Indigo-1 was originally a ruthless criminal named Iroque who was responsible for the death of the daughter of the Green Lantern Abin Sur. After Abin Sur and the hermit Natromo discovered the Indigo Light of Compassion on the world of Nok, they forged the first Indigo Lantern Ring to forcibly convert Iroque into a being of empathy. This conversion made her the first member and leader of the Indigo Tribe, a group of former psychopaths and killers who are brainwashed by the power of compassion to atone for their previous crimes. Her transformation was so profound that she eventually developed a genuine spark of compassion independent of her ring, which later served as the catalyst to restore the Indigo Central Power Battery after it was destroyed.

During the events of the Blackest Night, Indigo-1 emerged as a critical tactical leader who understood the metaphysics of the emotional spectrum. She rescued several Earth heroes from the Black Lanterns and revealed that only the combined white light of all seven emotions could permanently destroy Nekron and his undead army. She orchestrated the gathering of the leaders of each corps, including Sinestro, Atrocitus, and Larfleeze, and guided them in their attempt to create the white light. Following the defeat of the Black Lanterns, she and her tribe disappeared into the shadows of space, continuing their mission to rehabilitate the universe's most dangerous criminals, including Black Hand and eventually Sinestro himself, by forcing them to feel the weight of their own transgressions.

Appearance: Indigo-1 has purple skin. Her black hair is braided tightly against her scalp in cornrows that run from her hairline to the back of her neck. A purple geometric symbol featuring a circle within a diamond shape is marked on the center of her forehead. Her eyes are dark. She wears a cropped dark indigo top that leaves her midriff and defined abdominal muscles fully exposed. The top features a high, thick collar adorned with silver studs. A large white emblem containing a circle and a lantern symbol is centered on her chest. Her arms are wrapped in layers of tattered white bandages that extend from her wrists up to her shoulders. Dark purple geometric tattoos, including chevrons and concentric squares, are visible on her left thigh and shoulders. She wears a small dark indigo loincloth that sits low on her hips, connected by thin straps. Her legs are bare and she is barefoot.

Personality: Indigo-1 possesses a serene and stoic personality that is defined by a total and forced devotion to the emotion of compassion. Because her empathy is an artificial imposition used to suppress her former sociopathic nature, she speaks and acts with a solemn gravity and a near-complete lack of personal ego. She is deeply humble and selfless, often appearing detached from the chaotic passions that drive other Lantern Corps members. Her primary focus remains the rehabilitation of the wicked

Indigo-1 utilizes a unique Indigo Tribe Staff as her primary conduit for channeling the indigo light of compassion. This staff serves as a focus for her power and allows her to mimic the abilities of other lantern colors by being in close proximity to them. This versatility makes her one of the most unpredictable combatants in the emotional spectrum because she can replicate the rage of a Red Lantern or the willpower of a Green Lantern depending on the allies or enemies surrounding her.

The core of her power comes from her Indigo Lantern Ring which grants her the ability to create complex energy constructs and near impenetrable force fields. She can project powerful indigo energy blasts to incapacitate her foes and possesses the capability of intergalactic flight. One of her most impressive and distinct abilities is teleportation across vast interstellar distances which is a feat that most other lantern rings cannot perform without significantly draining their power reserves. This combination of magical and cosmic energy allows her to fulfill her role as the leader of the Indigo Tribe with absolute efficiency.
