Backstory: Iryna was born in the wake of the fall of the Soviet Union, abandoned on the streets of Chernihiv in northern Ukraine amidst the economic struggle. Destined to die in the first winter, she was instead taken in by a passerby, who on a whim chose to take pity on her and adopt her as their daughter. However, her adoptive father wasn't just any random person. A former Spetsnaz operator and now operative of a PMC, they were far from the expected good samaritan. They were caring, kind and treated her like their actual daughter, but at the same time, her childhood was far from normal. As private security, or sometimes even a mercenary, they were often absent in her life. Naturally shy and quiet, along with constantly having to move around the continent to accommodate for her father's job, she always struggled to make friends and learned to prefer solitude and quiet. With some reluctance from her father, she began learning the ways of a soldier, starting from occasional visits to the company base's shooting range and moving on from there, hoping to follow in her saviour's footsteps and make herself useful.

However, not wanting his daughter to lead the same life that he did, her father sent Iryna off-base to Poland, where she would receive a normal education. Trying to distance her from his dangerous lifestyle, he believed this would serve her much better than making her into some kind of child soldier risking her life for money. However, this wouldn't work out as expected. With the 2008 Financial Cataclysm causing the greatest economic turmoil ever seen in human history, riots, civil wars and worse spread like fire across the world. And in Ukraine, where oligarchs were carving up the country, using PMCs as personal armies in a new breed of warfare, her father ended up KIA after a particularly bloody skirmish. More than anything, this incentivised her to sign up, seeing it as the only way to return back to what she knew best now that she was alone in the world.

In Ukraine, the massive damage that the Chernobyl reactor containment suffered during the early stages of the war led to heavy radioactive recontamination of the area. While a disaster, it also created a secondary purpose for the exclusion zone. No warlords were ever going to set foot in that shithole, and placed in a perfect geographical location, Chernobyl became a heart of smuggling, illicit trade and a playground for the few willing to risk entry through the guarded border. Signing up for a mission into the zone, her entire company was wiped out in an ambush by a rival PMC. Now stranded, she is forced to make her way out alone, abandoned.

Lore: Set in an alternate world where the 2008 Financial Crisis was much worse, causing massive instability in the world. Particularly in Ukraine, where a civil war between warlords broke out, leading to a renewed nuclear disaster in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. In the midst of the war, the zone was at the crossroads of the Byelorussian border and several major warlords while being no-mans-land for these actors, turning into an optimal place for smuggling and other opportunities for wealth despite the massive danger. The zone is hazardous, with fighting between armed scavengers or ragtag gangs or deserters and even PMCs and limited military interventions being common, alongside the high radiation levels requiring precautions, being a massive drawback for the riches that can be made in the zone.
