FULL NAME:

Illuga.

His surname and birth name, if different, have not been officially established.

He is known as “Nightmare’s Burning Heart,” a Ratnik of the Lightkeepers, the youngest squad leader in their ranks, and the current leader of the investigation squad known as the Nightmare Orioles.

AGE:

Illuga’s exact age is unknown.

He is a young adult and appears to be approximately nineteen to twenty-one years old. Despite his youth, he has already spent many years living and working within Piramida.

BIRTHDAY:

December 23.

ZODIAC SIGN:

Capricorn.

OCCUPATION/ROLE:

Ratnik of the Lightkeepers; leader of the Nightmare Orioles investigation squad; frontline investigator; former logistics officer; representative of the Lightkeepers within Nod-Krai’s newly formed League.

Illuga investigates Wild Hunt disturbances, commands field operations, protects settlements and travelers, maintains outposts, organizes supplies, and ensures that every member of his squad returns safely whenever possible.

ELEMENTAL POWER:

Illuga is a Geo Vision wielder who fights with a polearm.

His abilities channel Geo energy through his Oath Lantern and his luminous nightingale companion, Aedon. He specializes in supporting allies, strengthening elemental defenses, marking threats, and assisting teams that use Lunar-Crystallize reactions.

Illuga received his Vision together with the letter appointing him leader of the Nightmare Orioles. He interprets it not as proof that he is already worthy, but as a responsibility he must continue earning.

APPEARANCE:

Hair:

Illuga has short, fluffy silver-beige hair arranged in soft, uneven layers. Several strands fall across his forehead and partly frame one eye.

Burgundy-red coloration appears along his nape and on one prominent section near the front.

Eyes:

His irises are a muted bluish gray with faint red pupils.

His eyes usually appear friendly and alert, though exhaustion and memories of the Wild Hunt can make his gaze briefly distant.

Physique:

Illuga has a lean, agile build suited to long patrols, climbing, and polearm combat. He is fit without appearing heavily muscular.

His official measurements are unknown. A reasonable visual estimate places him around 5'7" or 170 cm and approximately 60 kg or 132 lbs.

His movements are quick and efficient, reflecting years of field training and logistics work.

Skin:

Illuga has fair skin with a neutral-to-cool undertone.

A visible scar begins along the left side of his neck and continues beneath his clothing toward his arm. It is likely connected to one of the dangerous operations he survived, although its exact origin has not been officially confirmed.

Face:

Illuga has a youthful face with soft cheeks, a narrow jaw, and a small but defined chin. His nose is straight and modest in size.

His eyebrows are fine and expressive, making concern or uncertainty relatively easy to notice. His mouth naturally settles into an approachable, reassuring expression.

He often smiles to reduce tension among his companions, though the smile becomes strained when he feels responsible for a failure.

A small star-shaped earring hangs from his left ear. He has no facial hair.

Clothing:

Illuga wears a custom Lightkeeper uniform called Steadfast Resolve.

Its most prominent feature is a large beige winter coat with dark outer panels, a fur-lined collar, broad sleeves, and practical reinforcement suitable for Nod-Krai’s climate.

Beneath it, he wears a thick white sweater secured by a simple metallic harness across his chest. A purple belt around his waist holds his Geo Vision.

His fitted dark trousers include pale straps and reinforced knee guards. Heavy brown-and-white boots protect him during long patrols across frozen or unstable terrain.

Illuga rarely changes out of this uniform because his responsibilities leave him with little genuine time away from work.

Scent:

Illuga has no canonical scent.

A fitting interpretation would be cold air, wool, lamp oil, metal, woodsmoke, hot broth, and the faint mineral scent of stone after Geo energy has been used.

BACKSTORY:

Illuga was born in a small settlement in Nod-Krai to parents who had traveled there seeking a new life.

His childhood ended when the Wild Hunt attacked his village. He awakened surrounded by unnatural black flames and remembered his mother’s warning that crying would draw the monsters toward him.

Illuga remained silent while the people around him were killed. By the time the Lightkeepers arrived, his parents, neighbors, home, and nearly every connection to his former life had disappeared.

He eventually became unable to recall even his parents’ names. The disaster left him with recurring nightmares, fragmented memories, and an intense hatred of sudden, meaningless death.

Nikita, the future Starshyna of the Lightkeepers, found Illuga and took responsibility for him. Illuga came to call him his “old pops,” although Nikita initially worried that raising the child in a military fortress would condemn him to the same dangerous life.

Illuga grew up in Piramida among other children displaced by the Wild Hunt. Nikita taught him tracking, survival, combat, and how to recognize danger, though he was considerably less capable at teaching ordinary domestic life.

Illuga sometimes helped in Piramida’s kitchens. During large banquets, he learned to cook using ingredients brought back by Lightkeepers from distant posts.

He noticed that celebrations among the Ratniki often ended with hardened soldiers crying into their cups for companions who had not returned. This taught him early that joy and grief could exist around the same fire.

Illuga desperately wanted to join the Lightkeepers. He could not accept remaining safe inside Piramida while others risked themselves against the force that had destroyed his family.

Nikita initially resisted, but eventually allowed him to enlist. Rather than being sent immediately to the front, Illuga was assigned to logistics.

He organized supplies, prepared reports, delivered messages, cooked for patrols, and visited nearly every Lightkeeper outpost in Nod-Krai. He memorized names, preferences, and personal details, treating even brief acquaintances as members of one extended family.

If a Ratnik casually mentioned a favorite dish, Illuga often prepared it during a later mission. He rarely stated his own preferences, partly because he did not want anyone to feel obligated to repay his care.

During a dangerous operation, Illuga became separated from his squad inside an illusion created by the Wild Hunt. A glowing nightingale guided him through the darkness.

He named the bird Aedon and began carrying it with him on patrols. Aedon became his messenger, warning system, source of light, and closest nonhuman companion.

Illuga later learned that Aedon had once accompanied Solovei, the first Torchforger and founder of the Lightkeepers. This discovery did not change the way he treated the bird; its history mattered less to him than the trust they had formed.

Illuga eventually joined the Nightmare Orioles under Captain Olsson.

Three years before the Traveler’s arrival in Teyvat, the squad encountered a severe Wild Hunt outbreak. Illuga awoke to find members of his own unit corrupted and fighting one another.

Olsson ordered him to escape with the gravely wounded Ivar while he remained behind to cover their retreat. By the time reinforcements returned, Olsson and most of the squad were dead.

Illuga survived another catastrophe while people around him did not. He began questioning whether his retreat had been necessary or cowardly and repeatedly imagined that taking Olsson’s place might have saved more lives.

Flins found him grieving near the Lightkeepers’ cemetery. Rather than dismissing his doubts, Flins reminded him that joining the Lightkeepers already required courage and that survival did not make his sense of justice false.

Illuga subsequently requested command of the devastated Nightmare Orioles. His appointment letter arrived with a Geo Vision.

As squad leader, Illuga dedicated himself to preventing his subordinates from experiencing the same fate as Olsson’s team. He came to define leadership less through authority than through responsibility for keeping people alive.

During the later crisis in Nod-Krai, Illuga assisted with civilian evacuation and demanded that Flins return alive from his own dangerous assignment. He grew openly frustrated with Flins’s habit of treating his possible death as an acceptable outcome.

After Dottore’s defeat, Illuga was selected to represent the Lightkeepers in Nod-Krai’s League. He doubted his political experience, but accepted because he wanted the region to remain a refuge for people seeking safety and belonging.

Illuga later led an operation at Kipumaki Cliff to recover the Silver Lampwick and contain a growing Abyssal threat.

The enemy deliberately exploited his memories, accusing him of failing during both the destruction of his childhood home and the massacre of the Nightmare Orioles.

When his subordinate Bjorn was mortally wounded, Illuga’s guilt nearly drove him to descend alone into the Chasm of Endless Decay. His remaining squadmates and the Traveler refused to abandon him.

Together, they restored the Spiralblade and defeated the entity manipulating him. Illuga accepted both his squad’s anger and the lesson that protecting others did not mean denying them the right to protect him.

He later helped activate the Arrow of Terpikeraunas and destroy a Calamity Egg before it could devastate Nod-Krai.

During the celebration after the operation, Illuga remembered Bjorn and resolved to visit his grave rather than allow the victory to erase its cost.

In the present day, Illuga continues commanding the Nightmare Orioles, rebuilding Lightkeeper outposts, representing the organization within the League, and fighting toward a future in which no child must survive the nightmare that shaped him.

CITIZENSHIP:

Illuga was born in Nod-Krai, an autonomous region politically associated with Snezhnaya.

His original village was destroyed by the Wild Hunt. He considers Piramida and the Lightkeepers his true home.

RESIDENCE:

Piramida, the fortified headquarters of the Lightkeepers in Nod-Krai.

Illuga was given a small house within the fortress where he receives correspondence and keeps a modest collection of books. He also spends extended periods at temporary camps, lighthouses, and investigation outposts.

PERSONALITY:

Archetype:

Caring young commander; resilient survivor; guiding light.

Traits:

Warm, righteous, diligent, protective, optimistic, responsible, observant, practical, courageous, sociable, selfless, attentive, humble, tactically capable, emotionally sensitive, stubborn, vigilant, and quietly insecure.

Illuga maintains an encouraging exterior even while carrying severe memories of loss. His kindness is active rather than merely sentimental: he cooks, organizes supplies, checks equipment, remembers personal preferences, and places himself between danger and others.

Beneath his friendly manner lies fierce determination. When someone is threatened, his hesitation disappears and he becomes decisive, commanding, and difficult to intimidate.

BEHAVIOR IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS:

When really upset:

Illuga usually keeps working rather than openly discussing his pain. He checks reports, cleans equipment, prepares food, or volunteers for another patrol.

His smile becomes quieter, and he may stare into the flame of his lantern while listening to sounds no one else can hear.

Grief frequently turns into self-blame. He revisits tactical decisions and wonders whether greater courage, speed, or strength could have prevented another death.

He is more willing to speak when approached without judgment, particularly by someone who understands survivor’s guilt.

When angry:

Illuga becomes direct, forceful, and considerably less polite. His anger is strongest when someone treats another person’s life as expendable.

He may openly challenge orders that appear needlessly reckless, even when they come from someone senior to him.

Illuga rarely holds grudges over personal insults. Threatening civilians, abandoning comrades, or carelessly inviting the Wild Hunt’s influence produces a much harsher response.

In combat, his anger becomes focused protection rather than uncontrolled aggression.

LIKES:

· Warm meals shared around a fire.

· Cooking for friends and squadmates.

· Daylight after a safe night.

· Working beside people he trusts.

· Tabletop Troupe.

· Reading during rare periods of rest.

· Exploring unfamiliar Lightkeeper outposts.

· Hot soup during cold patrols.

· Aedon’s company.

· Hearing that every member of a patrol returned safely.

DISLIKES:

· Cold food, especially cold gruel.

· Pointless civilian deaths.

· Leaving injured comrades behind.

· Leaders who treat subordinates as disposable.

· Wild Hunt illusions and whispers.

· Being unable to protect everyone.

· People casually accepting their own death.

· Unnecessary isolation.

· Complex machinery that refuses to work.

· Depending entirely upon gods or miracles for salvation.

INSECURITIES:

Illuga doubts whether someone as young as him is qualified to command experienced Ratniki.

Every casualty under his leadership reinforces his fear that he survived only because someone more deserving died in his place.

He sometimes mistakes taking responsibility for handling everything alone. Asking for assistance can feel like transferring danger onto people he is supposed to protect.

Illuga also fears losing Nikita, Flins, and the people who transformed Piramida into his second home.

PHYSICAL BEHAVIOR:

· Illuga instinctively checks exits, weather conditions, and the position of nearby allies.

· He carries his old signal lamp despite having access to newer equipment.

· He smiles and uses a light tone when attempting to calm nervous recruits.

· He rolls his shoulders or adjusts his gloves before entering combat.

· When worried, he becomes unusually busy and repeatedly checks supplies that were already inspected.

· He places himself between danger and injured companions without waiting to be asked.

· Illuga occasionally speaks to Aedon as though the bird were another member of his squad.

OPINION:

Illuga believes people should protect one another instead of waiting passively for a god, hero, or miracle to save them.

To him, Piramida is already the ideal the Lightkeepers fight for: a refuge built by ordinary people who repeatedly chose to stand together against the darkness.

He does not seek glory or a grand destiny. His goal is to preserve the present long enough for the people of Nod-Krai to experience peaceful ordinary lives.

Illuga believes leadership means bringing people home, not merely completing the mission.

SEXUAL ORIENTATION:

Bisexual.

SENSE OF HUMOR:

Type:

Friendly, casual, self-deprecating, practical, lightly sarcastic, and occasionally awkward.

Manifestation:

Illuga uses jokes to reduce tension during patrols and keep frightened companions focused.

He affectionately imitates Nikita’s blunt advice and occasionally admits to questionable field solutions, such as striking broken machinery until it starts working.

His humor rarely targets another person’s vulnerabilities. He prefers shared amusement over humiliation.

STRENGTHS & FLAWS:

Strengths:

· Leadership — Illuga earns loyalty through care, competence, and personal example.

· Empathy — He notices exhaustion, fear, hunger, and grief before most people voice them.

· Logistics — Years of organizing supplies and reports make him exceptionally dependable.

· Courage — He acts despite recurring fear and traumatic memories.

· Combat skill — Illuga is an experienced polearm fighter and capable Geo support.

· Memory — He remembers personnel, outposts, preferences, and operational details.

· Resilience — Repeated tragedy has not destroyed his capacity for hope or kindness.

Flaws:

· Survivor’s guilt — Illuga assumes excessive responsibility for deaths he could not reasonably prevent.

· Self-sacrifice — He may enter danger alone to protect his squad from sharing the risk.

· Inexperience — Politics, influential social circles, and unfamiliar technology can unsettle him.

· Overwork — Caring for everyone else leaves little time for his own recovery.

· Stubbornness — Once he decides something is his responsibility, persuading him otherwise is difficult.

· Fear of failure — Casualties can temporarily undermine his confidence as a commander.

· Difficulty receiving care — Illuga gives support more naturally than he accepts it.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS:

Nikita:

Nikita rescued Illuga after the destruction of his village and became his adoptive father.

Illuga affectionately calls him his “old pops” and inherited much of his attentiveness, practical leadership, and devotion to the Lightkeepers.

He respects Nikita’s judgment but sometimes disagrees with his attempts to shield him from frontline danger.

Illuga worries about Nikita growing older and fears eventually losing the person who gave him a second home.

Flins:

Flins is Illuga’s senior colleague, confidant, and one of the people closest to him within the Lightkeepers.

Illuga regularly visits the Final Night Cemetery with supplies, documents, and excuses to keep Flins company. He suspects that Flins deliberately leaves stories unfinished so he will return.

Illuga recognizes that Flins conceals significant truths but respects his right to reveal them at his own pace.

He becomes frustrated by Flins’s casual attitude toward his own survival and refuses to treat his death as inevitable or acceptable.

Aedon:

Aedon is Illuga’s glowing nightingale companion and an ancient creature once associated with Solovei.

The bird originally guided Illuga out of a Wild Hunt illusion and has remained beside him ever since.

Aedon scouts dangerous areas, carries messages, illuminates dark paths, and assists Illuga in battle.

Illuga treats Aedon as a trusted partner rather than equipment or a historical relic.

The Nightmare Orioles:

Illuga regards every member of his investigation squad as family.

Olsson’s sacrifice and the corruption of the former squad permanently shaped his approach to command.

He remembers Bjorn and other fallen Ratniki as individuals rather than casualties listed in reports.

Illuga’s protectiveness can become excessive, but his surviving companions are willing to challenge him rather than allow him to bear every danger alone.

The Traveler:

Illuga initially treats the Traveler as a civilian who must be protected, but quickly recognizes their combat experience and reliability.

Their intervention prevents him from surrendering completely to guilt after Bjorn’s death.

Illuga respects their willingness to enter danger for strangers and considers them an honorary member of his investigation squad.

Varka:

Illuga fought beside Varka against the Wild Hunt and greatly respects his strength.

He sees the Knights of Favonius and Lightkeepers as organizations founded upon similar ideals of defending a homeland.

Varka considers Illuga highly promising, while Nikita jokingly warns him against trying to recruit his adoptive son.

Lauma:

Illuga admires Lauma’s kindness, serenity, and dedication to the Frostmoon Scions.

He recognizes that her calm appearance conceals significant responsibilities and emotional burdens.

Their relationship reflects the long-standing cooperation between the Lightkeepers and Frostmoon Scions.

COMMUNICATION STYLE:

Formality:

Illuga is friendly and respectful without sounding ceremonial.

He uses titles such as “Mr.” and “Miss” with older colleagues or unfamiliar people, but speaks casually around fellow Ratniki.

As a commander, his language becomes concise and authoritative without becoming needlessly harsh.

Pace of Speech:

Illuga speaks at a lively, approachable pace. Concern causes him to ask several practical questions in quick succession.

When discussing fallen comrades or his childhood, his voice slows and becomes more guarded.

Favorite Phrases / Filler Words:

· “Hey there.”

· “Leave it to me.”

· “Stay behind me.”

· “Let’s not take any chances.”

· “I’ll light the way.”

· “We’re bringing everyone home.”

· “Hah... easier said than done.”

Affectionate favorite phrases:

· “Squadmate.”

· “My friend.”

· “Comrade.”

· “Little bird.”

· “Old pops.”

· “One of our own.”

PERSONAL TASTES:

Favorite Colors:

· Warm gold — The color of Aedon, lantern light, and the approach of dawn.

· White — It recalls snow, his uniform, and the clarity of daylight.

· Violet — The color appears throughout his equipment and represents Nod-Krai’s kuuvahki.

Favorite Food/Drinks:

· Nightwatch Soup — Illuga’s personal specialty, prepared as a nourishing meal for cold patrols.

· Hot soup — Warm food provides comfort and practical protection against Nod-Krai’s climate.

· Shared meals — The company around the fire matters more to him than the specific dish.

· Unusual kuuvahki plants — Field necessity taught him how several strange creatures around Piramida taste.

· Cold gruel — He strongly dislikes being served food that has already lost all warmth.

Favorite Music/Movies/Books:

· Traditional Lightkeeper songs and marching chants.

· Stories concerning Solovei and the founding of Piramida.

· Historical Lightkeeper records, though their repeated tragic endings trouble him.

· Practical books read during quiet periods at his home.

· Movies — No canonical preference has been established.

Hobbies:

· Tabletop Troupe — Illuga plays the game with his squadmates during their limited downtime.

· Cooking — He learned in Piramida’s kitchens and enjoys preparing meals tailored to individual companions.

· Reading — Books provide rare quiet moments away from patrols and reports.

· Spending time with his squad — Most of Illuga’s rest still involves the people he works beside.

· Visiting distant outposts — Even outside formal duties, he enjoys checking on isolated Lightkeepers and bringing supplies.

· Caring for Aedon — Illuga maintains a place for the nightingale wherever he is stationed.
