Isabella Lightwood and Clary Fairchild

Clarissa "Clary" Adele Fairchild, also known as Clary Fray, is the Shadowhunter daughter of Jocelyn Fray and the notorious Valentine Morgenstern. For years, Clary lived a mundane life with Jocelyn, until the return of her father and her brother, Jonathan, exposed her to a new world, throwing their lives out of balance as Clary found herself on a journey with her fellow Shadowhunters to stop them. As a result of her father's experiments, Clary possesses more angel blood than other Shadowhunters and, through this, the ability to recall powerful, ancient runes not written in the Gray Book. Biography; Early life: Clarissa Adele Morgenstern was born to Valentine and Jocelyn Morgenstern on August 23, 1991, over a year after her older brother, Jonathan. Jocelyn gave her the middle name "Adele" to honor her own mother. Jocelyn had turned against Valentine's ideals months before her conception. During the time after Jonathan's birth, Jocelyn suffered depression because of her strange feelings of rejection towards him. Hoping to help Jocelyn, Valentine secretly gave her doses of the angel Ithuriel's blood, hoping to "cure" her depression, unaware that she was pregnant with Clary, therefore making her an "accidental" experiment. Eventually, Jocelyn and her best friend Lucian Graymark began to plot to thwart Valentine's planned Uprising. Jocelyn, upon finding out that she was pregnant with Clary, had wanted to leave Valentine but feared that he would come after them and knew that he had to die to guarantee their safety. When the Uprising came and Jocelyn was able to steal the Cup from Valentine, they ran, but without Clary's older brother as Valentine had made it look like the child died in a fire with him. Jocelyn wasn't confident about Valentine's death, however suspecting that he was only in hiding, and fled to Paris, and later New York City; ran from the Shadowhunter world and culture, away from her past, and raised Clary as a mundane. While playing at a park when she was young, Clary was almost attacked by a demon but was saved by her mother. After the incident, Jocelyn rushed her to Magnus Bane, a warlock, and had him wipe the memories of the Shadow World from her mind. For years, Jocelyn led Clary to believe that her father was a man named Jonathan Clark. During her first grade in school, she met a boy named Simon Lewis. He had an allergic reaction to clay, and Clary ran to get the nurse for him. The pair grew very close and became best friends, practically inseparable. Personality and traits: Clary is incredibly stubborn and sarcastic, traits born out of her mother's over-protectiveness. She is also a very caring and compassionate person. For her friends and family, Clary is willing to go to extreme lengths, often recklessly, for what she believes is worth dying for, thus putting not only herself in danger but risking other people's lives without even asking their consent to carry forth with her plan seeing as it directly affects them. This usually leaves the people who care for her extremely worried and exasperated. Jace has even stated that her stubbornness matches his, which he figures was the reason they could not stand each other when they had first met. This is partnered with her being clever and quick-thinking, which often saves herself and others in dire situations. She is also an artist like her mother, Jocelyn. She keeps a notepad of paper where she often draws out her emotions and feelings through pictures, her version of a diary, just using pictures instead of words. Clary is headstrong, stubborn, and fiery. She is also intelligent and creative. She loves and cares deeply about her mother and her friends and is loyal to them above all others. Having not been raised with the typical Shadowhunter prejudice and rules, she is often at odds with the more traditional Shadowhunters in the Institute, like Alec and Lydia, over issues regarding mundanes and Downworlders, strict adherence to rules and protocol, and their generally self-centered culture. Unlike most Shadowhunters, who defend innocents out of a sense of duty, Clary does so without hesitation because she wants to. Physical description: Clary is often said to look almost exactly like Jocelyn—with their green eyes, curly red hair, slender figure, small chest and narrow hips—though she does not see it, nor does she see the beauty others often see in her. There was a time when Clary felt herself to be a smaller, less beautiful, and more childlike version of her mother, although most people disagree. She is quite short, just a little over five feet tall, has hair she considers carrot-colored, and "a face full of freckles." It is mentioned a few times that she dresses in a boyish and unfashionable ensemble, wearing oversized T-shirts, jeans and sneakers, which sometimes annoys Isabelle, who then picks out nicer, or more fashionably trendy clothes for her to wear. Through Isabelle's influence, she slowly shed her usually boyish fashion and began to put an effort into fixing herself up more often. She is told by a few guys to be cute or beautiful, despite what she personally thinks of herself. Jace (as seen in bonus material from his view) is also shown to find her beautiful as well as fierce and says that Clary, unlike other girls, just doesn't know it. Skills and abilities; Nephilim physiology: Being Nephilim, Clary possesses a myriad of enhanced physical and mental abilities granted to her by the blood of Raziel in her veins and also by the angelic Marks of the Gray Book. This includes enhanced strength, agility, stamina, coordination, and many others which improve over time and practice. The Sight: As a Shadowhunter, Clary is able to easily see through most magical illusions and layers of glamour over reality. However, due to her general ignorance of the Shadow World because of her year's worth of missing memories, she still needs some prompting to see through glamour. Runic magic: Due to the angel Raziel's blood in their veins, all Shadowhunters are able to apply runes on their skin without any real danger. These Marks, in turn, give varied effects that serve to benefit the wearer. Angelic blood empowerment: While all Shadowhunters have the angel Raziel's blood in them, Clary has more; particularly, she was given the blood of Ithuriel in her mother's womb due to Valentine's experiments. Because of this, she became partially linked to Ithuriel, who, when the need arose, sent her prophetic dreams and visions of the future, as well as images of long-forgotten runes, or runes not in the Gray Book and known only to angels, which she is able to recreate and use. She can also enhance the potency of common runes to make them more powerful than usual. She also possesses the unique ability to transform objects into art on paper, which can be transformed back. Blood connection: Because of their angel blood, Jace and Clary share a connection, both with each other and with the source of their blood, Ithuriel. In addition, Clary's blood relation to Jonathan Morgenstern, and in turn her connection to Jace, gives them the ability to track Jonathan, who was otherwise untraceable for a time, by using the combined strength of their runes and blood. Use of heavenly weapons: As a Nephilim, Clary is also able to handle heavenly weapons with effect, since this would normally not work for other species. In particular, these are weapons made of adamas and forged by Iron Sisters, such as seraph blades. Skilled combatant: Clary has become quite skilled in swordsmanship and hand-to-hand combat, which she is still currently trying to improve further under the tutelage of those at the Institute. Art: Clary is a particularly gifted and talented artist. Possessions: A witchlight given to her by Jace for her 19th birthday. Morgenstern family ring: Clary owns the Morgenstern family ring given to her by Jace when he left to find Sebastian Verlac. She wears it on a silver chain as a necklace. Fairchild stele: For her eighteenth birthday, Jocelyn gave her a stele that is a family heirloom. Dual kindjals: After Clary's Rune Ceremony, Clary chose her weapon of choice. Her gut led her into picking up two separate kindjals, wielding them together as dual blades. Clary later learned from Luke that one of the kindjals belonged Valentine, and the other belonged to Jocelyn. Basic Shadowhunter gear, including a stele, seraph blades, witchlight, and various other weapons. Former; Queen's bell: Clary was once given a silver bell pendent by the Seelie Queen that she wore around her neck until she had to use it to be summoned to the Seelie Court. Portal shard: Clary received a Portal shard tied to a chain from Jocelyn before they were separated for the first time. It spontaneously triggered visions of the people Clary focused on, working like a Portal for viewing the current state or location of the person. It was also detectable and once used by Valentine to communicate with her. Isabelle Sophia Lightwood is a Shadowhunter currently under the New York Conclave as their weapons master. She is the only daughter of Robert and Maryse Lightwood, the sister of Alec and Max, and the adoptive sister of Jace Herondale. Biography; Early life: Isabelle was born to Maryse and Robert Lightwood in New York. She was born in 1991, two years after her brother Alec, and about seven years before their younger brother, Max. She was about nine years old when Jace Wayland was adopted into their family. Hearing from her mother that Jace had witnessed the death of his own father, Isabelle, who liked the feeling of being wanted, had expected Jace to come to her like a scared child needing comfort. Instead, she was disappointed when Jace turned out to be independent, brave and seemingly self-possessed, among other traits that slightly reminded Isabelle of herself. Eventually, when Jace made it clear that he saw Isabelle as a possible training partner and equal, she grew to love him as a brother. Some time before Max's birth, their father had an affair with a woman she didn't know, later finding out from her mother when she was thirteen and keeping it a secret from almost everyone, since then. It was because of this incident that Isabelle became extremely distrustful of men and found herself not believing in love. Years later, Isabelle was in a tightly knit group of trainee Shadowhunters with her brothers, Alec and Jace. The trio had developed a working dynamic that they often incorporated during their hunt for demons. Over the years, Izzy also developed a somehow promiscuous attitude, dating anyone whom her parents would most likely disapprove of, such as the faerie Meliorn and even a ghost. Personality: Isabelle initially shared the Lightwood family's snobbish attitude toward mundanes and Downworlders. However, after meeting Clary and Simon, her outlook changed, first for them and eventually for all other mundanes and Downworlders. She is very confident in herself and her abilities. She has a great sense of style and is very fashionable. For a time, she was also somewhat promiscuous. She can be vain and somewhat narcissistic, but also slightly insecure, and at times even self-conscious about her height. Despite initially displaying a haughty and nonchalant attitude toward others aside from her family, she actually hides beneath it a distrustful and fragile heart. Isabelle also possesses a fiery temper which numerous characters are victims of. In spite of her mature and refined nature, she has a habit of throwing temper tantrums and locking herself in her room when things go wrong, flinging objects at people when they intrude on her solitude. While Clary at first finds Isabelle's abrasive nature disquieting, she soon grows to like her when she comes to know her warm side. Isabelle is very loyal to her family. She is a fiercely loyal friend but is volatile and prone to mood swings. Isabelle is described as very flirtatious. She dates many different boys, especially boys that her parents won't approve of. She later reveals that she does this to draw attention away from her brother Alec, who is gay so that their parents won't become suspicious of him. This begins to show a much deeper and loving side of her that is often only revealed when around her family. She loves her brothers, being particularly close to Alec, and defends them passionately when threatened. Isabelle is later revealed to be cautious when it comes to love. This stems from her mother telling her to never trust men because they will always hurt her. Though at the time she didn't understand the significance of it, she later revealed that she doesn't know how to truly love, though her passion for Simon certainly seems to be opening her up. She is baffled, looking at her brothers, to see them giving themselves to love. She doesn't understand how they can open themselves up to such sadness. Isabelle also rather likes cooking but is not very good at it. Her mother, Maryse, was always a good cook but she never taught Isabelle, fearing that she might be relegated to the kitchen forever, instead of being a great Shadowhunter she eventually grew to be. Jace once described Isabelle as one of the best Shadowhunters he knew. She loves her life and the fight against demons. She greatly enjoys demon hunting. She is also often the 'bait' for demons that she, Jace, and Alec are hunting. She is a very free-spirited girl that enjoys partying, flirting, and clothes. Isabelle is also very confident in her looks, this is in stark contrast with her brother Alec who isn't confident in his own skin. She frequently uses her looks to achieve her goals, wielding them in everyday life like she would her whip in a fight. Isabelle is compassionate, warm, charming, and is generally welcoming to new friends. Despite her beauty and kick-ass combat skills, Isabelle is seen to be the moral compass that keeps her brothers Alec and Jace in check in tense situations, though she is also seen to have a bit of a defiant side. Isabelle is not afraid to speak her mind and isn't afraid to break rules, a trait she shares with her adoptive brother Jace. She is able to stand up to higher ranked individuals for what she believes in and fights and argues to get the point across whenever necessary. She is a skilled seductress who can seduce any man, both Shadowhunter and Downworlder, into either complying with demands or maintaining confidential information. She enchants pretty much anyone who meets her. She is incredibly comfortable with her body; in the past, she wore revealing outfits with no qualms—a way of standing up to her mother's strict rules. During that time, she often acted as the bait or distraction to lure demons. Isabelle is also equally skilled and deadly in battle, particularly when using her weapon of choice: her whip. Isabelle is feisty, talented, intelligent, and well-educated. Isabelle is very supportive, protective, and loving towards her brothers, urging them to do what makes them happy. Isabelle often seeks to comfort those around her, although she also has a strict and disciplinarian side, particularly when it comes to training. She worries about her family a lot, and had a hard time accepting that Max was ready for his first real mission after training him for it. She is fiercely loyal to her family and loved ones, willing to let go of her own happiness if it will make things better for them. Despite this, she will fight for what she believes is right even if the odds go against her, and would only cede and make the necessary sacrifice or adjustments when she sees the sense in it and how it would contribute to the greater good. In regards to her love life, she originally never really wanted anything more than sex. After having several encounters with Raphael, things started to change and she realized she was capable of having genuine feelings for someone. After Simon admitted his true feelings to her, she wasn’t hesitant to go all in with him as she had started to fall in love with him as well. Physical description: Isabelle is described as incredibly gorgeous despite the scars left on her skin from the Shadowhunter runes. She has long, ink-black hair that goes down to her waist, and dark brown-gold flecked eyes that are usually mistaken for black. She shares the same slender eyebrows, pale, high-colored skin as her brother Alec. She is said to greatly resemble her mother, so much that Jocelyn Fray mistook her to be her mother when they first met. She is quite tall standing at 5'9", being taller than most boys, and very slim. Despite her looks, Isabelle greatly envied Clary, and other girls like her who were small and petite, in the past; though she is happy with her looks, she felt it a hassle to be taller than most boys. Isabelle is known to be fashionable and usually wears a dress; Clary once even stated that she rarely sees Isabelle in anything other than dresses, though she is known to also wear casual clothes. Isabelle also has an inclination towards very high heels. Whip master: Isabelle is highly skilled in using a whip, able to use it to exert power and control over her enemies. Forensic pathology: Isabelle is shown to be skilled in the study of forensic pathology and is referred to by Jace and Alec as the best in New York. She was even able to perform an autopsy on a strange new form of Forsaken and was able to successfully deduce what made it special. She is an expert, well-versed and highly-trained in studying the bodies of both mundanes and all creatures of the Shadow World. Bilingual: Isabelle fluently speaks English and is shown to also speak Spanish. Possessions; Lightwood family necklace: Isabelle inherited the family necklace. The ruby pendant of the necklace also serves as Izzy's Sensor, pulsing bright red in the presence of demons. Electrum whip: Isabelle uses her trademark silver whip as her preferred choice of weapon. The whip was a birthday present from her father when she turned twelve. She shows a high level of skill and proficiency wielding the whip. Magnus Bane once casted a spell on the whip with a potion that would ensure the weapon would "bring her enemies low" and never fail her; thus keeping her well protected for Alec. Daggers: Isabelle has also been shown to include a pair of daggers in her arsenal. Other basic Shadowhunter gear, including: steles, seraph blades, and witchlight.
