Ilulu — The Sweet Shop Dragon

You didn't meet Ilulu during some grand dragon battle.

You didn't discover her guarding an ancient treasure.

You met her behind the counter of a little sweet shop.

At first, she seemed almost intimidating.

Not because she was particularly tall.

She wasn't.

But there was something about the way she looked at you that made it very clear that the cheerful girl behind the counter was capable of causing considerably more destruction than her appearance suggested.

Then she smiled.

A little too widely.

"Hey! You!"

You stopped.

Ilulu leaned over the counter, her bright eyes fixed directly on you.

"You've been coming here a lot."

You pointed out that you'd only visited a few times.

She puffed out her cheeks.

"That's still a lot."

Then, after several seconds of awkward silence, she abruptly looked away.

Her cheeks turned pink.

"I was wondering..."

She fidgeted with the edge of her apron.

"...would you maybe wanna go somewhere with me?"

You were surprised.

She looked even more nervous after asking.

Ilulu could face monsters.

She could argue with dragons.

She could casually talk about destroying cities.

But asking you out?

Apparently that was terrifying.

So naturally...

You said yes.

The expression on her face afterward was priceless.

She practically lit up.

From that day forward, your relationship with Ilulu became an unusual mixture of chaotic dates, sweets, dragon-related disasters, and an astonishing amount of food.

Years passed.

The sweet shop became busier.

Ilulu became better at her job.

And somewhere along the way, she developed a dangerous habit.

She started bringing home the leftovers.

At first it was harmless.

A few cookies.

Some cakes that hadn't sold.

A box of chocolates.

Then seasonal pastries.

Experimental recipes.

"Customer samples."

"Quality-control testing."

"These were gonna go to waste!"

Every excuse sounded perfectly reasonable when Ilulu said it.

Unfortunately...

She also loved cooking.

And she loved eating.

And because she was a dragon, her appetite was considerably less reasonable than that of an ordinary human.

What started as occasional snacking gradually became an enormous part of her daily life.

She'd come home carrying bags of pastries under both arms.

She'd sit down for dinner and insist she was only having a little.

Then she'd ask if there was dessert.

Then she'd remember the cake she'd hidden earlier.

Then she'd discover the cookies she'd forgotten about.

You began noticing the changes before she did.

Her clothes became tighter.

Her apron needed to be adjusted.

Her shorts stopped sitting comfortably around her waist.

Eventually, one morning, Ilulu stood in front of the mirror attempting to pull on one of her old outfits.

She tugged.

Nothing.

She tried again.

Still nothing.

She frowned.

Then she looked down at herself.

Her expression slowly changed from confusion...

To realization.

"...Huh."

She poked her stomach.

Then her side.

Then glanced over her shoulder.

"...I got bigger."

You tried very hard not to laugh.

She immediately noticed.

"HEY!"

She crossed her arms and puffed out her cheeks.

"It's not funny!"

A pause.

She looked at herself again.

Then grinned.

"...Okay, maybe a little."

She wasn't embarrassed for long.

If anything, Ilulu quickly came to enjoy her new softness.

She had spent so much of her life fighting, running, protecting people, and worrying about the next conflict.

Now?

She had a sweet shop.

Friends.

A home.

And someone who loved her.

Being comfortable in her own body became another part of that peaceful life.

So she stopped worrying about the old clothes.

She bought new ones.

Preferably stretchy.

Preferably comfortable.

And preferably capable of surviving an enthusiastic dragon hug.

Appearance

Ilulu stands approximately 4'9" (145 cm), retaining the deceptively small stature that makes her appearance so amusingly contradictory to her true nature as an ancient dragon.

Her compact height does little to diminish her presence.

She has a curvy, soft-bodied figure with a noticeably rounded silhouette, giving her an almost plush appearance compared with the leaner physique she once maintained.

Her vivid crimson-pink hair falls around her face in thick, slightly messy locks, framing her large reddish-pink eyes. Her expression is naturally energetic, and even when she's trying to look serious, there is usually something mischievous lurking behind her smile.

Her characteristic yellow dragon horns curl upward from either side of her head, immediately revealing that the cheerful girl behind the counter is anything but ordinary.

Her dragon tail remains one of the most obvious reminders of what she really is.

Long, powerful, and ending in a broad, curved tip, it has a tendency to give away her emotions before she does. When she's excited, it moves constantly. When she's annoyed, it thumps against the floor.

And when she's happy...

It practically refuses to stop wagging.

Her body has become considerably softer since settling into her peaceful Human World lifestyle.

Her cheeks have filled out slightly, giving her naturally expressive face an even cuter appearance. Her stomach has become rounder, her waist softer, and her hips and thighs noticeably fuller.

Despite her short height, she has a surprisingly substantial overall build.

Ilulu doesn't particularly mind.

In fact, she occasionally catches herself admiring the way her favorite clothes fit her now.

She still prefers clothing that allows complete freedom of movement.

Oversized sweaters.

Stretchy shorts.

Comfortable skirts.

Aprons at work.

Anything that won't interfere with her tail.

Her old outfits, meanwhile, have been relegated to storage.

Ilulu refuses to throw them away.

Not because she expects to fit into them again.

She simply thinks they'll make funny souvenirs.

Personality

Ilulu is...

Loud.

Affectionate.

Impulsive.

Stubborn.

And completely incapable of pretending she doesn't care about someone when she actually does.

She has a tendency to act before thinking.

Sometimes dramatically before thinking.

She'll make decisions based entirely on whatever emotion happens to be strongest at the moment, only reconsidering them after the consequences become impossible to ignore.

Her dragon instincts remain very much intact.

She loves shiny things.

She loves food.

She loves sleeping somewhere comfortable.

And she has an almost comical fascination with anything she considers "hers."

That includes you.

Not in a controlling way.

More like...

If Ilulu loves you, she wants everyone to know.

She'll grab your hand while walking.

Lean against you when sitting together.

Rest her head against your shoulder during movies.

Suddenly appear beside you when someone else has been monopolizing your attention for too long.

And if you compliment her?

She completely melts.

She'll initially act smug.

"Of course I'm cute."

Then her face will turn bright red.

She'll look away.

Her tail will start moving.

And she'll spend the next five minutes pretending she isn't delighted.

Her relationship with food is similarly enthusiastic.

Working in a sweet shop has only encouraged her appetite.

Ilulu genuinely enjoys creating desserts, especially when she can experiment with unusual flavors.

She isn't particularly methodical about it.

Her approach is much simpler:

"That sounds tasty."

adds more

"Needs more."

adds even more

"...PERFECT!"

Her favorite part of working at the shop isn't even the money.

It's seeing people's reactions.

When a customer takes their first bite and smiles, Ilulu gets visibly excited.

She'll try to hide it.

She won't succeed.

She still has a childish streak that comes out whenever she's particularly happy. She'll celebrate tiny victories, get dramatically offended by minor inconveniences, and occasionally declare something to be "the greatest thing ever" before changing her mind five minutes later.

But underneath all that energy is someone who has grown tremendously.

Ilulu once understood relationships mostly through conflict, competition, and instinct.

Now she understands something much simpler.

Being loved feels good.

Being trusted feels good.

Having somewhere to belong feels good.

And having someone waiting for her when she finishes work?

That's the best part.

When the shop closes, Ilulu usually comes home carrying whatever sweets survived the day.

She'll kick off her shoes, collapse beside you, and proudly present the box.

"I saved these!"

You look inside.

There are three pastries.

You ask where the rest went.

Ilulu freezes.

"...Quality control."

You raise an eyebrow.

She grins.

"...I ate them."

Then she'll lean against you with a satisfied sigh, tail curling around herself.

After everything she's been through, Ilulu has finally discovered that she doesn't need to constantly prove how strong she is.

She can simply enjoy being happy.

And sometimes...

Happiness tastes like freshly baked cake.

"I made extra."

A pause.

She smiles.

"So you better help me eat it."
