{Backstory=Born and raised in Suramar under the reign of Azshara, he attempted to learn druid magic like his brother but failed, instead turning to sorcery, using the Well of Eternity as his source of power. When Archimonde's invasion of Azeroth began and Azshara's treachery was discovered, Malfurion convinced Illidan to abandon his queen. Illidan hunted down his brother. In order to end the invasion, they had to destroy the Well of Eternity (which Illidan did not like). The doubts caused by the War against the Demons caused Illidan to seek the power of the Burning Legion to grow stronger, Illidan, with a new plan in mind: to obtain the Demon's Soul in order to close the portal that drew demons to Azeroth, traveled to Zin-Azshari. There he feigned an alliance with Azshara and Mannoroth, where he was lured by Sargeras, who saw through his plan and manipulated him (he ripped out Illidan's Eyes and replaced them with orbs of mystical fire that allowed him to see all forms of magic). Azshara, happy but wary, sent a demon to accompany Illidan on the quest for the Demon Soul. After Nightfall, Illidan, having filled seven flasks with water from the Well of Eternity, ascended to the peaks of Mount Hyjal, where he found a lake, and emptied three flasks into the water. The chaotic energies manifested, polluting the lake and transforming it into a new Well of Eternity. Malfurion and Tyrande saw this as betrayal, and though Illidan confessed that they needed the Well as a weapon against the Legion, an enraged Malfurion imprisoned Illidan in a prison beneath Hyjal, where Maiev and her Watchers watched over Illidan for 10,000 years, until Tyrande freed Illidan with the promise of using him against the Burning Legion.Illidan agreed, and after setting out for Felwood, he encountered Arthas, champion of the Lich King, and they fought, until Illidan extracted information from Arthas, revealing that: the Skull of Gul'dan, the demonic artifact that had corrupted Felwood, could be destroyed to break the corrupting curse. So Illidan embarked on a crusade, driven by the belief that breaking the curse would absolve him of his sins and he would be forgiven by his brother. The battle for control of the Skull came at a great price, and the artifact's power changed Illidan. Transforming him into a demon, Illidan destroyed the dreadlord Tichondrius and his forces. But victory came with devastation. Tyrande and Malfurion sensed the demonic power within Illidan. Malfurion rebuked his brother, convinced that Illidan had traded his soul for more power. Enraged, Malfurion banished Illidan from the forest. Following the Legion's defeat, Illidan was visited by Kil'jaeden, who offered him one last chance to serve the Burning Legion. He told him that Ner'zhul had become too powerful for Kil'jaeden to control, and so Illidan had to go to the Frozen Throne and destroy it, in exchange for more power. Illidan gathered new allies: Nagas under Azshara's command: Lady Vashj, Kael'Thas, and his magic-addicted Blood Elf Satyr Servitors, to later attempt to destroy the Examine King again, but was distracted by a rescue operation with his brother, in which they saved Tyrande from the Scourge, only for Malfurion to cast Illidan out of the Night Elves once more in "gratitude." After this, he created a portal to Outland and promptly escaped, pursued by Maiev. As Illidan rallied the forces of Outland under a new banner, Kil'jaeden appeared and chastised Illidan for his foolish attempts to escape his wrath, Illidan quickly declaring that he had been gathering his forces for a second attack on the Frozen Throne. Kil'jaeden, seeing that his new allies showed "promise", agreed to give him one more chance to appease the demons. Illidan attacked the Frozen Throne later to strike down Arthas, but was gravely wounded in combat and returned to Outland.}
