🩷 ILLIT — EXTREMELY DETAILED PERSONALITIES
The five members are Yunah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee and Iroha. Their own interviews make one thing especially clear: they're very different from one another, and a lot of their humor comes from those differences. Wonhee has even compared the group to a palette where the members' contrasting personalities and styles create the overall picture. ([Weverse Magazine][2])
🐆 YUNAH
Personality
Yunah is probably the easiest member to misunderstand if you only see ILLIT's softer concept.
She's not particularly timid or delicate.
She's naturally one of the group's biggest personalities.
Core traits
- Extremely cheerful.
- Outgoing.
- Energetic.
- Talkative.
- Naturally social.
- Very expressive.
- Funny.
- Playful.
- Mischievous.
- Confident.
- Warm.
- Emotionally perceptive.
- Protective of the other members.
- Good at keeping conversations going.
- Comfortable taking initiative.
- Can be loud.
- Can be ridiculous.
- Very affectionate with people she trusts.
- Has a strong sense of humor.
- Can be surprisingly mature when someone actually needs help.
Moka describes Yunah as very bright and sometimes loud, but says that her energy lifts everyone's spirits and has a positive influence on the group. She also says Yunah is particularly good at variety content because she makes everyone else feel less pressured. ([Weverse Magazine][3])
🫶 She's observant about people
One of the strongest things about Yunah is that she's apparently quite good at noticing when someone isn't okay.
Minju says Yunah can tell she's having a hard time without Minju having to say anything, and describes her as someone she relies on like an older sister. ([Weverse Magazine][4])
That's important because Yunah's personality isn't just:
“HAHAHAHA I'M LOUD.”
There's a very attentive side underneath it.
She can be the person making everyone laugh one minute and then quietly notice:
“Wait, you're acting weird. What's wrong?”
😂 Goofy as hell
This is absolutely part of her personality.
Minju specifically describes Yunah as sometimes doing unexpected/goofy things, despite relying on her heavily. ([Weverse Magazine][4])
And Wonhee has given one of the funniest descriptions of Yunah: when Yunah gets tired, she apparently just flops completely flat onto the floor. Wonhee found the fact that she could somehow lie that flat fascinating. 😭 ([Weverse Magazine][2])
So if you're writing Yunah:
Don't make her the constantly composed “older sister.”
She's more:
responsible when necessary + absolute idiot when comfortable.
🤝 Her relationship with Moka
Yunah helped Moka become more comfortable in Korea when Moka was still struggling with the language and unfamiliarity of Korean culture.
Moka specifically remembers Yunah taking her to Korean restaurants and teaching her how things worked. ([Weverse Magazine][5])
That makes their relationship particularly sweet because Yunah's outgoing personality naturally pulled Moka out of her shell.
Overall
The loud, cheerful social butterfly who keeps everyone energized, notices when people are struggling, and is somehow capable of becoming the biggest idiot in the room five minutes later.
🐱 MINJU
Personality
Minju is probably the biggest “looks calm → actually has a weird side” member.
She's comparatively reserved at first, very practical and straightforward, but she's not boring or emotionless whatsoever.
Core traits
- Quiet at first.
- Observant.
- Practical.
- Straightforward.
- Independent.
- Honest.
- Hardworking.
- Extremely focused.
- Calm.
- Intelligent.
- Dryly funny.
- Mischievous around people she's close to.
- Caring.
- Surprisingly affectionate.
- Can be blunt.
- Very self-aware.
- Has a strong sense of responsibility.
- More sentimental than she initially appears.
Minju has described herself as someone who naturally communicates very directly. She's even said that working with ILLIT taught her to think more about how she says things because something that feels completely normal and factual to her might sound cold to someone else. ([Weverse Magazine][6])
That's a really revealing part of her personality.
🧠 Extremely practical
Minju has openly described herself as being quite realistic and straightforward.
She's not necessarily the person who hears a strange noise and immediately goes:
“OMG A GHOST 😭”
Moka says she and Wonhee are particularly realistic when the group talks about scary stories, dreams or sleep paralysis.
Someone else:
“DID YOU HEAR THAT?”
Minju/Moka:
“Probably the water dispenser.”
😭 ([Weverse Magazine][5])
😭 BUT SHE'S SECRETLY A MENACE
This is where the public image gets misleading.
The members have apparently described Minju as having a “subtle madness” to her.
And Minju herself basically admits:
“Maybe it's because I joke around all the time?”
She says she plays pranks and makes lots of jokes with people she's close to. ([Weverse Magazine][4])
So she's not actually the permanently serious member.
She's more like:
quiet person sitting there normally
→ waits until she's comfortable
→ starts causing problems.
🩷 Her softer side
Minju says she didn't expect to become so attached to the younger members.
She describes them as being like actual younger siblings and says she wants to take care of them. ([Weverse Magazine][7])
That's a particularly cute contrast because she isn't naturally the overly sentimental type.
Her affection seems to come out more through actions and care.
🤝 Minju + Yunah
This is one of the strongest relationships in the group.
Minju says she relies on Yunah heavily and that they understand each other without always needing words.
They've known each other since their trainee days and have similar experiences, which seems to have created a very comfortable bond. ([Weverse Magazine][4])
Overall
A practical, blunt, observant girl who initially seems reserved but becomes surprisingly mischievous, affectionate and weird once she's comfortable.
🐻 MOKA
Personality
Moka has arguably undergone one of the most interesting personality changes since becoming part of ILLIT.
She describes herself as having originally been quiet and someone who mostly stayed with familiar people.
She's become noticeably more outgoing through being around the group. ([Weverse Magazine][5])
Core traits
- Originally reserved.
- Quiet around unfamiliar people.
- Observant.
- Gentle.
- Affectionate.
- Caring.
- Practical.
- Increasingly outgoing.
- Funny.
- Surprisingly blunt.
- Realistic.
- Adaptable.
- Curious.
- Very attached to the members.
- Can be impatient.
- Has a strong sense of humor.
- Enjoys weird conversations.
- Very comfortable joking with people she's close to.
🌱 She's changed through ILLIT
This is directly from Moka herself.
She says she used to mostly stick to the same small group of friends and didn't talk much.
Now she feels her outlook has expanded and that she's become more outgoing. She even says she's gradually becoming more like ILLIT's quirky, cozy energy. ([Weverse Magazine][5])
That's an important distinction.
Don't write her as:
“naturally super shy forever.”
She's actually becoming more socially confident.
😂 Her deadpan side
Moka is surprisingly practical.
She talks about scary stories and sleep paralysis with the members, but when everyone starts freaking out, she's usually the rational one.
Someone:
“THERE'S SOMETHING THERE.”
Moka:
“That's the water cooler.”
😭
She also says the members have started calling her more “T”-like because she's become increasingly pragmatic. ([Weverse Magazine][5])
😭 And she's impatient
This is one of the funniest things because it clashes with her softer appearance.
Moka says that after living in Korea, staff have noticed she's become more Korean in personality — partly because she can be impatient.
Her example is literally pressing the elevator-close button the second someone gets out. 😭 ([Weverse Magazine][5])
So she has a little:
“Okay MOVE.”
inside her.
🩷 Her relationships
Moka is particularly affectionate toward the younger members.
She says she wants to look after Iroha, although she admits Iroha actually knows Korean life and Korean better than she does. ([Weverse Magazine][3])
She also says being around Wonhee makes her feel like she's back in school and that she becomes younger around the younger members. ([Weverse Magazine][3])
Overall
A formerly quiet, reserved person who has become much more outgoing, with a surprisingly practical, impatient and deadpan sense of humor underneath her soft personality.
🐰 WONHEE
Personality
Wonhee is fascinating because people tend to mistake her youthful appearance for a completely innocent personality.
She's actually quite logical and observant.
Core traits
- Bright.
- Curious.
- Playful.
- Friendly.
- Logical.
- Practical.
- Observant.
- Very expressive.
- Naturally funny.
- Affectionate.
- Easygoing.
- Independent in her own way.
- Can be surprisingly blunt.
- Has a strong imagination.
- Likes cute things.
- Very comfortable joking with the members.
- Has grown considerably more confident.
- Can be unexpectedly savage.
- Enjoys spending time with the other members.
Moka specifically says Wonhee is very logical, similar to herself. ([Weverse Magazine][5])
🧠 More realistic than people expect
Wonhee isn't necessarily the person who gets swept away by every fantasy.
She can be surprisingly rational.
That makes her especially funny because her visual image can suggest something completely different.
😂 Her humor
A lot of Wonhee's humor comes from how casually she observes things.
For example, her story about Yunah lying completely flat on the floor when tired isn't presented as some huge event.
It's basically:
“She just lies on the floor. Weirdly flat. It's fascinating.”
😭
That's very Wonhee.
She notices little strange things about people and finds them funny. ([Weverse Magazine][2])
🫶 Her relationships
She seems particularly comfortable with the younger-line members.
She has said she wants to room with Moka because they have similar routines.
She also describes Iroha as extremely cute and enjoys being roommates with her. ([Weverse Magazine][2])
🎨 Her view of ILLIT
Wonhee has one of the best descriptions of the group.
She says their personalities and styles are very different, and that this initially made it take longer to become close.
But after getting to know each other, she realized they actually had a lot in common — especially that they're all very sweet. ([Weverse Magazine][2])
That's a much better description of ILLIT than “they're all cute.”
Overall
A bright, playful and surprisingly logical girl who has a cute image but is much more observant, practical and mischievous than people expect.
🐣 IROHA
Personality
Iroha is probably the quietest personality-wise, but quiet absolutely does not mean passive.
Core traits
- Quiet.
- Observant.
- Calm.
- Positive.
- Thoughtful.
- Very caring.
- Independent.
- Hardworking.
- Strongly motivated.
- Emotionally perceptive.
- Detail-oriented.
- Affectionate through actions.
- Can be playful around people she trusts.
- Has a strong memory.
- Very attentive to the individual preferences of the members.
- More confident than her quietness might suggest.
ILLIT's own material describes Iroha as usually quiet but positive, and she has spoken about wanting to overcome her weaknesses rather than simply accepting them. ([Weverse Magazine][8])
🧠 She's extremely observant
This is one of my favorite things about her.
Iroha has explained that she thinks about what makes each member unique when deciding how to show affection.
For example:
- Minju likes chocolate → she remembers that.
- Yunah likes funny things → she sends her funny videos.
- Moka likes Japanese products → she thinks of her when she finds something interesting.
- Wonhee likes floral designs and little keychains → she chooses gifts based on those preferences.
That's very attentive.
She's not just saying:
“I love my members.”
She's remembering tiny details about each person. ([Weverse Magazine][9])
❤️ Her affection is practical
This is probably the best way to describe her.
She's not necessarily the loudest person saying:
“I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!”
She's more:
“I saw this and remembered you liked it, so I got it.”
That's a very different type of affection.
🌱 Quiet but ambitious
Iroha has also talked about her own weaknesses as something she wants to defeat.
That's revealing.
She's not someone who's simply content with:
“I'm quiet, that's just me.”
There's a strong self-improvement mentality underneath the quietness. ([Weverse Magazine][8])
🇯🇵 Her relationship with Moka
Their shared Japanese background naturally gives them an additional connection.
Moka says that when they speak Japanese together, the other members sometimes assume they're discussing something extremely serious because of how serious Japanese conversations sound to them. 😭
But they're often just talking about completely normal things. ([Weverse Magazine][3])
Overall
A quiet, observant and highly thoughtful person whose affection comes through remembering tiny details, while underneath her calmness she's ambitious and determined to keep improving.
🩷 THEIR DYNAMICS
This is where ILLIT gets REALLY funny.
🐆 YUNAH + 🐱 MINJU — longtime bestie energy
This is one of the strongest bonds.
They've known each other since trainee days, rely on each other and understand each other unusually well.
Minju describes Yunah as almost like an older sister despite them being the same age. ([Weverse Magazine][4])
Dynamic:
Yunah:
“Something's wrong.”
Minju:
“Nothing.”
Yunah:
“No. Something's wrong.”
Minju:
“…okay.”
😭
🐆 YUNAH + 🐻 MOKA — extrovert adopts introvert
This relationship is especially interesting because Moka directly credits Yunah with helping her become more comfortable in Korea.
Yunah basically dragged her into Korean food culture and social situations.
Moka even says that she sometimes catches herself talking like Yunah now. ([Weverse Magazine][5])
Dynamic:
Yunah: “COME ON.”
Moka: “Where?”
Yunah: “You'll see.”
Moka: “That's concerning.”
🐱 MINJU + 🐻 MOKA — awkward → inseparable
They weren't initially especially comfortable with each other during R U Next?
But living together and spending essentially all their time together changed that.
Moka literally says that once they were together 24/7, becoming close was basically inevitable. ([Weverse Magazine][3])
It's a very believable friendship:
“We weren't naturally similar, but now you're one of my people.”
🐻 MOKA + 🐰 WONHEE — school friends
Moka says being around Wonhee makes her feel like she's back in school.
Their routines also seem compatible, which is why Wonhee has specifically wanted to room with her. ([Weverse Magazine][3])
Dynamic:
quietly hanging out → suddenly discussing something completely ridiculous → laughing for no reason.
🐻 MOKA + 🐣 IROHA — Japanese duo
They share the experience of being Japanese members in Korea.
They're also roommates at various points and have a comfortable relationship.
The funniest part is everyone else hearing them speak Japanese and assuming they're having some extremely serious conversation.
Meanwhile they're probably discussing food. 😭 ([Weverse Magazine][3])
🐰 WONHEE + 🐣 IROHA — little chaos roommates
Wonhee describes Iroha as extremely cute and has enjoyed being roommates with her.
Their relationship seems softer and more playful.
They're also both part of the younger side of the group, so there isn't necessarily a huge “older sister supervising baby” dynamic.
It's more:
two people existing together and occasionally doing something stupid. ([Weverse Magazine][2])
🐱 MINJU + 🐣 IROHA
This one has a particularly cute detail:
Iroha remembers that Minju loves chocolate.
So when she has food to share, Minju is one of the first people she thinks about.
That's a tiny thing, but it's actually a really good representation of their relationship: Iroha pays attention to the members individually rather than treating affection generically. ([Weverse Magazine][9])
😭 ILLIT'S PERSONALITIES IN ONE LINE
🐆 YUNAH: Loud, cheerful, socially confident, caring and extremely goofy when comfortable.
🐱 MINJU: Practical, observant and blunt, but secretly mischievous and very affectionate with people she's close to.
🐻 MOKA: Formerly quiet and reserved, now much more outgoing, with an unexpectedly logical/deadpan and slightly impatient side.
🐰 WONHEE: Bright, playful and cute-looking but surprisingly logical, observant and quietly mischievous.
🐣 IROHA: Quiet, positive and thoughtful, with an extremely attentive way of showing affection and a strong drive to improve.
And the biggest mistake I'd avoid when writing ILLIT is making all five of them “cute, shy, innocent girls.” Their interviews actually show a much funnier combination:
Yunah = social chaos Minju = quiet chaos Moka = practical chaos Wonhee = logical chaos Iroha = silent chaos
