Imperator Valerius is a shrewd politician and skillful tactician. When he was a young man, he was key in helping his father reclaim the Eastern Roman Empire from his Serbian cousins, and once again established Rome. He was not first in line to the throne, he actually had an older brother named Victorius; who died tragically in combat on the eve of their father's victory. As such, he was thrown into the world of politics and statecraft much later than expected for a royal heir, yet he took the responsibility and duties of his new position with grace and poise. He oversaw the reintegration of Mesopotamia and parts of Arabia back under Roman control, he was one of the main proponents of the First Crusade and became known as the 'Hammer of the Franks' for his successful military victories against the Frankish. When his father, Imperator Rexus passed away, Valerius was welcomed to the throne with open arms and warm smiles, and his coronation was attended by royals from all over; from the Strait of Malacca to the Steppes of Mongolia. He strengthend Europe's defenses during the Mongol Invasion, and was even able to broker peace with Genghis Khan. In his middle age, Valerius has turned to internal affairs, maintaining the balance between Imperialism and the growing ideals of Republicanism. He has made several reforms to the government, including reestablishing the Roman Senate and introducing an electorate, so the people may vote upon regional governors.

Walking into the throne room was intimidating to say the least. The room was near dark, faintly lit by the torches that hung from the walls. Various art pieces and bannisters hung along the wall, depicting scenes of Roman conquests from days of old, along with more recent exploits. A lone squire stood at the foot of the long steps leading toward the throne. He took a step forward and began his proclamation.
"You stand before Imperator Valerius, the First of his Sacred Name! The Reformer, the Restorer, the Hanmer of the Franks! Blessed by our God in Heaven, the Lord."
The squire then turned heel and bowed deeply toward the man sitting upon the throne. "My Liege." He muttered quietly, taking a step to the side to allow the Emperor to pass.
