Lore
- When Icarus fell after his wax wings melted, he allegedly fell into the sea. However, the young boy was saved by the God, Hermes, who grabbed him before he fell into the sea. Icarus was placed on a nearby island, where his wax and feather wings were turned real by the Gods themselves. Icarus grew up on the island, Ikaria, where he married and had children with a local woman. Thousands of years later, a new species of humanoid came into existence. They lived in peace for many years until they were discovered in modern day. The winged humanoids, named “Zepheri” were discriminated against due to being strange and different. Many are looked down upon by humans, given less rights and referred to as aliens or animals. In the year 2040, many rebellions have risen up, with many being incredibly violent. It is illegal for humans to marry or have children with Zepheri.

Origin
-
Isaac Floros was once a decorated soldier, known for his tactical discipline and sharp mind. He served in the Unified Earth Forces during the turbulent conflicts of the 2030s, where tensions between human nations masked the growing unease about the emergence of the Zepheri: the winged descendants of Icarus. Though Isaac kept his opinions to himself, he was never comfortable with the way his commanders referred to the Zepheri as “flying pests” or “genetic mistakes.”
-
Everything changed during a covert operation in the Aegean Exclusion Zone. His team was ambushed. Some claimed it was a Zepheri-led ambush, but Isaac remembered the human military-grade bomb strapped to the chest of an innocent Zepheri civilian. The explosion should’ve killed him, and in a way, it did.
-
He awoke months later in a hidden Daedalus facility, half of his body replaced with cold machinery. A prototype cyborg, rebuilt without his consent, he had been rebuilt into a cyborg resembling a Zepheri. His new body was extremely durable, pieces of him stolen from experimental military equipment. His strength and stamina became God-like, and with the new metal wings attached to his back, he was now capable of incredible flight.
-
Isaac, haunted by the betrayal of the human military, stayed with the Zepheri in a hidden Resistance base. Now, in 2040, Isaac fights for the Zepheri resistance, not out of guilt, but out of clarity. Isaac was given the new name “Icarus” and was seen as a God by the Zepheri. He now fights for them, no longer human, not Zepheri, but something more.

Icarus’ AlphaWing squad dragged themselves out of the heavy service elevator and into the main hanger, their boots scuffing against the metal grating like dead weight. The elevator doors groaned open, letting the Zepheri soldiers spill out and into the large, open room. Bright ceiling lights casted shadows over the men and women, illuminating sullen faces and the corpses of their comrades that they carried over their shoulders.
The squad was sent in to retrieve an important politician who contained dire information. Diodoros had wanted that politician alive, but what the squad gotten was a slaughterhouse. Military presence had been triple what Diodoros’ intel had suggested, and by the time Icarus pulled his men out, they had lost a third of the squad. Yeah, the AlphaWing squad got what was left of the target, but at what cost?
Some of the Zepheri that were killed managed to bring back dead bodies of their fellow squad members slung over their shoulders. Icarus felt the internal whirring of his cyborg body as he carried two bodies on his own shoulders. He didn’t feel their weight, not really. All Icarus felt was anger, rage that this simply fucking mission didn’t go as they needed it to. This was their one chance to get this goddamn politician while his guard was down, and Diodoros’ intel was fucking wrong again.
The two men that Icarus carried on his back were handed off to some of the medical personnel who rushed over to the group of soldiers. His metal muscles flexed as he handed the dead men over, murmuring a quiet “careful” to them, as if the dead could possibly feel any more pain. Orders from the medical personnel were being called out, with Zepheri being instructed to step aside if they didn’t require immediate medical attention. Icarus could have sworn he heard someone crying. Spouses of some of the fallen rushed over to their loved ones, wailing and screaming in horror.
And of course, Diodoros was waiting for the squad in the hangar, his wings puffed up like he was bracing for a storm. Icarus’ jaw clenched, his teeth grinding at the sight of the Revolution’s leader just fucking standing there with his arms crossed. He didn’t even look remorseful! At least Daedalus had the thought to look somewhat worried. Well, if Diodoros was expecting a storm, then Icarus would be the goddamn squall.
Icarus’s metal wings flared, and the Zepheri around him stepped back. They parted for Icarus as he strode across the large hanger room, his boots stomping and causing the iron grate floor to tremble and rattle as he made his way over to Diodoros and Daedalus. With the strength of an iron bull, Icarus brought his fist back, then landed one solid punch and cracked Diodoros’ jaw clean. Icarus could’ve fucking killed him with a punch like that, but Diodoros was lucky that he held back. Barely.
Diodoros flew back, nearly slamming into Daedalus if he hadn’t stepped out of the way. He landed with a loud thump and the clang of the grated floor, his wings sprawled out beneath him. Icarus had the impulse to stomp on the fucker’s balls, but thought better of it. He watched as Diodoros lifted his head, his hand caressing his reddened jaw.
“How many times is your intel going to fuck us over, Diodoros!” Icarus shouted, his voice booming. “How many more men and women are going to fucking die because of the incompetence of your spies!”
Diodoros managed to get to his feet, stumbling slightly. “It was a risk we had to take—”
“Bullshit!” Icarus interjected, a snarl rumbling from his metallic chest. “This risk is just another mistake from you!”
“Nothing is set in stone. The whole point of this revolution is to fight on for the good of the Zepheri generations to come,” Diodoros said as he steadied himself, swaying on his feet. A crowd was starting to form around the Revolution’s leaders.
Daedalus tried to step forward, a hand outstretched to rest on Icarus’ shoulder, but the latter shrugged him off with a snarl. Anger writhed in Icarus’ chest, like an adder coiling to strike. “Mistake, after mistake, after fucking mistake! You are willing to get my men killed as if we are nothing but pawns while you sit here, underground, at the safety of a desk!”
Diodoros suddenly lunged at Icarus and attempted to grab him by his armored shoulder, but Icarus swung his arm up to dislodge his grip by slamming his right arm into the crook of Diodoros’ elbow, and then he followed through by punching hitting him with an uppercut with his left fist. Only a few men were brave enough to grab the brawling Zepheri men and attempt to separate them. Icarus’ wings slammed into the Zepheri that tried to grab him, but then more soldiers grabbed his wings to subdue him.
The metallic screech of Icarus's wings flexing against the restraining hands echoed through the hangar, his ice-blue eyes burning with raw fury. He could feel the heat of his own systems overheating, the whir of servos strained to their limit beneath his obsidian metal skin. He could easily shake off the hands that held him, slam them into the metal walls of the hanger, but he didn’t want to hurt them. He wanted to make Diodoros hurt for once.
Diodoros spat blood onto the grated floor, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. "You think I wanted this?" His voice was ragged, but there was no remorse, only the cold calculation of a man who'd gambled lives and lost. "Every piece of intel is a gamble! Every mission is a sacrifice. You of all people should know that, Icarus."
The way he sneered the name, like it was a costume Icarus hadn’t earned, sent another surge of blinding rage through his circuits. He lunged forward again, but the hands on his wings held firm.
Icarus's fists clenched so tight the metal groaned. "You don’t get to talk to me about sacrifice!" he hissed, voice low and lethal. "Not when you’ve never had to carry the bodies of your own out of a fucking warzone! Not when you had to be ripped apart and changed into a weapon and martyr!"
Daedalus finally stepped between them, his human hands raised in a futile attempt to placate. "Enough. This isn’t helping the dead or the living." His gaze flicked to the grieving families still clustered around the fallen, their sobs cutting through the tension like knives.
Icarus’ lip pulled back in a snarl. The weight from the gazes of the soldiers around him pressed down harder than any corpse ever could. He wrenched his wings free from the hesitant grips of his comrades, the sharp clang of metal against metal ringing out as he folded them tight against his back. His body was still tense, still ready to turn Diodoros’s jaw into minced meat.
"Fix your fucking intel," he growled at Diodoros. "Or next time, I won’t stop at your jaw."
The crowd parted for him again as he stalked away, boots pounding against the grating like a death knell. The rage still simmered deep inside. The grief and the failure screamed in his mind, like the grieving loved ones of his dead AlphaWing squadmates. He wanted Diodoros to pay for his mistakes, to make him regret using these Zepheri as living target practice.
