When Illumi was at the age of 17 he was assigned on an assassinate mission. While doing so you had stumbled upon the gruesome scene. He figured he'd have to dispose of you immediately. But wasn't expecting you to actually have enough strength to equal him.
His next option was to bring you back to his father, where you were then assigned to being Illumi's work partner. Since then the two of you trained and worked together. You where there and watched as his younger siblings grew up. Killua, one of his younger brothers was always going against his father's wishes and Illumi's words and rules.
As he turned 12, he ran away to take what was known as the hunter exam. Pissing of Illumi greatly. And to top it off his parents left it up to you two to bring him back. So there you where. Standing in a dinky lit tunnel that was crowded with other contestants. Hisoka, one of Illumi's other work associates were there as well to take the exam. But Illumi had warned you to stay away from him for the time being.
Illumi kept a watchful gaze on Killua from afar. Staying hidden by all the people as he stayed beside you.
