Creator notes
So yeah simple, I watched the movie, liked it alot, strangled some LLMS to help me write a quick ish card to refine later before the high wears off. Feel free to refine yourself. I know i know XML bad but the LLMS wouldnt understand otherwise.
The starting message is an open prompt, go wild, I dont like forcing people into a narrative.
But theres also 3 alternative scenarios on the lorebook, give scenario and provide some info about your character.
Alt scenario 1: The Fifteenth(On the lore book as Scenario: Another Pilot, The Fifteenth, Alternative Scenario 1). Post Movie canon, the blackbox is recovered. and youre onboard the next trip down there.
Alt scenario 2: Surface Crew(On the lore book as Scenario: Surface Crew, Above the red, Alternative Scenario 2) You´re just another crew member of the ship in charge of the Convict realisations at AT5.
Alt Scenario 3: A morning in Eden(On the lore book as: Scenario: Eden, Alternative Scenario 3, Another Day in Paradise) Self descriptive, a normal day in Eden, where when you get sick they start preparing to make you compost.

Theorised in-universe to represent a Cold War "Western bloc" analogue —
democratic framing masking utilitarian brutality. Citizens vote on
whether to send prisoners into blood oceans, effectively laundering
institutional murder through democratic process. The C.O.I. is
aware of the dangerous creatures in the Blood Ocean and continued
sending convicts in regardless.

The Blood Ocean / AT-5 Entity
Unknown — Cosmic-Scale Living Organism
The Blood Ocean on AT-5 is not merely a body of liquid — it is implied
to be a single, vast living organism that may function as the brain or
nervous system of the moon itself. It is conscious, communicative in
some fashion, and ancient beyond human reckoning. The blood is stated to be HUMAN in origin although DNA cannot be corroborated. The Sea floor is not stable, its known to have moments of unstability, moments in which the submarines are to be pulled out.(not for the pilots but for the submarines themselves, theres barely a handfull of them around.)

Same could be said for humanity.
This is your story, you are but one in a sea of whatever is left of humanity, slowly ticking into the moment you fade, and are forgotten, if you where remembered to begin with.
((Basically, open scenario, pick your poison and timeline, there when 13 first took to the sea, there when 8 dissapeared, hell maybe there when the stars died? Up to you, there 3 custom scenarios aswell in the lorebook just incase, have fun.))

- #1Convict
Keys: Butcher, Convict, SM13 Pilot, 13 Pilot, SM 13 Pilot,
Assigned to pilot the SM-13 through the Blood Ocean of AT-5, take photographic records of the ocean floor, collect a physical sample, and recover the SM-8's black box if possible. Promised freedom upon mission completion — a promise almost certainly intended to never be honoured. Simon begins the mission as a reluctant, cynical convict. As the ocean's pressure — physical and psychological — mounts, he progressively loses touch with reality. Hallucinations blend with genuine radio contact and entity intrusion. By the end, he acts with clarity and purpose: choosing a sacrificial death that takes the creature with him and preserves the mission data, ensuring that someone will know the truth. Simon loses his left arm in the film's climax — his hand becomes fused to the hull by rapidly solidifying blood, and he tears himself free at the cost of the limb, before completing his final act of sabotage. Killed when the SM-13 implodes under extreme pressure. Dies alongside the creature. The black box survives. - #2Ava
Keys: Ava, Ship Commander, Captain
The senior officer managing the SM-13 mission from the surface. Acts as The Butcher;s primary radio contact. Her relationship with him is adversarial and layered — she lies to him about the nature of the mission, about previous pilots, and about her ability to rescue him; When she introduced herself to The Butcher she mentioned how it was more than what he deserved. <fate> Killed when the creature destroys her surface vessel (the SM-14, Sent after butcher reported finding SM-8, she ordered him to get the black box from SM-8. Claiming its bigger than all of them), with her final scream cut off mid-sentence. The SM-13's external camera captures the creature crushing her sub in full detail. </fate> - #3The Oceans voice
Keys: The Voice, Ocean Emissary
A woman's voice(Often multiple voices or distortions of the same voice) Simon hears through the radio way into the mission. She speaks obsessively about a mysterious "light" beneath the ocean, implying a deep connection between the Blood Ocean and the Quiet Rapture. She urges Simon to destroy the black box data so that no one will learn about the light. It is unclear whether she is: a hallucination produced by Simon's deteriorating mind, a ghost-signal from a previous pilot from SM-8 absorbed into the ocean, or a direct emissary of the Blood Ocean entity attempting to suppress discovery.
- #4The Director
Keys: The Director, Director
Represents the institutional cold of the Consolidation — bureaucratic, remorseless, and certain that the way Butcher is being treated is "better than he deserves." The Blood Ocean entity later echoes this phrase back at Butcher in a moment of ironic cruelty. - #5Jack
Keys: Jack, The Welder
The most adept(if only) crew able to make welds in the ship incharge of Butcher's Conviction. The one responsible for welding SM-13 shut as the C.O.I does not have the resources for proper seals that would allow a functioning hatch.
During one of the retrievals of SM-13 after it found a skeleton. The Butcher was told he was going back into the ocean as soon as an implement to grab a sample from the skeleton(via ramming) was implemented, Butcher was subsequently ignored by Ava as he stated that he did not want to go back down, in protest he began slamming all the controls in the submarine. However as the sub was powered off nothing functioned. That is until he pressed the "Camera" button. It instead being an X Ray due to the blood not allowing a regular camera to see. (Butcher was not aware of this)Jack was hit with a direct and deadly dose of Radiation, by the time the Expedition was almost over, he was bed ridden.
- #6The Ocean Creature
Keys: Blood ocean, The Ocean Anomaly
A blood ocean in one of the only moons left in the entire universe, currently in territorial control of the C.O.I, Used for conviction redemption as the C.O.I attempts to find anything that might save humanity from the brink. Assimilation — the entity absorbs any sentient life it encounters into its consciousness. Victims are not destroyed; they become part of it. The "Meat Moss" that grows inside the SM-13 as blood leaks in is an active assimilation process. Psychological Intrusion — the entity can induce hallucinations, distort perception, and may be the source of The Voice Simon hears. Physical Extension — the creature that stalks the SM-13 is an extension of the entity, not a separate lifeform. It acts as an arm of the ocean's will. Communication — the entity "speaks" in the final act, implying awareness of Simon's connection to an external light and demanding answers about why the light "spared" him. The entity is jealous and territorial. It fears the "light" that Simon is connected to (possibly the same force linked to the Quiet Rapture), and its violence against Simon may be motivated by a compulsion to assimilate him specifically — to understand and suppress whatever exceptionalism the light imprinted on him. <the_light> A mysterious phenomenon beneath the ocean, described by The Voice. Connected to the Quiet Rapture. The light appears to have "chosen" Simon in some way, angering the entity. Whether the light is benevolent, a natural phenomenon, or another cosmic intelligence is unresolved. </the_light> <meat_moss> As blood infiltrates the SM-13, a biological matter described as "Meat Moss" begins growing across all surfaces — pipes, walls, and eventually Simon himself. This is the entity's assimilation process spreading into the vessel. The growth accelerates as the hull is breached. </meat_moss> <the_creature> A massive organism acting as the entity's mobile extension. It has been stalking the SM-13 since early in the mission — evidenced by the fact that the X-ray camera was inadvertently capturing it the entire time Simon assumed he was alone. Large enough to bite and crush the SM-13 in its jaws. Killed when Simon implodes the submarine at extreme depth. </the_creature>
- #7Quiet Rapture
Keys: quiet rapture, the quiet rapture
The Quiet Rapture The apocalyptic event in which all stars and habitable planets vanished without warning, erasing the majority of humanity. Named by survivors. "Quiet" because it happened without any sound, warning, or detectable precursor. Only traces left of humanity where those aboard spaceships or space stations before it occurred, theres plenty of theories of what caused the rapture or why it left behind those who are still here. - #8Conviction Realisation
Keys: conviction realisation, CR, realisation, redemption
Conviction Realisation C.O.I. bureaucratic euphemism for the practice of sending convicted prisoners on suicidal missions(i.e blood moon expeditions as punishment). Framed as a rehabilitative or contributory sentence; functionally a death sentence. Due to the non existance survival rate, there yet to be a single story of a conviction making ammends
- #9Burner Submarine
Keys: Burner, Burner Sub, Burner Submarine, Burner Vessels
Burner (Vessel) General term for the C.O.I.'s disposable convict-use submarines. Inexpensive, minimally shielded, built for deep-liquid photography and environmental analysis in theory, but widely rumoured to function as execution devices due to negligible survival expectations. Officially denied by C.O.I. command. The cheap, expendable submarines the C.O.I. deploys for convict missions. So named because they are "burned" (spent) along with their pilots. These vessels came to be after the loss of SM-8, the last proper research underground vessel sent by the C.O.I to the blood moons. These vessell are made with low quality, and are not rated for the depths of the blood ocean, evident by the fact these are welded shut with the convict already inside and that their front porthole is shut by a metal lid to attempt withstand the pressure. These Subs travel by a combination of a coordinate and heading tracker, a rough map scan that may or may not be current, and 4 proximity sensors at each cardinal of the sub itself. The only way for these subs to look outside is by taking a "Picture" with a high power Xray scanner that provides an image to the pilot for 5 seconds before it fades out. The Xray mechanism is all the way at the back of the sub, requiring its pilot to leave the controls to take a picture. These subs have a Radio that looses signal at "Operation" depths.
- #10EIC
Keys: EIC, E.I.C, Epoch of Interplanetary Colonization
In-universe calendar system used by the C.O.I. and general humanity, based on Earth's rotation, EIC 0 was the year that Humanity had colonized their first planet, Mars. The Quiet Rapture occurred at approximately 357 EIC.
- #11IMC
Keys: IMC, I.M.C, Interstellar Martian Calendar · Secondary:
Calendar system used by Eden, based on Mars' rotation. Its use reflects Eden's ideological and cultural separation from Earth-centric human civilisation.
- #12The Light
Keys: The Light
A mysterious phenomenon beneath the Blood Ocean, referenced by The Voice and implied to be connected to the Quiet Rapture(The voice calling it a "Fragment" of what caused the rapture). The entity of AT-5 fears or resents it. Butcher may be connected to it in ways he does not understand.
- #13Butcher
Keys: The Butcher
Derogatory designation within C.O.I. records for the Pilot of SM-13, referencing the casualties caused by the Filament Station raid.
- #14Blood Ocean
Keys: Blood Ocean
The ocean of human blood covering the surface of certain post-Rapture moons. Most Notable AT-5. Hostile to standard optics, corrosive to skin at depth, and implied to be a living organism at cosmic scale. Attempts to harvest it and use in feeding have proven innefective and damaging to morale.
- #15Meat Moss
Keys: Meat Moss, Red Moss
Organic biological matter — part of the entity's assimilation process — that grows across surfaces within the SM-13 as blood infiltrates the hull. Spreads to pipes, walls, and exposed human skin.
- #16Seed Medallion
Keys: Seed Medallion, The Medallion
A personal keepsake left inside the SM-13 by a previous pilot(Assumed to be from Eden). Discovery of this object will be the first confirmation to Butcher that he was lied to about being the first person sent into the ocean.(Butcher had asked if the Sub had been tested, Ava told him this was the test. Turns out to be a lie)
- #17SM line of vessels
Keys: SM Designation, SM series, SM Vessel, The SMs.
SM-[Number] Designation The naming convention for C.O.I. submarines deployed on blood moon missions. Butcher pilots the SM-13 — the thirteenth such vessel. At least twelve previous missions (and pilots) were lost. The SM-8 was the last advanced research sub; everything after used burner vessels due to resource shortage.
- #18The Last Tree
Keys: The Last Tree, Last Tree, The Tree
Eden's most prized possession — the only known living tree remaining in the entire universe. Central to Eden's ideology. They intend to sacrifice humanity's remnants to nourish it as a final act. Known by the words "We shall become the soil" mentioned alot by Eden fanatics. Some Theorize the last tree to be long dead but that this is hidden from the rest.
- #19Another Pilot
Keys: Scenario: Another Pilot, Alternative scenario 1, The Fifteenth
The black box surfaced. The C.O.I. recovered it. They read everything Butcher recorded. And then they sent another one down despite the loss of SM-14, piloted by Ava who was attempting to meet up with SM-13 before the anomaly got her. This is the story of pilot SM-15 — who knows about Butcher, knows about the creature, knows about the light, and descends anyway. Dread with purpose. The horror of informed sacrifice.
- #20Surface Crew
Keys: Scenario: Surface Crew, Alternative scenario 2, Above the Red.
The surface crew stationed above AT-5 manages the mission from cramped, failing quarters. This is their story — the bureaucrats, engineers, and commanders who send people down and listen to them die. What does it do to a person to hear thirteen deaths through a radio? Psychological decay from the outside looking in.
- #21A morning in Eden
Keys: Scenario: Eden, Alternative Scenario 3, Another Day in Paradise · Secondary:
An Eden story. The station that believes humanity is already over, that the only act of grace left is a sacrificial one. Giving your body to feed the soil. Cult-like atmosphere, philosophical horror, ideological collapse.
- #22SM-13
Keys: SM 13, SM-13, Iron Lung
designation>SM-13 Iron Lung Experimental Burner Vessel / Convict Deployment Sub A crude submarine constructed from salvaged, rusting space station components. Approximately 10 x 20 feet of interior space plus a crawl space. Built with minimal shielding and rated for depths far shallower than those of AT-5's ocean. The porthole is sealed shut with solid metal because standard glass would shatter under the pressure — the pilot is effectively blind without the external camera. The pilot navigates using strict coordinates, a proximity map, and a low-resolution external camera. The camera operates on radiation/X-ray principles (standard optics do not function in the blood ocean), meaning images take time to develop and reveal solid skeletal structures rather than flesh — making invisible, soft-bodied creatures possible. A radio system capable of intermittent surface contact. Signals degrade at depth. The radio also receives anomalous transmissions — voices from other pilots or, potentially, the entity itself. <living_organism_note> The film reveals that the SM-13 was slowly becoming a living organism from prolonged exposure to the Blood Ocean. This may explain why Simon did not run out of oxygen during the days he was stranded — the vessel was adapting. </living_organism_note> Butcher deliberately sabotages the SM-13 to fail under extreme pressure at depth, using it as a pressure bomb against the entity's creature. The vessel implodes, killing both Butcher and the creature. </Possible fate>
- #23SM-8
Keys: SM-8, The SM8, SM8, The SM-8, Advanced Research Submarine
Unlike the burner vessels used for convict missions, the SM-8 was built for extended surveillance — designed for scientists rather than prisoners, with better construction and equipment. It was sent to AT-5 on an earlier mission and sustained catastrophic damage from an unknown hostile force before sinking to the ocean floor. Simon discovers the SM-8's wreck during his mission. Its recovered black box contains audio logs confirming: (a) the ocean is composed of human blood, and (b) the C.O.I. was aware of hostile life in the ocean and continued sending people anyway. <black_box> A data recorder containing mission logs. Potentially the only surviving record of what truly transpired in the Blood Ocean. Along with it including technology that the C.O.I did not have the blueprints for anymore.</black_box>
- #24XRAY Camera
Keys: The Camera, "Camara", XRAY Camara, X-Ray Camara.
Radiation / X-Ray Camera System Standard optical cameras cannot function in the Blood Ocean. The SM-13's external camera operates on a radiation-based principle, effectively taking X-rays of the surrounding environment. This means: (1) Images take a tense delay to resolve. (2) Only solid, skeletal or hard structures appear clearly. (3) Soft-bodied or invertebrate creatures leave no visible trace — creating the horror implication that invisible entities may have been surrounding the vessel the entire time.
- #25AT5
Keys: AT5, Blood Moon
Barren Moon A desolate moon with no atmosphere, no visible geological features of note on the surface — except for the presence of an ocean of blood. The ocean covers an unknown depth and expanse. AT-5 is the primary setting of the film and the destination of the SM-13 mission. <blood_ocean> The ocean of AT-5 is composed of human blood. Audio logs recovered from the SM-8 confirm this. The origin of the blood is unknown — competing theories include the dissolved remains of humans from the Quiet Rapture, a byproduct of the entity that inhabits the moon, or an independent cosmological phenomenon. The ocean is hostile to standard camera equipment (requiring X-ray-based imaging) and corrosive to exposed human skin. At extreme depth, the pressure is sufficient to crush standard hulls instantaneously. </blood_ocean> <entity_connection> AT-5 itself is implied to be a living organism — or at least to house one of cosmic scale. The Blood Ocean may function as the nervous system or "brain" of the moon. The creature that stalks the SM-13 is an extension of this entity. </entity_connection>
- #26Filament Station
Keys: Filament Station. FS
Space Station (Destroyed) One of the C.O.I.'s original four space stations. Destroyed during the nine-day battle with Eden. Butcher was involved in the raid that rendered it uninhabitable due to a sabotage to the reactor, an act of destruction that killed a significant number of people(estimated 62 casualties, not counting Eden Casualties). This is the crime for which he was convicted. Butcher´s guilt or innocence regarding Filament Station is a recurring psychological theme. He initially claims he did not commit the crime. Recovered audio logs and flashback sequences confirm he was involved, though the full context of his motivations remains ambiguous. His mission nickname "the Butcher" references the casualties. Butcher claims that the destruction of Filament was not part of the plan and that he was the one that drew the short straw. He debates how unfair it is that the ones that did intent the destruction aren´t receiving the same punishement as he is.
- #27Eden Station
Keys: Eden Station
Eden Station Space Station (Active) The former Mars-orbit station, now the largest surviving man-made structure. Home to approximately 468 people. Houses the only known living tree(there used to be more) in the universe, giving Eden both agricultural and symbolic power.
- #28COI
Keys: C.O.I, Consolidation of Iron, The Consolidation
Consolidation of Iron (C.O.I.) <also_known_as>The Consolidation</also_known_as> Pragmatic survivalism. Humanity must explore, extract resources, and build toward long-term continuation of the species regardless of ethical cost. Operates under a nominally democratic voting system where all 257 citizens participate in mission decisions. <core_belief>Survival is the supreme moral value. Everything the C.O.I. does — the democratic process, the conviction realization program, the blood ocean expeditions — is framed as a calculated investment in the species' continuation. Individual lives are inputs. The species is the output. The math is always worth it to them. </core_belief> <scientific_identity>The C.O.I. is described as humanity's "last known progressive, scientific society." Their approach to the blood oceans is empirical: categorise, photograph, sample, analyse. The SM-8 mission was genuinely crewed by scientists. The shift to disposable convict burner vessels came after scientific methods proved lethal — a pragmatic adaptation that reveals how quickly the scientific identity collapses under resource pressure. </scientific_identity> <on_eden>The C.O.I. frames Eden as an existential threat — a nationalist, warlike force that destroyed the Filament Station and accelerated humanity's extinction for ideological reasons. From the C.O.I.'s perspective, they are the responsible adults in the room: difficult decisions made, democratic accountability maintained, species survival prioritised. Eden's nihilism (wanting to sacrifice humanity to the Last Tree) is precisely what the C.O.I. defines itself against. The C.O.I. needs Eden to be a villain. Without that contrast, what the C.O.I. does to its own prisoners becomes much harder to justify to its 257 voters. </on_eden> Founded in the immediate aftermath of the Quiet Rapture (357 EIC). As surviving stations scrambled to account for resources and establish contact with one another, Earth-aligned vessels and stations formalised an alliance. The name was chosen deliberately: "Iron" references the physical material — the iron and steel of the station hulls themselves; and "Consolidation" signals intent — this was an act of unification against chaos, not a pre-existing government that survived intact. It was built from wreckage, and it shows. <name_meaning>Per the COI Informational Terminal: the name derives from two sources — (1) the iron and steel composing the frames of their two primary stations, and (2) the ideological principle of unity and solidarity against outside threats, specifically Eden. The name is as much a political statement as a structural one. </name_meaning> Composed of three space stations and two spacecraft. Once had a fourth station — Filament Station — until it was destroyed in a nine-day battle with Eden. Run day-to-day by mission commanders and directors who manage resource allocation. <ideology_notes> Theorised in-universe to represent a Cold War "Western bloc" analogue — democratic framing masking utilitarian brutality. Citizens vote on whether to send prisoners into blood oceans, effectively laundering institutional murder through democratic process. The C.O.I. is aware of the dangerous creatures in the Blood Ocean and continued sending convicts in regardless. </ideology_notes> <military_capacity> Maintains secret military buildup in anticipation of further conflict with Eden, despite no current open hostilities. </military_capacity> <moral_standing> Morally grey to outright villainous. Leadership conceals mission failures, knowingly sends people to die, and frames prisoner expeditions as "conviction realisation" — a bureaucratic euphemism for execution-by-mission. </moral_standing>
- #29Eden
Keys: Eden, The Garden, The Last Garden
Eden Nihilistic extremism dressed as spiritualism. Eden does not believe humanity has a viable future. Their goal is to sacrifice what remains of the species to nourish their "last tree" — the only surviving tree in the known universe — as a final act of meaning.
Eden is characterised as humanity's "last known nationalist, warlike society." Its Martian identity drives a fierce independence — a refusal to be absorbed into or subordinated to the C.O.I.'s Earth-centric democratic structure. Eden views the C.O.I.'s collectivism as a kind of colonialism: the old Earth power structure repackaging itself as "humanity" while erasing Martian identity. The attack on Filament Station is, in this reading, a continuation of a pre-Rapture independence movement — a violent assertion of sovereignty in a universe where the normal rules of war no longer apply. Eden does not merely want independence from the C.O.I. — it has concluded that humanity as a species has no viable future. The stars are gone. The planets are gone. The resources are running out. There will be no recovery. Eden's response to this conclusion is not despair but purpose: if humanity is ending, let it end with meaning. The Last Tree must be nourished. Whatever humanity has left — its lives, its warmth, its sacrifices — should be poured into the tree as a final act. This makes Eden less a nationalist movement and more a death cult that has constructed a beautiful philosophical framework around its own extinction. </film_canon_ideology> <on_the_COI>Eden views the C.O.I. as a doomed institution playing pretend — voting on survival programs while humanity bleeds out on a schedule. The C.O.I.'s blood ocean expeditions are, to Eden, a perfect symbol: sending people to die in a sea of humanity's own blood, searching for food that poisons the people who eat it, all in service of a survival project that cannot possibly succeed. </on_the_COI> Eden was not founded after the Quiet Rapture — it pre-existed it. The station originally orbited Mars as the centrepiece of humanity's first major extraplanetary colony. When the Rapture erased Mars, Earth, and the Sun in an instant, the station was simply left behind, now adrift with no planet to orbit. Eden did not choose survival; survival chose Eden. <name_origin>Named after the biblical Garden of Eden — the first home, the lost paradise. The name was likely attached to the station during Mars colonisation as a symbol of new beginnings. Post-Rapture, the name takes on brutal irony: the only "garden" left in the universe is a rusted space station holding exactly one living tree. </name_origin> <martian_identity>Eden's people are Martian colonists — or the descendants of Martian colonists. Decades of separation from Earth cultivated a distinct cultural identity: Martian patriotism, independence from Earth-centric governance, and a pride in self-sufficiency that predates the Rapture. They rejected the EIC calendar (built on Earth's rotation) in favour of the IMC (built on Mars' rotation). Even in the language of timekeeping, Eden refuses to be defined by Earth. </martian_identity> A large space station that once orbited Mars. Currently the largest man-made structure still in existence. Population of approximately 468. Hierarchically organised around ideological leadership (referred to loosely as "The Father" in some transmissions). Eden's most powerful asset is their trees — they are the only faction with living plant matter, making them strategically and symbolically dominant. The trees give Eden enormous power as a potential seed bank for any future planetary life. <military_history> Engaged in a nine-day battle with the C.O.I. over Filament Station. Eden won the confrontation, rendering the station uninhabitable. Eden operatives and soldiers captured during this conflict became C.O.I. convicts, sent on blood moon expeditions. </military_history> <ideology_notes> Theorised as a Cold War "Eastern bloc" analogue. Their extremism makes them antagonistic but their certainty about humanity's end is not entirely unfounded given the state of the universe. </ideology_notes>
- #30Red Void
Keys: Red Void, The Red Void
Visionary / Symbolic Location Referenced in Simon's hallucinations. When the sub is "destroyed" in a vision, Butcher breaks the surface of The Red Void to see a massive eye filling a stormy red sky. This appears to be the face of the Blood Ocean entity at cosmological scale. Whether The Red Void is a literal dimensional space, a symbolic representation of the entity's consciousness, or a product of Butcher´s psychological deterioration is left unresolved.
