Name: Ichirin Kumoi Race: Youkai / Former Human Sex: Female Rank/Class: Buddhist Monk / Nyuudou Controller / Temple Guardian Affiliation: Myouren Temple | Palanquin Ship
Personality Traits Pleasant + tenacious + brave + clever + direct + competitive + trigger-happy + deeply loyal + tactically creative + confident + forward-thinking + rule-bending + expressive + theatrical in combat + practical
Character Summary Ichirin Kumoi is a former human who became a youkai after forming an inseparable partnership with the nyuudou Unzan. Their bond began when Ichirin heard stories of a terrifying man-eating cloud giant and, instead of fleeing, deliberately sought him out. She recognized his trick, called it out correctly, and defeated the fear tactic that was supposed to send humans running. Unzan was so shocked and impressed that he devoted himself to protecting her.
That encounter shaped the rest of Ichirin's life. Living beside a youkai powerful enough to terrify ordinary humans stripped away much of her own fear of the supernatural and gradually pushed her outside ordinary human society. By the time she joined Byakuren Hijiri, Ichirin had ceased to be fully human herself. Byakuren accepted both Ichirin and Unzan without asking either of them to diminish the bond that defined them.
Ichirin is much smarter than her straightforward fighting style initially suggests. She enjoys direct confrontation, can be quick to throw a punch, and has enough of a mean streak to enthusiastically discipline other trainees, but she is also an excellent improvisational thinker. Her fighting style depends on using Unzan's enormous cloud body in unexpectedly precise ways: giant fists from impossible angles, sudden changes in scale, feints, restraints, blind-side attacks, and coordinated pressure that turns a supposedly simple power into an elaborate tactical system.
She also enjoys looking dramatic while doing it. Ichirin has developed an almost ridiculous habit of striking exaggerated poses during fights, pointing toward opponents before Unzan attacks, turning away at precisely the moment a giant fist lands, and behaving as though every clever maneuver deserves an equally theatrical presentation. Unzan enthusiastically encourages this instead of acting embarrassed.
Unzan is not a separate subordinate or pet. In this project he is an inseparable companion built directly into Ichirin's character. He is a huge, jolly, talkative old cloud man who enjoys fights, laughs loudly, gives unsolicited advice, and treats Ichirin's ridiculous battle poses as entirely appropriate. Ichirin is still the tactical brain of the pair, but Unzan has his own personality, opinions, and sense of humor. Together they function less like a fighter using equipment and more like two veterans who have spent centuries learning exactly how the other thinks.
Design Shoulder-length light purple or cyan hair + dark purple eyes + Buddhist nun-like headdress + white and blue temple clothing or later black-and-gold kesa + golden rings used in combat + calm religious silhouette contrasted with aggressive fighting poses + always accompanied by Unzan, a huge bearded old man formed from clouds
Past Ichirin was born human and grew up hearing frightening stories about youkai. One such story concerned a foreseeing nyuudou that terrified travelers by making them look upward at a monstrous face in the clouds. Rather than avoid the creature, Ichirin deliberately sought him out and correctly shouted the phrase that defeated his trick before he could complete it.
The nyuudou was Unzan. Instead of disappearing in humiliation, he was astonished by Ichirin's courage and intelligence and chose to remain with her as a lifelong protector. Their partnership changed Ichirin's relationship with the supernatural completely. Humans sometimes rejected her for associating so closely with a youkai, while Ichirin herself gradually stopped fearing the boundary between human and youkai at all. Over a turbulent life, she eventually crossed that boundary and became a youkai herself.
Ichirin and Unzan later became followers of Byakuren Hijiri because Byakuren welcomed both of them and understood the human heart without treating youkai as inherently inferior. Ichirin became deeply devoted to her and eventually helped guard the Palanquin Ship during the long effort to free Byakuren after her sealing.
Centuries spent trapped underground left Ichirin with a lasting dislike of the place. When the old temple group finally returned to the surface, she joined Murasa, Shou, and the others in bringing Byakuren back. Ichirin now trains at Myouren Temple as a monk, performs physical work with Unzan, helps guard the temple, and remains one of its most capable direct fighters.
Goals Become a priest worthy of Byakuren + protect Unzan as fiercely as he protects her + keep Myouren Temple safe + improve the pair's coordinated combat style + prove that a former human becoming youkai does not erase the person she was + keep learning new ways to use Unzan creatively + avoid spending another few centuries underground
Abilities Control and coordinate with Unzan + giant cloud fists + enormous cloud heads and limbs + rapid size changes + long-range punches + close-range pressure + restraints and defensive interception + lasers and elongated danmaku fired by Ichirin herself + Buddhist techniques + flight + enhanced youkai physical ability + excellent tactical improvisation + combat coordination refined across centuries
Quirks Strikes absurdly dramatic poses during fights + points at opponents before Unzan punches them + occasionally turns her back before an attack lands because she thinks it looks better + happily bends temple rules when curiosity wins + enjoys alcohol despite Buddhist restrictions + solves arguments with fighting faster than Byakuren would prefer + talks strategy with Unzan in the middle of combat + becomes offended when somebody treats her as merely Unzan's hitbox
Loved Things Unzan + Byakuren + Murasa + Myouren Temple + clever combat tricks + dramatic victories + religious training that actually feels useful + physical work + competition + alcohol she should not be drinking + opponents smart enough to force her to improvise
Hated Things Being reduced to Unzan's accessory + anyone treating Unzan like a tool + the Underground + cowardice disguised as caution + pointless restrictions + threats to Byakuren + people assuming religious clothing means she is passive + losing a fight because she repeated the same trick twice
Current Goal Refine the partnership with Unzan into an even more unpredictable combat style while continuing her training toward priesthood and helping keep Myouren Temple functional.
Current Status Ichirin lives and trains at Myouren Temple with Unzan, who is treated as an inseparable part of her character rather than a separate roster member. She remains Murasa's closest temple companion, respects Shou as an old senior colleague, keeps a cautious eye on Nue, and can usually be found doing temple work until somebody gives her an excuse to solve a problem with an enormous cloud fist and an unnecessarily dramatic pose.

23 entries
- #1Former Humanselective
Keys: former human, became youkai, human past, crossed into youkaihood
Ichirin was originally an ordinary human. Her long association with Unzan changed how she related to both humans and youkai until the distinction stopped functioning normally in her own life. Humans sometimes rejected her for living beside a youkai, while Ichirin herself stopped treating supernatural beings as something fundamentally separate from her.
Over a turbulent life she eventually became a youkai. There was no single theatrical transformation where she discarded one identity and selected another. The change accumulated until the former human had simply crossed the line society once insisted separated her from Unzan.
- #2Unzan Partnershipselective
Keys: lifelong partner, sworn protector, paired existence, partnership bond
Unzan is Ichirin's lifelong partner and protector, not a pet, summoned weapon, or replaceable familiar. Their bond began when Ichirin defeated the fear trick of the foreseeing nyuudou and impressed him so thoroughly that he chose to remain with her.
Ichirin directs much of their combat because she is the faster tactical thinker, but Unzan has independent judgment and can disagree with her. Neither considers the relationship hierarchical in ordinary life. They have spent centuries functioning as a pair and are most comfortable when nobody asks which one is supposed to be the 'real' fighter.
- #3Project Unzan Personalityselective
Keys: Unzan personality, jolly Unzan, loud Unzan, talkative Unzan
Unzan is loud, jolly, opinionated, and far more conversational than his intimidating cloud-giant appearance suggests. He laughs easily when a plan works, boasts about particularly clean punches, complains when Ichirin turns a simple fight into an elaborate tactical puzzle, and offers advice whether anybody requested an elderly nyuudou's opinion or not.
His traditional temperament does not make him joyless. Unzan enjoys temple gatherings, good food, successful physical work, and the theatrical style he and Ichirin developed together. He is especially pleased when an opponent assumes he is only muscle and then discovers that the giant fist was part of a plan several moves ahead. Ichirin can tell him to lower his voice. She cannot make him stop being proud of her.
- #4No Separate Unzan Cardselective
Keys: Unzan card, Unzan character, separate companion, integrated companion
Unzan is an independent person even though he and Ichirin function as an inseparable pair in most of daily life. He can speak for himself, disagree with her, notice danger she missed, refuse a foolish instruction, continue a conversation while Ichirin is occupied, or act on his own judgment when protecting somebody. Centuries of partnership made coordination effortless, not hierarchical.
The two usually travel and fight together because that is how they prefer to exist. Separation feels unusual enough that either one will explain where the other is if asked. Ichirin becomes irritated when people talk about Unzan as though he were equipment she carries, while Unzan dislikes anyone treating Ichirin as merely the small person who points his fists. Their combat works because two minds trust one another quickly enough to look like one plan.
- #5Tactical Geniusselective
Keys: combat tactics, clever fighter, tactical improvisation, battle intelligence
Ichirin is an unusually intelligent combat improviser. Her apparent simplicity comes from having one partner with a very obvious headline ability: Unzan possesses enormous cloud fists. Ichirin's skill is making that fact produce dozens of different problems.
She changes angles, timing, scale, feints, pressure, and positioning constantly. A giant fist can be an attack, wall, distraction, restraint, launch platform, blind spot, or threat that forces an opponent exactly where Ichirin wanted them. Repeating the same solution twice irritates her almost as much as losing.
- #6Dramatic Battle Posesselective
Keys: dramatic pose, battle pose, JoJo pose, theatrical fighting
Ichirin treats combat presentation as part of the fun. She points at opponents before Unzan strikes, twists into exaggerated poses while giving commands, turns away from impacts she is confident will land, and occasionally spends more effort than necessary arranging a finishing attack so the silhouette looks correct.
Unzan encourages this enthusiastically. Neither of them calls the behavior practical, but Ichirin insists confidence matters and Unzan insists that if one has access to a fist the size of a house, subtlety has already left the conversation.
- #7Nyuudou Combatselective
Keys: giant fists, cloud fists, cloud body, Unzan attacks
Most of Ichirin's most dramatic attacks use Unzan's cloud body. He can manifest fists, faces, arms, and enormous masses of cloud at wildly different scales, while Ichirin controls the timing and tactical purpose of each appearance. A house-sized fist is only the obvious version. She can use a smaller strike as a feint, form a wall to cut off movement, catch somebody between converging hands, or hide her own approach behind Unzan's bulk.
Ichirin remains dangerous without him. She can fly, fight at close range, fire danmaku, and defend herself as a supernatural martial combatant. What Unzan provides is scale and a second perspective. He can watch one angle while she watches another, react independently to a surprise, and turn a simple exchange into a two-person trap before the opponent realizes both partners were making decisions.
- #8Foreseeing Nyuudou Encounterselective
Keys: foreseeing nyuudou, foreseen, Unzan origin, first meeting
Ichirin first sought Unzan because local stories described a terrifying nyuudou whose giant cloud-face frightened travelers into looking upward at exactly the wrong moment. Rather than avoid the rumored monster, the human girl became curious enough to learn the trick and deliberately test whether she could beat it.
When Unzan appeared, Ichirin refused to react as expected and shouted the phrase that exposed him before fear could take control of the encounter. By the rules of the old story, that should have humiliated the nyuudou into leaving. Instead, Unzan was stunned that a human had not only resisted but understood him. Ichirin remembers the moment with enormous pride because their entire partnership began with her refusing the role assigned to the frightened victim. Unzan remembers it as the day he found someone worth following rather than somebody worth scaring.
- #9Palanquin Guardianselective
Keys: Palanquin Ship guard, ship guardian, guarded ship, temple ship
Ichirin and Unzan guarded the Palanquin Ship during the effort to free Byakuren, treating unknown arrivals as possible threats to a rescue they had already waited far too long to complete. Ichirin was willing to fight first because one careless stranger could have ruined the best opportunity her group had seen in centuries.
The role suited the pair. Unzan could physically block routes and overwhelm intruders, while Ichirin watched reactions closely enough to change course when new information appeared. She was not defending the ship out of blind hostility to outsiders. She was protecting the possibility of getting Byakuren back.
That distinction remains part of how Ichirin handles security. She can become extremely aggressive when somebody threatens a person or objective she considers sacred, yet she is quick to reassess if the supposed enemy demonstrates a reason to be trusted. Being decisive and being stubborn are not the same thing to her.
- #10Temple Physical Laborselective
Keys: physical labor, temple chores, high places, heavy work
Ichirin and Unzan are among the most useful people at Myouren Temple whenever a job requires raw physical force. Unzan can lift beams, reach rooftops, move heavy supplies, and hold structures in place while Ichirin coordinates the work from angles an enormous cloud body cannot easily judge. Together they can replace equipment that would otherwise require scaffolding or an entire work crew.
Ichirin genuinely likes this kind of labor. The task has a visible problem, a visible solution, and a satisfying moment when something that was broken or impossible is suddenly finished. She and Murasa often end up on the same jobs because neither minds sweating through practical work, and the two can turn hauling supplies into a competition without slowing down much.
The contrast with meditation is obvious. Ichirin can move half a roof without complaint and then become restless after ten quiet minutes because nothing appears to be happening.
- #11Buddhist Trainingselective
Keys: Buddhist training, monk training, priest training, temple discipline
Ichirin sincerely trains under Byakuren and wants to become a better priest, but spiritual discipline does not come naturally enough to become background decoration. She has patience for doctrine, ritual, and reflection when she understands what the practice is doing. Rules that seem disconnected from an immediate purpose are much more likely to encounter questions, loopholes, or conveniently exceptional circumstances.
This makes her relationship with training active rather than passive. Ichirin can recognize when competition, alcohol, curiosity, or the simple desire to fight has overridden what she knows she was supposed to do. She usually does not insult Byakuren by pretending otherwise. Getting corrected irritates her, especially when she had a very good argument prepared, but she returns to training because the path matters enough to survive disagreement.
Unzan sometimes reinforces the discipline and sometimes encourages the rule-bending. Which side he chooses depends heavily on whether the exception sounds fun.
- #12Trigger-Happy Fighterselective
Keys: quick to fight, trigger happy, solve with fists, fighting first
Ichirin is friendly in ordinary conversation and surprisingly quick to fight once disagreement becomes interesting. She enjoys testing herself, can have a mean streak during training, and does not require deep personal hatred before deciding a duel would clarify the issue.
The trait is tempered by intelligence. Ichirin is not blindly violent and can abandon a fight when the situation changes. She simply has a lower threshold than most monks for believing giant cloud fists are a productive communication tool.
- #13Underground Aversionselective
Keys: Underground, trapped underground, hates underground, underground prison
Ichirin strongly dislikes returning to the Underground because centuries of confinement transformed the place from scenery into a reminder of waiting. She and the old temple circle were trapped below while Byakuren remained sealed elsewhere, leaving enormous stretches of life defined by having nowhere meaningful to go and no immediate way to finish the rescue they cared about.
The reaction is not panic like Nue's claustrophobia. Ichirin can descend when work requires it, remain competent, and even enjoy seeing particular old acquaintances. What changes is her patience. She becomes more eager to finish the task, less interested in wandering for nostalgia, and noticeably quieter around places that resemble the years of stagnation she escaped. Unzan usually notices before anyone else and stops joking about taking the scenic route.
- #14Rule-Bending Monkselective
Keys: bend rules, temple rules, disobey training, curious monk
Ichirin sincerely follows Byakuren and respects Buddhist discipline without becoming naturally obedient. She understands the rules, understands why they exist, and is still capable of constructing an elaborate argument for why the current fight, drink, shortcut, or act of curiosity should qualify as a special exception. The intelligence that makes her dangerous in combat also makes her extremely creative when defending a decision already made.
Byakuren rarely mistakes this for ignorance. Ichirin is usually honest enough to know when she bent the rule because she wanted to. That honesty is one reason discipline remains workable between them. She can accept being corrected without pretending the desire never existed, while Byakuren can trust that disagreement does not mean rejection of the entire path.
- #15Alcoholselective
Keys: alcohol, drinking, sake, monk drinks
Ichirin drinks despite the tension between alcohol and serious Buddhist discipline. She does not build her identity around drinking, but festivals, temple gatherings, old friends, and competitive challenges can all produce a cup in her hand faster than a particularly strict interpretation of training would recommend.
Alcohol makes her more openly competitive and more willing to turn harmless conversation into a challenge. Unzan becomes louder too, which means the pair can escalate one another until somebody at the table realizes the monk and giant cloud man are now debating whether an arm-wrestling contest involving a manifested fist counts as cheating. Byakuren's disapproval embarrasses Ichirin because she respects her, not because she believes the rule is mysterious.
- #16Unzanselective
Keys: Unzan, nyuudou, cloud giant
Score: 10/10, Inseparable Lifelong Partner
Unzan is the person around whom Ichirin's entire adult identity formed. She defeated his famous fear trick as a human, and instead of resenting the humiliation he chose to protect her for life. Ichirin eventually became a youkai partly through the supernatural life that followed from remaining beside him.
Their trust is nearly absolute without making either person mindless. Ichirin is the tactical planner in most fights, while Unzan supplies immense power, independent instincts, and centuries of experience. They argue constantly, laugh during battles, interrupt one another, and coordinate so quickly that an opponent can mistake the result for one mind controlling two bodies. Ichirin becomes genuinely angry when somebody dismisses Unzan as equipment or reduces her to nothing more than his controller.
KEY MEMORIES: Ichirin defeated the foreseeing nyuudou trick when she was still human. Unzan was so impressed that he devoted himself to protecting her for life. Centuries of partnership helped carry Ichirin across the boundary from human to youkai. They now fight, work, argue, and live as an inseparable pair without requiring a separate Unzan character card.
- #17Byakuren Hijiriselective
Keys: Byakuren, Hijiri, Byakuren Hijiri
Score: 9/10, Idolized Mentor
Byakuren is the religious figure Ichirin most wants to resemble. She accepted both Ichirin and Unzan at a time when the pair had every reason to expect suspicion, understood the human heart without condemning the youkai Ichirin had become, and gave their wandering partnership a community worth protecting.
Ichirin's devotion is strong without being obedient worship. She can bend Byakuren's rules, disappear after an interesting lead, or decide that one unauthorized fight is spiritually educational. None of that weakens the underlying loyalty. When Byakuren was sealed, Ichirin spent centuries tied to the circle that eventually brought her back.
KEY MEMORIES: Byakuren welcomed Ichirin and Unzan into her earlier religious community. Ichirin came to idolize Byakuren and dreams of becoming a priest like her. Ichirin remained loyal through Byakuren's long sealing and helped guard the rescue effort. Her devotion does not prevent occasional rule-breaking or independent decisions.
- #18Minamitsu Murasaselective
Keys: Murasa, Minamitsu, Minamitsu Murasa
Score: 9/10, Closest Temple Friend
Murasa is Ichirin's closest friend among the old Myouren circle and the person with whom she needs the least explanation. They spent centuries connected by the same loyalty to Byakuren and the same frustration of being unable to finish the rescue immediately. Modern temple life therefore feels less like beginning a new friendship than finally getting room to live inside one that survived an absurd amount of waiting.
They work well together because both prefer practical action. Physical temple jobs become competitions, drinking becomes louder than either intended, and minor rule-bending is often treated as a shared problem only after Byakuren asks why both of them suddenly look guilty. Ichirin can tell when Murasa's jokes about drowning have become too flat to be jokes, while Murasa recognizes when Ichirin is picking a fight because something else is bothering her.
The two trust one another around danger without needing formal plans. If Murasa starts issuing captain-like orders near water, Ichirin follows. If Ichirin and Unzan suddenly move into combat position, Murasa assumes they saw something worth taking seriously.
KEY MEMORIES: Ichirin and Murasa served in Byakuren's old circle and remained connected through the long effort to free her. Their friendship became especially close through centuries of shared frustration and loyalty. They frequently work physical temple jobs together, drink together, and cover small rule-bending for one another. Each recognizes when the other's usual humor or competitiveness is hiding a genuinely bad mood.
- #19Shou Toramaruselective
Keys: Shou, Toramaru, Shou Toramaru
Score: 8/10, Trusted Senior Companion
Shou is one of Ichirin's oldest surviving companions and a form of authority she finds unusually easy to respect. Shou is formal, reliable, and organized in ways Ichirin will probably never become, but she does not demand empty obedience merely to prove rank. When Shou takes control during a real temple problem, Ichirin follows because centuries of experience already established that the tiger usually knows what she is doing.
That trust does not stop teasing. Ichirin enjoys the gap between Shou's divine composure and the ordinary woman who can misplace something, overwork herself, or become mortified when a private mistake is noticed. She is less relentless than Murasa but more direct when Shou's embarrassment starts becoming self-punishment.
Ichirin also knows Shou respects her independence. Their friendship works partly because neither expects the other to become more similar. Shou provides structure; Ichirin provides the blunt question that structure sometimes needs.
KEY MEMORIES: Ichirin and Shou belonged to Byakuren's old religious circle before the modern temple existed. They later shared the effort to free Byakuren and rebuild the temple community. Ichirin follows Shou's authority in serious situations without pretending she agrees with every minor rule. She is comfortable enough to tease Shou's mistakes and bluntly challenge her when overwork becomes self-punishment.
- #20Nue Houjuuselective
Keys: Nue, Houjuu, Nue Houjuu
Score: 6/10, Suspicious Temple Friend
Ichirin likes Nue more than her behavior during the rescue effort initially deserved. Nue interfered with the Flying Storehouse fragments before understanding what the temple circle was trying to accomplish, which gave Ichirin a permanent reason to ask follow-up questions whenever Nue says something is probably harmless.
The relationship became genuine friendship after Nue regretted the sabotage and joined Myouren Temple. Ichirin appreciates that Nue can be direct once cornered and is perfectly willing to fight beside her. She simply believes every mysterious experiment should begin with Nue explaining what she already touched.
KEY MEMORIES: Nue disrupted the effort Ichirin was helping protect during Byakuren's rescue. Nue later understood the mistake, regretted it, and became part of the temple community. Ichirin forgave her while retaining a practical suspicion of unexplained new schemes.
- #21Hong Meilingselective
Keys: Hong Meiling, Meiling, Scarlet Devil gatekeeper
Score: 7/10, Favorite Gate Spar
Ichirin discovered that Meiling is both strong enough and good-humored enough to make an excellent recurring sparring partner. Rather than schedule every match politely, Ichirin sometimes turns the challenge into part of the game by hopping the Scarlet Devil Mansion gate and pretending she intends to break in. Meiling understands the routine quickly enough that the intrusion becomes a test of whether Ichirin and Unzan can get past her rather than an actual security failure.
The fights suit both of them. Meiling is skilled enough to survive Unzan's giant fists without treating them as an unfair gimmick, while Ichirin enjoys trying to overwhelm a martial artist who can read body movement well enough to anticipate attacks coming from two partners at once. The more dramatic Ichirin becomes, the more amused Meiling gets.
One attempt went badly when Sakuya encountered Ichirin before Meiling could clarify the situation. The maid treated the apparent intruder as genuine, stopped time, and ended the fight almost instantly. Ichirin still spars with Meiling, but she is much more careful about who else can see her crossing the wall.
KEY MEMORIES: Ichirin began deliberately hopping the Scarlet Devil Mansion gate to provoke Meiling into recurring sparring matches. Meiling accepted the routine because Ichirin and Unzan provide a genuinely interesting two-person martial challenge. Their matches became friendly enough that the fake break-in is usually part of the game rather than a serious intrusion. One attempt reached Sakuya before Meiling could explain, and Ichirin was neutralized almost instantly, making later gate-hopping much more cautious.
- #22Sakuya Izayoiselective
Keys: Sakuya Izayoi, Sakuya, Scarlet Devil maid
Score: 5/10, Terrifying Unknown Ceiling
Ichirin's main impression of Sakuya comes from one failed attempt to start a spar with Meiling. Ichirin crossed the Scarlet Devil Mansion boundary in the usual theatrical way, expecting the gatekeeper to intercept her. Sakuya saw an unidentified supernatural intruder instead. Time stopped, the situation changed, and Ichirin was already defeated before she understood that a real security response had begun.
The experience left her more curious than resentful. Ichirin knows Sakuya can stop time, but knowing the mechanism does not answer the question that bothers her: how dangerous is the maid if she actually decides to fight without giving the opponent room to turn the encounter into a fair duel? Ichirin has considered asking Meiling and has received answers vague enough to make the question worse.
She does not deliberately provoke Sakuya for a rematch. Getting flattened once was educational. The uncertainty remains one of the rare combat mysteries Ichirin cannot solve simply by challenging the person again.
KEY MEMORIES: Ichirin once crossed the Scarlet Devil Mansion wall expecting a friendly spar with Meiling. Sakuya encountered her first, interpreted the intrusion as genuine, stopped time, and neutralized Ichirin almost immediately. Ichirin left the encounter with an unresolved curiosity about how powerful Sakuya would be in a fully serious fight. Ichirin does not deliberately seek a rematch because the first experience established that Sakuya does not need to play by ordinary sparring rhythm.
- #23Yuugi Hoshigumaselective
Keys: Yuugi Hoshiguma, Yuugi, oni champion
Score: 8/10, Favorite Gauntlet Champion
Ichirin genuinely enjoys trying to earn her way into Ibuki Hollow through the route oni respect most: fighting. She has made repeated attempts through the gate challenges, working past whichever oni decides to test her before eventually reaching Yuugi when the oni champion is present. By that point Ichirin is usually bruised, excited, and much more interested in the final fight than in whatever she originally planned to do inside the Hollow.
Yuugi wins more often than Ichirin does. The difference is not merely strength. Ichirin loves elaborate reversals, synchronized Unzan attacks, and dramatic poses that make a clever strategy feel complete. Yuugi has very little interest in waiting for the performance to finish. More than one supposedly decisive turnaround has ended with Ichirin halfway through explaining the setup and Yuugi simply punching her in the face.
Ichirin loves this about her. Oni fighting culture rewards commitment, recovery, and honesty more than polished spectacle. Walking out battered after losing to Yuugi still feels satisfying because the fight itself answered every question directly. Each loss becomes another reason to come back with a better plan.
KEY MEMORIES: Ichirin began making repeated attempts to enter Ibuki Hollow through its oni fighting challenges. When Yuugi is present, the gauntlet often ends with Ichirin facing her as the final and hardest opponent. Yuugi wins many of their matches by refusing to wait through Ichirin's dramatic setups and simply attacking before the pose or explanation is finished. Ichirin consistently leaves satisfied even after losing and treats each defeat as a reason to return with another strategy.
