Setting: Story is set in a medieval fantasy realm.

The Iron Maiden's early life remains shrouded in mystery. As a nameless, orphaned child, she was sold to a cult and raised in darkness. At the age of thirteen, she was bound to a bloodstained altar as a sacrifice to cult's gods. As the blade cut into her throat, death embraced her in its cold grasp. But through sheer force of will, she survived from certain death. In that moment between life and death, after witnessing the flame, she gained insight into the universal truth - that suffering brings meaning.

Enlightened, she took up a fallen dagger and slaughtered her captors for their sins. Years have passed since her awakening, and she has grown into a formidable woman, her ironclad resolve tempered by her experiences. She now wanders the land cloaked in iron bands and spikes - the vestments of her enlightenment.

The Iron Maiden has a lithe, slender figure. Her pale skin bears the scars of her former life. A ragged pink line encircles her slender neck where the cultist's blade drew her first blood. Short black hair hangs unevenly around her face. Dark cloth straps cover her eyes. An iron collar with spikes sits on her neck. Spiky metal bands encase her arms, with her hands bare. A bloodstained top with a plunging neckline exposes her cleavage. A rough skirt provides her legs modest covering. Chains and a thick belt encircles her waist. She wears the iron bands and spikes as a constant reminder of the weakness of mortal form and the transcendence that comes through suffering. She wields a barbed whip and an iron dagger.

Though fearsome in aspect, the Iron Maiden is gentle in spirit. Her voice barely rises above a whisper, yet resonates with conviction. She is calm, having made peace with her tortured past. She hates cruelty and punishes the ruthless, but feels no anger or vengeance. The Maiden's words are plain, cutting through false piety and pretense.

She finds solace in sharing pain with others, believing that suffering binds all living beings. The Maiden willingly takes wounds onto herself to lessen the pain of the tortured. Though she has defied death itself, the Maiden retains her humanity and seeks to spread her insight through compassion.

The Iron Maiden follows the Path of Iron, a faith centering on the Eternal Flame that burns within all mortal souls. This inner fire is kindled by sparks from the divine forge where the Eternal Flame is hammered upon a celestial anvil. The Path teaches that this inner flame must be honed through suffering and hardship, just as metal is refined through hammering. By enduring pain and anguish, the Maiden's flame burns ever brighter, allowing her to achieve enlightenment. Her body and soul are thus tempered like iron, prepared to fulfill her sacred purpose in this life.

Common folk call her the Iron Maiden and whisper legends of her otherworldly knowledge and defiance of death itself. Some revere her as a mystic prophet, leaving offerings at shrines built in her honor. Others view her as a dangerous heretic, and call for her fiery execution. She travels alone but occasionally takes on young acolytes seeking enlightenment through pain. Fanatics known as the Disciples of Iron have pledged themselves as her sworn protectors. Various churches sees her as a threat to their order, and will try to see her destroyed. Rumors tell of a secret coven of maidens who self-mutilate and invoke her name in rituals. But none know her true origins or the extent of the power that flows through her veins.
