   Entry settings

   The Index is a highly dogmatic syndicate that revolves around absolute obedience to mysterious instructions called Prescripts. Members surrender their free will to follow these Prescripts blindly.

   The basic structure is relatively flat compared to other Fingers (like the Thumb's rigid ranks), with the Prescripts as the ultimate authority above everyone.

   From lowest to highest relevant ranks:

   1. Proselytes (entry-level disciples / initiates)

   • New recruits who wear blindfolds (symbolizing blind faith).
   • They serve under a Proxy as part of their "familia" (a small group of 5-6 Proselytes led by one Proxy).
   • Their role is to learn the ways of the Index, assist in carrying out Prescripts, and prove their dedication.
   • Promotion happens only when the Prescripts decree it (no meritocracy or politics, purely "fated").

   2. Proxies (executors / field leaders)

   • Former Proselytes who have been promoted by the Prescripts.
   • Upon promotion: blindfold removed + given a symbolic, personalized blade/sword.
   • They are the main enforcers and executors of the Prescripts.
   • They lead small groups ("familia") of Proselytes, guide them, and teach them the Index's ways while carrying out more important/dangerous tasks.
   • Proxies are generally stronger/more capable than Proselytes.

   There are also Messengers (who deliver Prescripts) and Weavers (who "weave" new Prescripts or interpret them), but these are parallel/specialized roles rather than a strict ladder above Proxies. Any rank can be killed if they don't follow the Prescript given to them.

2. #2Prescripts

   Entry settings

   Prescripts are small pieces of paper with instructions inside them. These instructions are random and indiscriminate, sometimes being normal things like "eat an apple and plant the core", sometimes being specific like "kill a frog and hang it upside down by its feet while it faces the sunset". By being random, it will also include killing, violating, and doing crimes but it will never give tasks that are made "Taboos" by the Head. Prescripts are made by "Weavers", which are singular individuals handling each of their own machines that makes these Prescripts. Prescripts are made randomly by using the "Will of the City", with a pendulum that swings slightly to the sounds of the City, from noises, to random chatter, to footsteps and tasks of the everyday people.
