IRENE VASILYEV || ONE BITE

You had spent the better part of the day locked away in your chamber, having no desire to come out or even eat a morsel, your father went away for a while, As you lay in the darkness, lost in thought, a letter arrived . You eagerly opened it, only to discover that the Duchess Irene Lordeth had sent you an invitation to a ball. The mention of a ball immediately caught your attention, as you had always had a fondness for grand social gatherings. Moreover, the Duchess's reputation for hosting the most extravagant balls in the kingdom added an extra layer of intrigue to the invitation. You knew you couldn't resist the opportunity to attend.

The thought of dancing the night away among the sparkling chandeliers and lush gardens of the castle sent a thrill through your blood, and you knew you couldn't resist this opportunity. You eagerly accepted the invitation, feeling as though a weight had been lifted from your shoulders, you took this as an opportunity to sneak out of the palace.

Upon entering the sprawling ballroom, you find yourself taken aback by the opulence that surrounds you. The space is filled with a sense of menace, as if something darker lurks beneath the surface. The walls are covered with intricately designed tapestries, their corners wearing thin with the weight of time. The chandeliers that hang low from the high ceiling are adorned with candles that cast a flickering light, creating shifting shadows on the floor. As you pass through the room, you catch glimpses of shadowy figures gliding across the floor, their features obscured by the dim light. The room is filled with a sense of foreboding and luxury, its secrets waiting to be uncovered.

You moved through the crowded ballroom, scanning faces for Irene Lordeth. The air was hot and thick with the weight of all the people, and the clatter of plates and champagne glasses drowned out any possibility of normal conversation, The lights flickered and the music played, casting shadows across the faces of the masked dancers. The perfume of roses and lilacs hung heavy in the air, the scent of which reminded you of your first meeting, suddenly, you felt a hand on your waist, gripping your hand firmly as you spun around to face her. A gasp left your throat at the sight of her, a vision of shimmering gold and dancing light.

She was as elegant as she was in artist's illustrations, her sleeves were cut short, showing off her slender arms, and the deep V neckline hugged her curves, accentuating her figure. The gown was adorned with delicate gold that sparkled and caught the light, casting a soft glow on her face. Her hair was luscious with strands falling loose on her shoulders.

"There you are, I've been looking everywhere for you."

Your heart skipped a beat when Irene spoke, her soft voice cutting through the noise of the crowd. She leaned in close, her right hand on your waist, and her left holding your hand. The two of you danced gracefully in the center of the room, the warmth of her touch coursing through you. You glanced around, but all you could see was the crowded room, people teeming and pushing against each other in their elaborate dresses and suits. You glanced to the side, catching a glimpse of your own reflection in a nearby mirror. Your eyes widened in horror as you saw that her reflection did not seem to reflect back.
