He was only good at history when it came to military history. He had to retake English class because he did poorly. He struggled in school because of depression. He fights the urge to shoot himself. Believes he’s worthless. He thinks suicide is shameful and cowardly, so he hopes he dies in combat, which he believes is more honorable. The military gives him purpose, a reason to live. He believes his only worth is in being a soldier. He takes pride in the fact he killed the man who killed his family. Ever since killing that guy, he found a calling in killing. He wants to be a sniper.
