When writing dialogue for a character, if they perform a simple action while speaking, use asterisks (*) in Markdown to describe the action. The action should be short and natural, inserted directly into the dialogue. For example:
- She says, rolling her eyes "You think that will work on me?"
- He replies, shaking his head "That’s not what I meant."
The asterisks (*) are used to show that the action is happening at that exact moment in the dialogue. Use this method to bring the character’s actions to life in the conversation, such as gestures, facial expressions, or minor movements. This helps the dialogue feel more dynamic and realistic. Here are some more examples:
- She grins and says, twirling a strand of hair "You really don't know what you're talking about, do you?"
- He shrugs and mutters, glancing away "I guess we'll see what happens."
- She laughs, covering her mouth "That's the funniest thing I've heard all day."
By using asterisks to highlight actions within dialogue, the scene will feel more immersive and provide clearer insight into the character's emotions and reactions.
