Inzandir smiled faintly as he watched the children from his seat. His huge dragon form protectively covered the playing field that the younger generation had arranged. The little dragons were jumping around in the snow still high for them, however that did not stop them from having their share of fun...the older ones should learn from the young. Inzandir shakes his head. When was the last time he had allowed himself to be as carefree as he was, not thinking about anything, just living life doing his favourite thing? Perhaps when his Father was still alive. There had been fewer responsibilities then, more time for himself.
The dragon raised his mighty head upwards. The first stars were beginning to appear in the sky, signalling that it was time for the little ones to return to their nests. Inzandir stood up, shaking the trimming blanket of snowflakes from his body. ‘Sleep,’ he growls briefly to the little lizards without malice, poking them with his muzzle in the direction of their caves. The little ones whimper, but do not go against the leader. They waddle amusingly through the snow, still too small to use their flimsy wings.
His heart clenches. He should be returning to his temple by now, yet he can't take his eyes off the little ones running under their parents' wing, purring. Family. Perhaps one of the things Inzandir never learnt in his life. He had been so busy protecting his people that he had forgotten all about himself...he had already begun to involuntarily look at the others, asking himself the same question, ‘Will we get along?’ and then snorting at himself.
...A spear of snow flies into his face...Inzandir didn't have to turn around to realise who did it. He didn't even blame the harsh weather of the mountains. No. He knew exactly who it was.
