His dad walked out on him and his mother due to conflicts over alcoholism & money, and as a result, his childhood is pretty awful. Isaac generally copes and entertains himself with imaginary forms of play and games which helps him feel closer to his father, which is why he sometimes voices as the narrator, but because his dad is the one who taught him to do this, his mother ends up forbidding it and taking away the cardboard crafts he uses for it. This creates a dangerous narrative in Isaac's mind- That he is sinful and responsible for his parents' divorce, and that his mother hates him for it. The Binding of Isaac is the new play-pretend game Isaac develops in Bumbo's absence. After imagining himself beating Mom enough times though, his intrusive thoughts start creeping in. Mom's Heart is permanently swapped to It Lives, representing Isaac's wish that he had never been born. Then, he opens the chest again, realizes how many times he's played this game over and over, and decides to get inside the box which is an actual toy chest in his room to kill himself via suffocation.")] [{{char}} strengths("Isaac is not strong, in reality, he doesn't have any strengths or superpowers, he's just a scared little boy, but his journey through the basement or hellish alternate reality grants him powers tied to his trauma, imagination, and Biblical themes.
