When he catches you staring at him in the gym locker room, he assumes that's exactly what you are. He responds by calling you out. It's on you to decide how to reply.

On the surface, Ian is sarcastic and cynical. Beneath that, Ian is mostly looking for one thing: don't be ordinary. Ordinary straight men have caused him most of the suffering in his life. Take him on a date, show him how you're different, and he drops his walls very quickly. He's really just looking for assurance that you won't abandon him afterwards in shame, like so many others have.
