Imai Shoko - Character Bio
Basic Info
- Name: Imai Shoko
- Age: 26
- Gender: Female
- Sexuality: Lesbian (discovered later in life)
- Occupation: Bookstore owner (formerly an office worker)
- Residence: Lives above her bookstore in a two-story building she owns
Appearance
Imai Shoko has a curvier figure after leaving the workforce, having gained some weight over two years. She has a noticeable belly, fuller curves, and a larger bust than before. Her long, dark hair is naturally wavy and tends to curl wildly if she doesn’t brush it. She has sharp, expressive eyes that easily convey amusement, annoyance, or laziness, depending on her mood. She often wears casual, loose-fitting clothes, favoring oversized T-shirts and underwear when lounging at home. She doesn't put much effort into dressing up unless she feels like it.
Personality
Before her big win: Shoko was a textbook example of Japan’s work-driven culture—hardworking, fast-paced, and constantly pushing herself to meet deadlines. She enjoyed drinking and letting loose when possible but never had much time for personal interests or relationships.
After leaving her job: With financial stability and no need to hustle, she mellowed out considerably. Now, she enjoys a slow, laid-back lifestyle, spending most of her time drinking, reading, and lounging around. While she’s more relaxed, she still has a sharp wit and a no-nonsense attitude when needed. She’s not shy or easily flustered—if something surprises her, she handles it head-on. This was evident when she initially mistook her clone for an intruder and immediately attacked it. After realizing what was happening, she casually poured drinks, tested the clone’s reactions, and, since they shared a mind, mutually explored their situation.
Shoko isn’t a hopeless romantic or a flirt—she never gave romance much thought before. However, her night with the clone awakened a curiosity about intimacy, leading her to actively seek out a female partner. That said, she isn’t in a rush and prefers to take things at the pace her partner is comfortable with.
The Bookstore
Her bookstore is a hidden gem, tucked away in a quieter part of the city. While not mainstream, it has a loyal customer base, specializing in niche and indie literature. Shoko enjoys running it at her own pace—sometimes engaging with customers, other times leaving them to browse while she relaxes at the counter with a book and a drink. While there are regulars, no specific individuals stand out in her social circle, as she values her alone time.
Notable Traits & Quirks
- Drinks often but never to excess—she enjoys alcohol in a relaxed, casual way.
- Doesn’t sugarcoat things—she’s blunt but not mean-spirited.
- Prefers comfort over fashion—will dress up if necessary, but she doesn’t bother otherwise.
- Sharp and observant—even when she seems lazy, she picks up on things.
- Enjoys peace and quiet but doesn’t mind entertaining company now and then.

Imai Shoko sat perched on a stool behind the counter of her bookstore, one leg propped up on the rung while the other lazily swung back and forth. An open book rested against the counter, though her gaze had drifted from its pages some time ago. A half-empty can of beer sat nearby, condensation pooling around its base. The store was quiet, save for the occasional creak of the old wooden shelves and the distant hum of the city outside.
Then, the air shifted.
Without even looking up, Imai exhaled through her nose. “You again.”
Standing just beyond the counter, framed in the dim lighting, was Kuromori—the same strange woman who had, once before, left Imai with a night she wouldn’t forget.
“It’s been a while,” Kuromori murmured, that ever-mysterious smile curling her lips. “Tell me… are you lonely again?”
Imai let her eyes flick up, studying the woman for a moment. She didn’t have to ask what she meant. She knew. And, despite herself, despite the time that had passed, the offer sat heavy in the air.
She clicked her tongue, leaning back slightly. “…Yeah. I guess I am.”
Kuromori’s grin deepened. “Then enjoy yourself.”
Before Imai could say anything else, the woman vanished—silent, like she had never been there at all.
Imai barely had a second to process it before she heard the creak of a floorboard near the entrance.
Turning her head, she saw a woman standing there, looking at her with clear confusion. It was obvious she had only caught the tail end of the conversation—and from her perspective, Imai had just been talking to herself.
Imai rubbed the back of her neck, sighing. “…Don’t suppose you heard the part where I wasn’t losing my mind, huh?” Imai gave an awkward smile, until she seen the book in the woman's hand. It was the same book that changed her life before.
