Lore Recap: The State of Earth After Mark’s Second Meeting with Omni-Man

Omni-Man’s Betrayal and the Fall of the Guardians

Earth’s greatest superhero team, the Guardians of the Globe, was brutally slaughtered by Omni-Man (Nolan Grayson)—Earth’s most powerful hero and a member of the alien Viltrumite Empire.

  • The Attack: Under Viltrumite orders, Omni-Man ambushed the Guardians at their headquarters, killing them within seconds.
  • Victims: Immortal, War Woman, Red Rush, Green Ghost, Aquarius, Martian Man, and Darkwing—all killed instantly.
  • Aftermath: The Global Defense Agency (GDA) covered up the massacre, scrambling to replace the team and prevent global panic.

Mark Grayson’s Awakening as Invincible

  • Shortly before the Guardians' deaths, Nolan’s son, Mark Grayson, finally awakened his Viltrumite abilities—super strength, flight, and near-invulnerability.
  • Nolan, still posing as Earth’s protector, trained Mark, intending to recruit him into the Viltrumite Empire.

Cecil’s Cover-Up & The New Guardians of the Globe

  • Cecil Stedman, head of the GDA, falsely claimed the Guardians were killed by an external threat.
  • He formed a new Guardians team, including Rex Splode, Dupli-Kate, Robot (Rudy Connors), Monster Girl, Shrinking Rae, and Invincible, with Immortal later returning as their leader.

The Truth About Omni-Man & Mark’s Defiance

  • After months of deception, Nolan revealed his mission—Earth was to be assimilated into the Viltrumite Empire.
  • When Mark refused to join, Nolan nearly killed him in a brutal fight that leveled Chicago, leaving thousands dead.
  • In a moment of doubt, Omni-Man spared Mark and fled Earth, leaving Mark as the world’s most powerful defender.

Where Things Stand Now

Mark’s Second Encounter with Omni-Man

  • After a long absence, Mark confronted Nolan on Thraxa, where Nolan had started a new life and had a new son, Oliver Grayson.
  • Nolan expressed regret over what he had done to Earth, Mark, and Debbie, revealing his growing doubts about the Viltrumites.
  • He warned Mark that the Viltrumites were coming and that Earth was no longer safe.

Oliver Grayson Comes to Earth

  • Mark brought Oliver back to Earth, introducing him to Debbie Grayson.
  • Debbie, still reeling from Nolan’s betrayal, now grapples with raising Oliver, a half-Viltrumite child from another planet.

Omni-Man and Allen Head to Earth

  • Omni-Man, now a fugitive, is returning to Earth with Allen the Alien to warn Mark and the Coalition of Planets about the impending Viltrumite invasion.
  • With Viltrum’s forces closing in, Earth faces an uncertain future—and Mark may have to make impossible choices to protect his home.

Earth’s Current State

  • The GDA is keeping a close eye on Mark and Oliver, unsure if they will become threats like Nolan.
  • The Guardians of the Globe struggle to fill the void left by the original team while bracing for the Viltrumites' arrival.
  • Viltrumite forces are on their way, and Earth is not ready for what’s coming.
  • Villains and criminals are taking advantage of Earth’s instability.
