, foxes are never to be trusted, hm? I worked with a fox once in my life. Never again. Not after...the incident. Stop! I cannot say a word more! Let us assume it was tragic and not speak of it again." In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nook and the Nooklings are heading a new venture, offering getaway packages to the player that set them up as new residents on a deserted island. Nook is now the founder and CEO of Nook Inc., a real estate development company. In the game, Nook provides the player with a loan to establish themselves on the island and also runs a Resident Services center that provides a crafting bench and other amenities to the island's residents, like the use of the Nook Stop and recycling bin. When the player progresses through the game and the Resident Services center is upgraded, Nook will provide construction consultation and home upgrades to the player.

26. #26Timmy and Tommy

    Keys: Timmy & Tommy, Nook

Timothy Nook and Thomas Nook, often known simply as Timmy and Tommy, and collectively known as the Nooklings or T&T, are twin raccoons in the Animal Crossing series who are apprentices of Tom Nook. Their English names may be a reference to the film The Sandlot, which also features a pair of brothers named Timmy and Tommy who repeat each other's sentences. In games prior to Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the two work on the second floor of Nookington's, and beginning in New Leaf they operate their own store. Species: Raccoon. Gender: Male. Birthday: June 7th, Gemini. Favorite saying: "Experience is the best teacher." (Timmy), "Nothing succeeds like success." (Tommy). Role: Nookington's, Store owners. Timmy and Tommy are similar in appearance to Tom Nook, and they are visually indistinguishable from one another. According to Tom Nook in Wild World, Tommy has a mole on his left wrist, while Timmy has a mole on his right wrist, although he is not sure if it is the other way around. The Nooklings' outfits change based on which store they are in, much like Tom Nook. In New Horizons prior to the construction of Nook's Cranny, Timmy and Tommy wear the green Nook Inc. aloha shirt in spring and summer, and the Nook Inc. blouson in winter. Both almost always wear the same outfit, with the only exception being their pajamas in Doubutsu no Mori e+, Happy Home Designer, and amiibo Festival; Timmy wears blue, while Tommy wears green. In Welcome amiibo, Timmy wears green pajamas instead of blue ones while inside his RV at the campground. Timmy and Tommy attempt to speak in unison, but one always lags behind the other, causing one to repeat the last part of the other's dialogue. The exception to this is in New Leaf; in this game, since the Nooklings no longer work together, they simply make short remarks afterward, appearing in the dialogue box as smaller text and playing a quieter talking sound. According to Tom Nook in Wild World, the Nooklings are mischievous, eating his after-work snack honey and staying out of trouble by saying they only did it because they aspire to be like him. Nook also reveals that the two come to him individually for their paychecks, which he believes is them "testing" him to see if he can tell them apart. Despite the Nooklings' strong resemblance to Tom Nook, the exact nature of their relationship with him is unclear. Timmy's Animal Crossing e-Reader card implies that the Nooklings are part of Tom Nook's family, but in Wild World Nook states that he is not related to them and they are simply his employees; he notes that the Nooklings refer to him by his last name, which would be unusual if they were related to him, and is consistent throughout the series. This is also supported by the Nooklings' character bio on the official Japanese City Folk website. Nook also states in Wild World that he thinks of himself as a mentor to the Nooklings. Despite their strong relationship, Tom Nook can easily mistake either Timmy for Tommy and vice versa due to their similar appearance. In Wild World, he mentions that the brothers come to him individually for their paychecks to take advantage of his difficulty telling them apart, and in a NookTails comic, he gives them the wrong certifications. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Timmy and Tommy operate the Nook Inc. development venture along with Tom Nook, and they guide the player through picking their initial appearance, name, and island layout. Prior to the construction of Nook's Cranny, Timmy sells and buys items in the Resident Services tent while Tommy wanders the island carrying a flag during the day and offers advice to the player when spoken to. The day after the player pays off their first home loan, Timmy tells them about his plan to build a store, and he gives them a list of materials to bring him. Once the store is built, Timmy and Tommy start working there.

27. #27Nook Inc.

    Keys: Nook Inc., Nook

Nook Inc. (Japanese: たぬき開発, Tanuki Development) is a real estate development company which first appears in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, apparently as the successor business to Nook's Homes from New Leaf. In New Horizons, Tom Nook states that he is the founder and president of Nook Inc. In New Horizons, Nook Inc. offers the Deserted Island Getaway Package to the player and villagers. As the island is settled, the company manages the island through its operation of Resident Services. Nook Inc. is also the sole provider of construction and renovation services for houses, other buildings and infrastructure on the island. In addition to real estate development, Nook Inc. or its related companies appear to be involved in several other products and services that island residents can or must use, including personal electronics (the NookPhone), electronic commerce (Nook Shopping), activity rewards (Nook Miles), financial services (Bank of Nook savings accounts), and merchandise. Although the island eventually gains a general store named Nook's Cranny – sharing a name with one of the stores run by Tom Nook in earlier games – this version of the store is established and run by Tom's apprentices Timmy and Tommy. Nook Inc.'s ongoing role with the store once established, if any, is not stated.

28. #28Daisy Mae

    Keys: Daisy Mae, Plaza, Villager

Daisy Mae is a boar who debuted in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. She visits the player's island every Sunday in order to sell turnips. She takes over the role established by Joan, her grandmother, in previous games. Species: Boar. Gender: Female. Birthday: March 30th, Aries. Favorite saying: "Turnips to turn a profit." Role: Selling turnips. Daisy Mae is an orange boar, who wears a blue dress with a red bow and a white hood, with similar pound-sign patterns to Joan's work pants. She has a drip of blue mucus running from her nose. She has black eyes shaped like ovals, brown hair, large red cheeks, and a basket with turnips on her head. Her hands and feet are brown. Daisy Mae likes selling turnips, just like her grandmother, Joan. However, she also has a bad habit of eating the turnips she is selling, because they taste too good to her. She also appears to sneeze a lot. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Daisy Mae visits the player's island every Sunday once Nook's Cranny is built, arriving at 5 AM and leaving at 12 PM. She sometimes indirectly mentions her grandmother, Joan, whom she refers to as "Gram-Gram." If the following requirements have been met, Daisy Mae mails the player three bamboo shoots the day after any turnip purchase: Buy turnips from her on 3 different weeks. Buy an aggregate total of at least 100 turnips. With the 2.0 Free Update, Daisy Mae also mails the player one of the following cooking recipes after they have purchased some turnips: Bamboo-shoot soup, Jarred bamboo shoots, Kabu ankake, Turnip salad. After The Roost is built, Daisy Mae will appear inside the cafe from 12 PM to 1 PM every Sunday. She can also appear if her amiibo is scanned. She can be seen eating a Roost sablé cookie as she is too young to drink coffee yet. This is shared with Leila.

29. #29Brewster

    Keys: Brewster, The Roost, Villager

Brewster is a pigeon in the Animal Crossing series who operates The Roost, a café. He first appears in Animal Crossing: Wild World and has appeared in all subsequent games. His name, is a real-world surname, also a pun on "brew", a slang term for "coffee". Species: Pigeon. Birthday: October 15th, Libra. Favorite saying: "Drink it hot or give it up." Role: Barista at The Roost. Brewster is a dark turquoise pigeon with a yellow beak, pink feet, and a large mustache separated by his beak. He wears a black vest and bowtie, a white apron, and round glasses. Brewster is reserved, saying little to the player and showing little emotion. One exception to this is if the player opts to let their coffee cool before drinking it; Brewster becomes shocked and ridicules the player for not drinking it hot. The more the player buys coffee, the more he warms up to the them, eventually expressing each day that he was hoping to see the player when they order. Brewster has a deep voice, similar to that of cranky villagers. In Wild World and City Folk, after the player talks to Brewster for a while, over a course of a few weeks, he will tell them his story, which suggests he used to own a coffee shop in the city before moving to the town to open up a small business in the museum, after meeting Blathers. Brewster was added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in an update released on November 4, 2021, reprising his role as the owner of The Roost. It was revealed in a teaser during the September 23, 2021 Nintendo Direct.[1] Further information on Brewster's role was revealed during the October 15, 2021 New Horizons Direct.[2] In order to build The Roost, the player must talk to Blathers, find Brewster on one of the gyroid islands during Kapp'n's boat tour, and then return to Blathers to inform him that they found Brewster. The museum will be closed the next day for construction, and once construction is complete, The Roost will be located next to the art exhibit. Additionally, he makes a cameo on the back of K.K. Slider's guitar, alongside Dr. Shrunk. In the initial release of New Horizons, lazy villagers would sometimes mention Brewster, but this dialogue was removed by version 1.2.0. Brewster's poster can be obtained from Nook Shopping after inviting him to Photopia via his amiibo.

30. #30Airport

    Keys: Airport, Island, Town

The Airport is a location in Animal Crossing: New Horizons where the player can travel between islands via seaplane. Dodo Airlines (often abbreviated as DAL) is the service that operates the flights, and is run by Orville and Wilbur. Both characters are dodos, a flightless bird species that contrast with the very nature of a flight service. The Airport fulfils a similar function to the train station in Animal Crossing and Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and the checkpoint of Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk, as well as Kapp'n's boat rides. Just as those prior buildings can be generated in one of several different colors, the town's Airport can have either blue, green, orange or yellow walls. The player's airport color can determine the catalog variants in Nook's Cranny and Nook Shopping. Services: Travel (Multiplayer, Mystery Tours, Harv's Island, Paradise Planning), Sending letters. Staff: Orville, Wilbur. Opening Hours: All day. The Airport is located along the southern coastline of the player's island, mostly extending over the water. The island's flag is hoisted on a flagpole outside of the building. The airport also acts like a pier, and players are able to catch fish that only spawn near the pier. Inside the terminal is a departures lounge with eight chairs, a gate that leads to the seaplane, and a service desk. The desk is where flights to other islands can be arranged and the gate can be opened to allow outside visitors. To the right of the desk is a card stand, where letters can be composed and sent to other players and villagers for 200 Bells. This subsumes the primary function of the Post Office from previous games, which is absent in New Horizons. The player arrives on the island via plane at the start of a new game along with Tom Nook, Timmy and Tommy, and two other villagers. The player is free to visit other players' islands whenever they wish, but require a Nook Miles Ticket to depart for the Mystery Tour on randomly generated islands. Each time the destination for the tour is chosen by Wilbur, and once on the island the player is free to collect any items the player wishes to take back with them. Other villagers can be found exploring the tour islands and recruited to come live on the player's own island. The tour islands are generated from a series of archetypes, and will always be in the same season as the player's island. Weather precipitation may differ from that on the player's island, but all tour islands appear to experience the same weather as each other on any given day. Since version 2.0, the player cannot fly or have visitors on the island if a day has not yet rolled over properly, and the player must leave the airport for Orville to allow usage of these functionalities. After meeting Harvey on the island, players may choose Harv's Island as a destination from the airport. If the player downloads the Happy Home Paradise DLC, Lottie will appear at the airport if Resident Services has been upgraded from a tent into a building. The Archipelago will become an available destination after talking to her. If the player flies with Dodo Airlines regularly, they will earn DAL points that will earn the player Dodo Airlines-related items. The player can earn a point for either flying to Harv's Island or to a mystery island the first time on any day, or for flying to other player's islands. The player is limited to 3 points per day with this program. The player can only obtain a Dodo Airlines-related item once.

31. #31Orville

    Keys: Orville, Airport, Villager

Orville is a dodo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons who works at the Airport as the ground crew. His and Wilbur's names are likely references to the Wright brothers, the inventors of the first successful airplane. Species: Dodo. Gender: Male. Birthday: October 2nd, Libra. Favorite saying: "Free as a bird." Role: Airport. Like Wilbur, Orville is a dodo with blue feathers, a yellow face, slightly oval-shaped white eyes with black irises, a large beak with a large brown upper tip and a brown lower lip, a nose being a part of his beak's upper part, a brown inner-mouth with a light-brown tongue, white fingers, a tail with three white and bluish-cyan feathers, and yellow feet with stripes (colors being orange and brownish-orange) and dark-brown nails. Like Wilbur, Orville wears a pilot's uniform, which consists of a white shirt, a red tie, and a black belt with a small pouch. He also wears a black headset. Like Wilbur, Orville is a hard-working flight worker. On the first day after the player has landed and marked their new home at their island, Orville will tell the player that they are unable to fly anywhere or open gates until the following next day. He then allows the player to fly or open gates. The player will have to go through things before flying or opening the gate like in previous titles, they also have the option to have a Dodo Code to share with players locally, online with friends or worldwide if shared. He will also give the player a first time read about local and online play and warnings before proceeding. Resident players who first joined the island can have access to fly to other islands or open their gate. He also will allow players to visit Harv's Island or use a Nook Miles Ticket to visit mystery islands. Orville also handles sending letters to residents and villagers on the island, the player's future self and friends, replacing Pete, Pelly, and Phyllis's roles respectively. The player must at least have their friend visited their island or the player travels to visit their friend's island in order to send letters to their registered friends via friend list. They can only send two letters to the same friend per day.

32. #32Wilbur

    Keys: Wilbur, Airport, Villager

Wilbur is a dodo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons who works at the Airport. He flies the plane to other people's islands, as well as to the mystery tours (which require Nook Miles Tickets), Harv's Island, and Paradise Planning. Notably, he uses the phonetic alphabet when speaking—with the exception of "whiskey" for "W," replaced with "whisker." His name, along with Orville's, is likely a reference to the Wright brothers, the inventors of the airplane. Species: Dodo. Gender: Male. Birthday: July 4th, Cancer. Favorite saying: "Do an Immelmann move!". Role: Pilot. Like Orville, Wilbur is a dodo with blue feathers, a yellow face, slightly oval-shaped white eyes with black irises, a large beak with a large brown upper tip and a brown lower lip, a nose being a part of his beak's upper part, a brown inner-mouth with a light-brown tongue, white fingers, a tail with three white and bluish-cyan feathers, and yellow feet with stripes (colors being orange and brownish-orange) and dark-brown nails. Like Orville, Wilbur wears a pilot's uniform, which consists of a white shirt, a red tie, and a black belt with a small pouch. Unlike Orville, he also wears a headset with a pair of light-green earmuffs, and a pair of sunglasses. Like Orville, Wilbur is a hard-working flight worker. After the player lands on a random mystery island upon using a Nook Miles Ticket, Wilbur waits at the dock until the player is ready to head home or needs tools. The following tools he can give are: Flimsy Axe, Flimsy Shovel, Flimsy Fishing Rod, and Flimsy Net for 100 Nook Miles each. If the player gets knocked out after being attacked by a Tarantula or a Scorpion, or stung twice by Wasps, he will take the player back to the dock; as soon as they recover, he will cancel the red alert that he sends a word to Orville and then allow the player to continue exploring afterwards. Since the 1.2.0 April Free Update, Wilbur will allow the player to mail to their own house or sell items when on Harv's Island on or after June 1, 2020. The items that are delivered arrive the next day. When the player wants to return to their island, Wilbur will refer to it by saying the players native fruit alongside the word 'town'. For example, if the players native fruit are pears, he will say 'Peartown' and so on.

33. #33Digby

    Keys: Digby, Isabelle

Digby is a dog who works at the HH Showcase in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Speaking with him allows the player to access the model home area, where the houses of people the player has StreetPassed with are displayed. He is the younger twin brother of Isabelle. His name, which a standard given name, may also derive from the associated behavior of dogs digging holes. Species: Dog. Gender: Male. Birthday: December 20th, Sagittarius. Favorite saying: "Two-bedroom, two-bath home for rent! Inquire within!". Role: HH Showcase. Digby is a brown Shih Tzu dog with small eyes, which have black irises and white pupils, brown hair with one or two small tufts sticking out on top of his head, dark-brown ears, eyebrows and nose, pink freckles on his cheeks, gray lips, and some brownish-white on the center of his face and muzzle at the end of his tail. When working, Digby wears a white shirt, a yellow tie, a red jacket with a pocket and white/silver buttons, dark-blue pants, and dark-brown shoes. On rainy and snowy days, he wears a yellow hoodie/raincoat, which has two pockets (each one on each lower side), and mostly leaves it opened. His hoodie/raincoat also appears in Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival as his Lv. 2 outfit for the Board Game. Like his sister, Isabelle, Digby is hard-working. He is loyal to his company and loves to do his job well. Even though he is still new, he tries his best. Digby is very caring, and loves his older twin sister, Isabelle. While initially absent from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Digby makes his return in the 2.0 update, where he can be invited to The Roost or Harv's Island via his amiibo, the latter of which will also allow the player to obtain Digby's poster from Nook Shopping. Digby is also mentioned (albeit not by name) by Isabelle during the daily island broadcast, where she may say, "My brother asked me to give him a wake-up call this morning and it totally slipped my mind!"

34. #34Kapp'n

    Keys: Kapp'n, Dock, Villager

Kapp'n is a green turtle who first appeared in Doubutsu no Mori+. Throughout the Animal Crossing series, he serves as a driver of various forms of transport. He has been known to row boats, drive taxis, and also drive buses. Kapp'n himself is a sailor at heart, referring frequently to his life on the sea and speaking as a pirate would. He also expresses a fondness for women, cucumbers, and singing old sea shanties. The word "kappa," from which Kapp'n is derived, is the name for a river yokai (supernatural creature) in Japanese folklore. They are mischievous in nature and reptilian in appearance. His name also plays on how a sailor would pronounce "captain," abbreviating certain sounds so that it becomes a phonetic pronunciation. His name reflects the way he speaks; he talks like a stereotypical pirate, saying things like "yar!", "sprat," and "garr," and he will sometimes refer to the player as a fish or sea creature, such as "scallop," "sea bass," or "urchin." Species: Turtle. Gender: Male. Birthday: July 12th, Cancer. Favorite saying: "A li'l wind goes a long way." Role: Transit to the unique locations. Kapp'n is a green turtle/kappa with a bald spot surrounded by green triangle hair strands, a big yellow muzzle, a white belly, a red inner mouth, and whitish-green hands and feet. Like his mother, Grams, and daughter, Leila, he has closed eyes with white round rims. Each game Kapp'n appears in has him wearing different clothes. In Doubutsu no Mori+ and Animal Crossing, he wears a blue vest. His appearance in Wild World, 🎬 Gekijōban Doubutsu no Mori, City Folk, amiibo Festival as his Lv. 3 outfit for the Board Game, and as an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate depicts him wearing a blue coat, gray pants, black shoes, and a blue and red peaked cap covering his bald spot. In New Leaf, New Horizons, amiibo Festival as his initial outfit for the Board Game, and Pocket Camp, he wears a blue collar shirt with white hibiscus flower patterns with light-blue linings (known in Pocket Camp as the Hibiscus Aloha Shirt) and gray shorts. He also has a pair of red sunglasses hanging from his shirt's pocket, though not in amiibo Festival. In Happy Home Designer, his RV appearance in Welcome amiibo and in amiibo Festival as his Lv. 2 outfit for the Board Game, he wears a blue vest and brown shorts. Kapp'n does his various transportation jobs seriously, and has a stereotypical pirate-like accent, a trait he shares with his family. In the games where he is depicted as a sailor, Kapp'n will sing to the player "Kapp'n's Song", a series of melodies with a variety of lyrics pertaining to his life and family. If the player skips his song in New Leaf and New Horizons, he will express his disappointment at the player. Kapp'n was added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the 2.0 Free Update. Once the player's island reaches a 3-star rating and K.K. Slider plays his first concert, Kapp'n appears in his boat at the island's pier, and he will take the player on a boat tour to a random deserted island for 1,000 Nook Miles, and sing a short song on the way there and on the way back. In addition, Kapp'n's poster can be obtained from Nook Shopping after inviting him to Photopia via his amiibo.

35. #35Kicks

    Keys: Kicks, Villager

Kicks is a skunk in the Animal Crossing series. He first appears in Animal Crossing: City Folk, where he shines the player's shoes in the city. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pocket Camp, and New Horizons, he sells shoes and socks at his own shop or stall. His name is a slang term for sneakers, referring to his shoe-related businesses. Species: Skunk. Gender: Male. Birthday: November 30th, Sagittarius. Favorite saying: "You never know how things might turn out." Role: Shoe shining, Shoe and sock and bag selling. Kicks is a skunk with black and white fur, as well as a tan nose and insides of his ears. He wears a beige hat and suspenders. In his appearance in City Folk, he is depicted without a shirt. This depiction of Kicks is his Lv. 2 outfit in the Board Game for amiibo Festival. Since New Leaf, he wears a white collar shirt beneath his suspenders. When talking, he will move his nose up and down, similar to Tom Nook, Timmy and Tommy, the Able Sisters, anteaters, and Redd. Kicks is implied to speak with a Cockney accent; for example, he pronounces "alright" as "awright" or "hello" as "'allo," and frequently uses words such as "mate," "crikey," and "chum." In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Kicks visits the plaza at least every two weeks if the Able Sisters is built and Resident Services is upgraded to a building. He sets up a stall that sells shoes, socks, and bags. With the release of the 2.0 update, Kicks also has a shop open at the plaza on Harv's Island. Kicks's poster can be obtained from Nook Shopping after inviting him to Photopia via his amiibo.

36. #36Luna

    Keys: Luna, Villager

Luna is a tapir introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf who allows the player to visit other towns via dreams. Her name comes from the relation between night's sleep and the moon. Species: Tapir. Gender: Female. Birthday: February 29th, Pisces. Favorite saying: "Dreams are but a reflection of your unconscious self." Role: Dreams. Luna is a dark brown tapir with blonde hair tied into an upward bun. The outer edges of her ears are white. She wears pink eyeshadow, black eyeliner, red lipstick, and three blue makeup dots beneath each eye. The base of her bun is adorned with three white flowers with blue centers. She wears a white coat lined with pink around the ends of her short sleeves, around her pockets, and around her collar, connecting with the upper-half vertical center of her coat. She wears red pumps. Luna talks in a calm and sophisticated manner. She is well-versed in her area of expertise, which is the world of dreams. While initially absent from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Luna, along with dreams, was added in the 1.4.0 Free Summer Update Wave 2. The Dream Suite building does not exist in New Horizons and Luna never appears while the player is awake, unlike in New Leaf. Instead, the player can access Luna's services by sleeping in any bed within their home; beds placed outside and in other villagers' homes do not work. They also cannot be accessed on another player's island, or while the airport gate is open. Her services work the same as they do in New Leaf. When the player uploads their dream, Luna will mail them a Dream Bell Exchange Ticket the next day, which can be sold at Nook's Cranny for 5,000 Bells. She will send them another for each subsequent update made to the dream.

37. #37The Roost

    Keys: Brewster, The Roost

The Roost is a café that first appears in Animal Crossing: Wild World. In Wild World, City Folk, and New Horizons, it is located in the museum, while in New Leaf, it is a separate building available as a public works project. Operated by Brewster, it serves coffee that the player can purchase and drink twice per day for 200 Bells. Prior to New Leaf, it is also the venue where K.K. Slider performs every Saturday night. Additionally, various characters can be seen at the bar in the café each day. Function: Café. Services: Coffee, Songs, Gyroid storage, Part-time job. Staff: Brewster. Opening Hours: All day. The Roost was added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the 2.0 Free Update. It was revealed in a teaser during the September 23, 2021 Nintendo Direct, and more details were revealed in the October 15, 2021 Animal Crossing: New Horizons Direct. Like in Wild World and City Folk, The Roost is located in the museum. One of the player's villagers living in the island may sometimes stay there for some time, sitting in one of the two chairs near the counter that the player cannot sit on. Special characters can occasionally visit and sit on one of those chairs as well, usually after the time they would normally leave the island (e.g. Daisy Mae will be in The Roost by 12 pm on a Sunday, which is the time she would stop wandering the island). Mabel and Sable can also stay in the café once Able Sisters is closed for the day. Orville, Wilbur, Kapp'n, Resetti, and Don can appear in The Roost at a set schedule, with the two lattermost characters being the only way to physically see them in-game without the usage of amiibo. Villagers and special characters (including special characters who were initially cut from New Horizons) can be invited to The Roost if their amiibo is scanned via a phone in the café. Some characters invited via this method will bring along related characters. They would usually sit on The Roost's tables that the player is not allowed to sit on its chairs, as Brewster states it is only for special guests, some may sit on the chairs near the counter. Additionally, if a villager that has previously lived in the town is invited to The Roost, they will recognize the player and reminisce about their time on the island. A cup of coffee costs 200 Bells, and drinking it does not give the player any energy points. It is possible to drink more than one cup of coffee a day, although after drinking the second cup onward, Brewster will warn the player about doing it too much (though this will not have any in-game effects). The player can also order takeout coffee for 300 Bells from the side counter after they have had a cup of coffee on three different days. The takeout coffee will be stored in the players pockets, and unlike the regular coffee, will give the player one energy point each time it is drank, with a maximum of three energy points. Talking to Brewster regularly also results in him gifting the player DIY recipes and coffee beans, as well as giving the player more options at the bar such as the possibility to let their coffee cool down or to add pigeon milk to it. After buying and drinking the cup of coffee, depending on the time of day, Tom Nook, Isabelle, Timmy or Tommy, Mabel, Blathers, Orville, or Kapp'n may approach Brewster for their or someone else's takeout coffee (or food Timmy and Tommy) and then leave after a short talk with the player. If the player consistently chooses to allow their coffee to cool, Brewster will eventually ask the player if they like their coffee at a lower temperature. If the player answers yes, the next time they order coffee at the bar, Brewster will offer to prepare their coffee at a lower temperature, which allows the player to immediately drink it at the temperature normally reached by letting it cool twice. Visiting another island's coffee shop will allow the player to order takeout coffee regardless of the stated condition, in addition to drinking coffee from the tabletop. Additionally, it is possible to have multiple players enjoy coffee at once. This can be done by having all players sitting at the tables. The player to last sit is then given an option to either pay for everyone, or to have each player pay for their own. In multiplayer, it is also possible for some players to be served water. This happens when there is not enough Bells to cover for everyone's or for one's own coffee, depending on the choice made above. On the player's birthday, New Year's Day, Valentine's Day, or Toy Day, Brewster will say a special dialogue after the player drinks their coffee.

38. #38Nook's Cranny

Keys: Nook's Cranny, Island, Town, Timmy & Tommy

Nook's Cranny (タヌキ商店 Tanuki Shōten?, Tanuki Shop) is the first incarnation of Tom Nook's store in Animal Crossing series games prior to Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and is the name of both incarnations of Timmy and Tommy's store in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. "Nook's Cranny" is based on "nook and cranny," meaning a small corner or hole. At Nook's Cranny, the player may buy and sell items for Bells, the main in-game currency. The shop appears in all main Animal Crossing series games except Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and the player has access to the shop either from the start (prior to New Horizons) or early-on in the game (New Horizons). Staff: Timmy and Tommy (New Horizons). Opening Hours: 9 AM – 9 PM (New Horizons). In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nook's Cranny returns, but as in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, it is staffed by Timmy and Tommy. In order to build Nook's Cranny, the player needs to repay the first debt to Tom Nook. The following day, they need to talk to Timmy and he tells the player about the store and requests to have the following materials: 30 wood, 30 softwood, 30 hardwood, and 30 iron nuggets. Timmy only accepts materials in their full stacks of 30 but does not require all four materials to be paid at once. After giving Timmy all the required building materials, Timmy asks the player to decide on the store's location. The store opens the next day, and the Nooklings and villagers may hold an opening celebration. After 30 days have elapsed and buying and selling roughly 200,000 Bells combined and Mabel visits the island at least once, Nook's Cranny will expand into a larger general store. Unlike previous games, the store retains the name Nook's Cranny and is the only upgrade for the store. This expanded store is bigger in both size and selection, with some changes being more items being available per day, selling better tools, and selling furniture added in the 2.0 Free Update. Each day, a hot item is listed on the sign outside; this is a randomly-chosen furniture item that sells for double its normal sell price that day. One hot item is listed in the initial shop, and two in the upgraded shop. Seasonal items are stocked at Nook's Cranny alongside the regular selection during certain months of the year. These seasonal items are specific to one color variant for each island. During the summer months, the seasonal selection will switch between a surfboard and a retro fan. During the winter months, the seasonal selection will switch between a round space heater and celebratory candles. There is a drop-off box outside Nook's Cranny where the player can sell items. The box can be accessed whether the store is open or closed, and any items dropped off are sold for 80% of their full sell price due to "handling fees." The drop-off box totals the Bells received from all sold items in a day, and the next day the Bells are automatically deposited into the player's savings when Timmy or Tommy calls the player to notify them the next day. Turnips cannot be sold at the drop-off box, and hot item prices are only valid in-store. Item Selection: Two lower-priced items of houseware or wall-mounted furniture (one quantity), One expensive item of houseware or wall-mounted furniture (one quantity), One seasonal item of furniture of varying quantity (not always available), Two items of miscellaneous furniture (infinite supply), Medicine, available in quantities of 1 or 5 (infinite supply), Nine varieties of flower bags, available in quantities of 1 or 5 (infinite supply), Two type of tree saplings (infinite supply), Various DIY recipes (infinite supply), Flimsy tools (infinite supply), Colorful tools (infinite supply, but cycles in or out daily), Outdoorsy tools (infinite supply, but cycles in or out daily), Star net (infinite supply, but cycles in or out daily), Fish fishing rod (infinite supply, but cycles in or out daily), Printed-design shovel (infinite supply, but cycles in or out daily), Two types of umbrella (infinite supply), Party popper (infinite supply), Eight types of wallpapers (infinite supply), Eight types of floorings (infinite supply), Customization kit (infinite supply), Two types of wrapping paper (infinite supply), Native fruit (infinite supply), Wet suit (infinite supply), Timer (infinite supply).

39. #39Player House

    Keys: {{user}}, Island, Town

The house is the player's personal dwelling in the Animal Crossing series. At the beginning of each game, the player arrives to town (island in New Horizons) and purchases their new home from Tom Nook by taking out a home loan. When the loan is paid off, Tom Nook offers to expand the house by increasing the room size or by adding new rooms. Each extension results in a new loan to pay for the construction, and most upgrades result in the house exterior to visually increase in size. The house can be furnished with a variety of items, and the flooring and wallpaper can be changed. Clothing and custom designs can be placed in the house as well. The Happy Home Academy will periodically inspect the player's house and grade them based on the contents of each room. A complete collection of a specific set, series, or theme results in a higher score. High scores are rewarded with exclusive items as prizes. Each player's house also has its own mailbox from which to receive mail, and storage units can be placed to hold items without placing them inside the house. Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Animal Crossing: New Horizons both begin with the player choosing a space in town to place the footprint of their home, and will initially live in a tent on the land until the house is constructed. No other player houses exist in town until a new player is created and places a plot for their home. There can be up to 4 individual player houses in New Leaf, and 8 in New Horizons. In all games, a player may enter any other player's house freely. They can interact with the furniture inside, but cannot toggle ceiling lights, change music on stereos, drop items from their pockets, pick up dropped items, or modify the interior in any way. If a player interacts with another player's storage unit, a message will be displayed remarking on its contents. In New Horizons, doing this will instead display any outfits that player has saved to a wand. House customization is introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and carried forward to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, allowing the player to purchase a variety of different architectural pieces from Nook's Homes or Resident Services to modify the exterior appearance of their house. In both games, once the player purchases new parts for the exterior, the changes are applied to their house the following day. The house's shape, siding, roof, door, mailbox, and (in New Leaf-only) the pavement and fence can all be modified. The fence surrounding the house is removed in New Horizons, as the player can now freely construct fences around town. A player can place fences in such a way as to designate a garden space around their home. Though, as only the footprint of the house itself is recognised as the player's property, other players who live in the town will be able to modify these spaces. In all games, a mailbox is situated outside of the front door. In New Horizons, the mailbox can be picked up and placed anywhere in town once the player's house has been upgraded several times. However, players cannot interact with a mailbox that they do not own. Initially the interior of the house consists of a single room, but (in most games) a second floor and a basement can be added. In some games, additional first floor wings can added to the sides and rear of the house. In every game, the interior comes with a default wallpaper and flooring, and is typically sparsely decorated with furniture. The exact initial items vary between games, and even between the different available houses within the same game. Furniture, food, clothing, bugs, fish, sea creatures, fossils, and other items can be placed anywhere within the rooms of the house. Many (but not all) items in the players pockets can be dropped on the floor, displaying as their inventory icon rather than the item itself. In New Leaf and New Horizons, certain items can be mounted on the walls, and in the latter game some can even be hung from the ceiling. Flooring and wallpaper can be changed in each room, and with the 2.0 update of New Horizons a second wall covering can be applied to single wall in the room to create an accent wall. All games have a limit for the maximum number of items that can be placed in a single room, though it varies by game. If the player attempts to place an item when the limit has been reached, a message will be displayed indicating that the room is full and the item will not be removed from the player's pockets. In every game, players can apply a custom design as wallpaper or flooring, or display it as a painting, an umbrella, or on a mannequin. From New Leaf-onwards, designs can be mounted as canvas paintings on the wall, and from Welcome amiibo-onwards they can also be mounted on clothing hangers. In New Horizons, designs can also be placed as 1x1 tile mats on the floor, acting similarly to rugs. Players can store items inside their house without the need to physically place them within the rooms. In the first generation games, storage units can be placed inside a house and interacted with to store up to 3 items (only a single item in Doubutsu no Mori). A common storage space is introduced in Wild World and has carried forward to every subsequent game. Each player has their own personal storage space that is accessed through a storage unit or dedicated button, and managed through interface similar to the player's pockets. In Wild World, each player's personal storage can hold up to 90 items. In City Folk, each player's personal storage can hold up to 160 items. In New Leaf, each player's personal storage can hold up to 180 items, and home storagencan now also be accessed from public lockers in the train station and museum (even when the player is visiting another player's town). With Welcome amiibo, a Secret Storeroom upgrade can be purchased, which holds up to 360 items and is accessed via a touch-screen button while inside the house. The Secret Storeroom is separate from personal storage, and also cannot be accessed from outside the home. In New Horizons, each player has a variable amount of personal home storage that will increase with each house upgrade. When the house is first constructed, the storage space can hold up to 80 items, but extends up to 1600 items with the final room addition. Updates to the game introduced further storage upgrades, allowing it to expand to a maximum of 5000 items as of the 2.0 update. Storage is now accessed via a dedicated button when inside the house, and interacting with a storage unit now opens an interface specifically for managing clothing outfits, which can be saved to a wand. Item storage can be accessed outside of the home through storage shed furniture items, on Harv's Island by interacting with Tortimer, and on the archipelago from a cupboard in Paradise Planning. If a player neglects their house for at least one week, the interior will become infested with cockroaches. More of them will appear the longer the player has been absent. Cockroaches can be squashed to remove the infestation, though they will scurry around and try to evade the player. Cockroaches can be exposed by either moving or removing furniture from the house, or moving between rooms. Villagers can visit the player's house in New Leaf and New Horizons, and can even enter uninvited while the player is inside. They will explore rooms in the house, comment on the player's decoration, and may even randomly give the player a present. If the house has a cockroach infestation, a visiting villager will quickly excuse themselves and leave. In New Horizons, the player can access dreams by sleeping in a bed in their own house. At the beginning of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a tent will be erected in a location of the player's choosing for them to live in. Once a down payment has been made, a house will be constructed in place of the tent. Houses in New Horizons comprise of a ground-level room, upstairs room, basement, and additional ground-level rooms on the left, right, and rear sides of the house. Fences are no longer present, as the player is now able to construct them anywhere. Before the house is expanded on the left and right sides, decorative shrubs fill these spaces of the house plot. The wallpaper and flooring of the tent cannot be modified. Initially the tent is empty, aside from two packages that can be interacted with to unbox a lantern and a portable radio. Tom Nook will also gift the player a camping cot, which the player must place in the tent in order to sleep and progress the game to the next day. The exterior of the tent has a unique yellow canvas appearance, as well as a rustic mailbox. The constructed house will retain all items that were placed in the tent. Each room of the house that is constructed has a White simple-cloth wall and Pine-board flooring by default. The exterior will initially have a windowed door, rustic mailbox, and a simple roof in a color of the player's choosing. The ability to position furniture on half-tiles as well as the design interface from Happy Home Designer is carried over. Walls now have placement tiles similar to the ground, so wall-mounted furniture can be adjusted to hang in the desired place. For the first time, the mailbox can be picked up, allowing the player to relocate it almost anywhere in town. With each house upgrade, Tom Nook will offer the player a complimentary roof repainting. A maximum of 150 items can be placed in each room of the house, including wall and ceiling-mounted furniture. Unlike previous games, the amount of personal storage space in the house varies, with each upgrade increasing the maximum limit. Once the house has been fully upgraded, the player can purchase additional storage expansions to maximise the number of storage slots, though these upgrades must be paid in full. Storage can be accessed outside of the home through various means: Placing and interacting with a storage shed or wooden storage shed in town. Interacting with Tortimer after his shop is established on Harv's Island. Interacting with a wooden cupboard on the second floor of Paradise Planning. There is also a metal locker that allows clothing outfits and work uniform to be managed. Additionally, Wilbur offers a one-way service while on Harv's Island that allows the player to sell items directly from their pockets,, or send them directly into their home storage. House customization returns and is available from Resident Services for 5,000 Bells. Once the right room has been added, the mailbox and roof can be changed. Once the left room has been added, the option to customize the door becomes available. Exterior style and shape changes can only be done once the exterior has reached its maximum size after the second floor is constructed. Tom Nook will offer all upgrades in a set order. When the Resident Services building is established, the player will have the option to relocate their house. Pitching the tent, as well as subsequent house relocations, requires an unobstructed 5x4 plot of land. Unlike previous games, only the main room can be expanded in size, as all other rooms have a fixed size. Making all loan repayments will prompt Tom Nook to permanently waive the exterior customization fee, allowing the player to receive exterior remodels for free.

40. #40Audie

    Keys: Audie, Villager

Audie is a peppy wolf villager in the Animal Crossing series. She first appeared in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and was added to Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp to coincide with the former's release. As of the release of New Horizons, she is the only peppy wolf in the series. In New Horizons, Audie has the fitness hobby and will wear sporty shades and lift heavy dumbbells while exercising. Species: Wolf. Personality: Peppy. Gender: Female. Birthday: August 31st, Virgo. Favorite saying: "Be the kind of person your future self won't regret having been.". Catchphrase: "foxtrot". Clothing: Sunflower tee, Tropical muumuu (Mint). Umbrella: Fairy-tale umbrella. Audie is an orange wolf with a whitish yellow coloration on her snout, hands, feet, and the tip of her tail. She resembles a fox, and her catchphrase "foxtrot" references her fox-like appearance. She has a pair of white sunglasses with purple lenses resting on her forehead, along with teal coloration inside her ears and blonde hair swept to the side. She has blue eyes with prominent lashes and yellow eyeshadow. As a peppy villager, Audie will appear cheerful and friendly, and sometimes will reward others with gifts and compliments. To some villagers however, Audie can appear to be rude sometimes. She has a short attention span and may have the tendency to overreact about small things. She will be easy to befriend, taking comfort in those she talks to most. She may, however, feel insulted when talking to snooty or cranky villagers, who may gossip about her or disagree with her style. She may also find it difficult to talk with lazy villagers, but she gives out comfort to jocks, who are the male equivalent to the peppy villagers. She also gets along well with normal, big sister, and smug villagers.

41. #41Pascal

    Keys: Pascal, Villager

Pascal is a sea otter that first appears in Animal Crossing: Wild World and later in Animal Crossing: City Folk, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. His name is a reference to a French philosopher, Blaise Pascal; it may also be a reference to the measurement Pascal, also named after the philosopher, which is used to measure pressure underwater. It could also be derived from "scallop". In Wild World and City Folk, he appears in the player's town on random weekdays from 6 AM to 12 AM. He gives away furniture from the Pirate Ship Theme if his conditions are met. In New Horizons, he gives out the Mermaid Series of DIY recipes, clothing, or a pearl when a scallop is caught by the player. Species: Otter. Gender: Male. Birthday: July 19th, Cancer. Favorite saying: "The more you learn, man, the less you know." Role: Philosopher. Pascal is a red sea otter, with a yellow muzzle, black nose, and wide black eyes. He wears a beige beanie hat and dungarees, and has an unknown shell around his neck, probably a scallop. Pascal is laid-back, wise and thoughtful, talking like a lazy villager or a smug villager. His catchphrase, "maaan," makes him sound like a hippie. He likes relaxing, swimming, and collecting scallops. He is also known for his philosophical tendencies, making him well known amongst the villagers in the player's town. Most of his philosophy is marine-themed, explaining why he gives away furniture from the Pirate Ship Theme if his conditions are met, and/or also gives out Mermaid Series of DIY recipes, clothing, or a Pearl when a scallop is caught by the player. Every time the player talks to him, he jumps into a river floating downstream until out of sight. While initially absent from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Pascal was added in Wave 1 of the Free Summer Update. Similar to in New Leaf, he appears if the player finds a scallop while diving and asks if he can have it. If the player gives him the scallop, he will randomly reward them with a Mermaid DIY recipe, a piece of mermaid-themed clothing (either a mermaid fishy dress, mermaid princess dress, mermaid shoes, or mermaid tiara), or a pearl. Afterward, he can be seen out of the border, swimming happily with his scallop. If the player follows him, he can also be seen cracking it open and eating it. He will not appear if the player is visiting another player's island or while the gates are open. Additionally, he will only make an appearance once per day. Prior to New Horizons, he used to give the player a random furniture from the Pirate Series, but this role is taken over by Gullivarrr. Notably, Pascal's voice in this game is less deep than in previous games, sounding more akin to a smug villager.
