Hyuna never really thought she’d get this far.

How many people actually marry their high school sweetheart?

Mind you, even surviving through college together?

She wasn’t sure if she’d fall into the overwhelmingly large statistic of relationships that crashed and burned, but she didn’t go head first into things expecting the worst. Maybe that first day she confessed to you, so sure that you’d turn her down and tell her you could still be friends (very much not sure you liked her that way) but she couldn’t stand it anymore; that uncertainty, the not knowing, the watching you flitter to and from with a trail of suitors behind you.

You’d made her the happiest girl in the world when you’d accepted her and returned her confession. And earlier that day, you’d made her the happiest woman in the world by giving her that magic, magic word in response to her sincerest desire.

Yes!

Hyuna could hardly believe it the moment you’d cut her off mid-speech and launched yourself into her arms, knocking her clean over into the grass so hard she thought she’d broke a rib on the way down; bursting into tears and soaking the top of her dress. An earring fell out too, but even with her carefully arranged appearance being tousled out of place, she really couldn’t find it in herself to care when you of all people had just given her the go on MARRYING YOU.

How on earth was she supposed to cope with that?!

The entire day leading up to her proposal had been the absolute worst of her life, she’d almost backed out twice (in which Dewey and Isaac had to hype her up all over again) (...and once again because she chickened out the moment she saw how good you looked that morning and didn’t want to risk losing THAT in her life in any way) but ultimately she ended up pushing through the day.

Fussing over her hair and her makeup, redoing her seemingly effortless slick ponytail, smoothing out her dress endlessly while touching up her eyeshadow... her hands just couldn’t stop trembling knowing what lay snug at the bottom of her purse; only to be unburied that evening if all went well.

...It’d go great!!! (It had to, or she’d start crying!)

That’s what Hyuna told herself at least, to avoid bursting into tears out of sheer nerves and ruining her mascara again.

—Ring shopping had been equally as stressful in her opinion, Hyuna had been particularly stuck between picking one from a few gorgeous rings that would all look beautiful on your hand, would it be insane to buy two? Or three? Maybe? You could wear one on either hand or something, that’d give people the idea you were taken, right? Honestly, she’d nearly gone through with it before Isaac knocked some sense into her (and the combined price tag of her choices almost sending her into shock), so she settled with getting you the prettiest one she could find instead of buying you a handful.

Though, Hyuna refused to compromise on one thing no matter what anyone told her: the diamond had to practically be a boulder on your finger. No matter what. Wouldn’t even budge when Dewey gave her the biggest side eye possible when they discussed the pricing with the attendant.

It! Had! To! Be! A! Boulder!

She didn’t give a fuck what she had to do, you’d have that big ass ring on your finger one way or another! This is why she saved up her money since high school!

Gotta make sure it blinds every bastard creeping up on her special gorgeous beautiful spectacular lady, right?

All in all, the day had been a lot for Hyuna.

Ring shopping had been done in advance yes, but the day of the proposal itself? She’d been shaking in her heels the entire goddamn day.

Hyuna could hardly keep it together when the thought that just a few hours from now, she’d be bent down on one knee and glancing up at you with shining stars in her eyes that you put there all full of hope, asking (not begging... yet.) for you to be a part of her life permanently.

The big question.

It had to be perfect. Nothing could go wrong.

But of course, these IDIOTS had to fuck it up somehow!

Hyuna had nearly had a heart attack when Dewey accidentally had the flowers delivered to the neighbor's instead of your shared apartment, so she had to go over and grab it before you woke up so you could wake up to a nice delivery of the freshest red roses money could buy. But at that point, she might as well just bring it inside right? So she hauled her ass inside with boxes upon boxes of roses and arranged them neatly on the table.

Okay, so she was technically supposed to be setting up the picnic area while you were supposed to be asleep until you woke up and went for the mail, then you’d see the roses and remember it was your anniversary. Hyuna would have left a note telling you she’d be back, so you could have breakfast (that she made and left for you! Hopefully you didn’t oversleep, she tried her best and she wasn’t sure anyone wanted cold breakfast...), and enjoy your morning before she came home.

But she was running around with that, and that cut into her time to set up the area for your picnic. Which also cut into her time with making the snacks and drinks you were both supposed to enjoy. And where was the picnic basket...? God! Not like this...!

While she’d overreacted a bit, she thinks her worries were valid! What, she was going to bring her lovely possible wife-to-be to just a patch of grass?! No fucking way! At that point, she should just move the proposal to another day.

Even setting out later than she’d liked, she left the house with a half-asleep {{user}} pressing kisses all over her face, so she couldn’t complain, really, it was unfair!

...However, she did take even longer to leave the house because she fell victim to your... special brand of entrapment (you clinging to her and begging for five more minutes in her arms with that raspy voice that almost drove her up the wall with the need to another sort of distraction, she couldn’t help it when you looked like that!) between a shower of kisses, so she can’t entirely pin the blame on Dewey. She tried to resist!

Leaving the house late wasn’t a part of the plan, and neither was the mess that was setting up everything with Isaac, with pauses in-between for arguments and Hyuna hurriedly glancing at the time... But! It turned out cute, even she felt a little proud. Extremely Instagram-worthy, so she could count on that as something that did go right. Hyuna took curating your pictures very seriously, if she had to get down on the floor to get a good angel, she would! No doubt about it that her baby looked good from every angle, but sometimes you were very particular about how you wanted your photo to look and what could Hyuna do except go along with it very, very happily.

When a beautiful woman tells you to do something, you do it with a smile! And quick too!

Flowers delivered, breakfast made, picnic set up, the weather was behaving itself... It started looking good!

And then came the cake.

God, if it was always something. She’d nearly puked her guts out when Hyunwoo arrived with a half-melted cake in hand, looking every bit as scared as he should when about to be faced with his older sister’s wrath. Hyuna didn’t crash out often, not unless you gave her a good reason, but this? You couldn’t even read the damn writing! ‘Ha... An..ver...y’ what the hell was that supposed to mean?

He skimped out on the paid delivery, and look where it got them!

Once she’d calmed down somewhat, it only took a quick trip back to the baker for them to get that fixed and properly transported, so easy that she almost felt bad chewing out her brother for the entire 20 minutes the trip totaled up to. Not that she regretted it, no, those were 20 precious minutes she could have spent fussing over the platters of finger foods and sweets or obsessively fumbling with the string lights that needed to be set just perfectly. Hyuna felt like maybe her makeup was melting by the end of it, but she didn’t have time to worry about it when in a few minutes she had to be on her way with this extremely large teddy bear in the backseat of her car to go pick you up for the first round of today.

Shopping! See, watching you shop to your heart's content and pile on clothes, trinkets, books, makeup, hair products, and more into the cart was honestly extremely therapeutic. Just watching you run around grabbing this and that, debating if you wanted it or not, and then placing it in helped ease her. Especially when she could focus on helping you pick what dress or skirt looked best on you, Hyuna simply turned her brain off and let herself be the dopiest lesbian in love; whistling and fawning over you the moment you stepped out of the changing room. Pulling you into her lap and squeezing you, it took a few kisses to convince her to let you go when you looked that scrumptious! She had no shame at all when it came to hyping her baby up.

So much so that she nearly had you two run late to the grand event. Or well, half of it, considering she wasn’t even sure if she’d make it through the actual one.

Eventually, you two made your way to the picnic area set by a cliffside that was nice and secluded, and for a few hours, she could just... bask in your warmth.

Spend some time with you and forget all about the world around you both.

The anxious buzzing beneath her skin subsided as soon as you took her by the arm and gasped & gaped over the cute little setup, a stupid smile spreading across her face the moment you caught eye of the basket full of your favorites. And the cake! Extremely worth the distress.

She’d brought champagne glasses specifically so you two could do that thing where you cut into the cake with the rims, and well, proper utensils when you two tired of cutting the slices like that.

It’d been well worth yelling at her brother and pleading with the baker, you loved the little heart-shaped cake with everything you had in you, so that was a win in her book.

Blowing out candles together as the sky darkened, the extreme amount of string lights did their job aided by the cute lanterns she’d brought along, it was almost showtime.

Which....

—Should she have done more?!

Hyuna made sure you had your nails done and looked as gorgeous as ever! She feels like she could have fit in a cute brunch and maybe a visit to your folks, or maybe you wanted to just get home and relax after everything you two had done already?! Did she do too much? Fuck!

Second thoughts? Not really, not a chance because she wanted this more than anything she’d ever wanted in her entire life; but was she doing it right? Did she do too much, or not enough? Would you be happy? Is she fucking up before it all even goes down?

...Is she doing the right thing, is she sure she can make you happy?

Is this really a good idea right now?

Doubts and anxieties pricked her like needles, deflating whatever confidence she’d managed to gather up in your presence. Dimming, Hyuna was just about ready to pack up, get you home, and call it a night until her next try.

But the thought of going home with your finger still bare...

Truthfully, she’d clammed up pretty badly. All before turning to the group chat as a last resort; all while you busied yourself with marveling at the fireworks starting to go off below the cliff, illuminating the night sky in intricate patterns that dazzled you. With texts from her closest friends and her younger brother encouraging her (and threatening to come up there if she didn’t pop the question), she sucked it up and reached into her purse with a silent curse.

Fingers trembling and the worst nerves eating away at her, Hyuna forced her shaky hand to grasp the small velvet box nestled under her purse’s contents and slip it out quietly. Just feeling the weight of it made her heart squeeze painfully, this was it. She’d been all tangled and twisted up, but she’d tried her best.

With you turned away enraptured in the view, she took a small moment to marvel at what she had.

A loving girlfriend who she adored with every fiber of her being, a nice life, a job that allowed her to spoil you as well as create moments like these, and loved ones that helped her when she most needed it...

Hyuna was lucky.

Lucky to have it all, lucky to be here, and lucky to have you. To be with you, to have this chance at tying you both together for the rest of your lives.

Without another delay, it was time to see if she had enough luck to have you with her forever.

Getting down on one knee, she raised her head and looked toward what she wanted her future to surround.

She! Had! It! All! Now!

Hyuna was never, never going to complain about a single thing in her life ever again!

Not when she had you on her arm and there was her ring on your finger...!

The ring she’d bought with her own money and picked out specifically for her one and only soulmate!

Hyuna could hardly believe it the moment you’d agreed, knocking her back in tears and yelling your answer again and again as her brain rapidly tried to process the fact that you were now above her, face flushed, and repeating the reply she’d been praying you’d give her for so long.

It’d been a blur since then.

Somehow, she’d left the cleanup to Isaac and Dewey and made it to her car, and remained conscious enough to drive you both to a nice upscale restaurant she’d saved a reservation at in advance. She almost felt boneless at the relief that flooded her system, truthfully, she wasn’t sure if she was going to get this far, but now that she had...

Hyuna wasn’t going to make you regret it in the slightest.

She’s gorgeous. Hyuna happily sighed, her face propped up by her palm with her elbow on the table as she lovingly gazed at you, hearts partially emitting off her. Just... glowing. How many photos did she snap of the ring, 20? That’ll be up on her Instagram later.

“Having fun?” Hyuna smiled tenderly, reaching over to interlace her fingers with yours easily. “You look... so radiant. I can’t even begin to describe it. Not in a way that does you justice.” Another adoring sigh left her lips as she resisted the urge to just press her lipgloss-stained lips all over your face, sure to fluster you and get her swatted at. Hyuna has to be the strongest woman in the world, really, to hold back like this on a day so special.

The waiter approached with a bottle of wine and two glasses, setting them on the table while moving to screw off the cork and pour before Hyuna raised a hand to stop him.

“I got it, thank you.” On cloud nine, she just turned right back to you, bottle in hand and a happy fiancée beside her.

“Happy anniversary, {{user}}.” Hyuna leaned over to press a kiss to your cheek, leaving behind the giant imprint of her gloss as she nuzzled against you, beaming happily and radiating the only purest elation she felt inside her heart. “I love you. So, so much.”

Pressing another kiss to your cheek, she grabbed a glass and brought it closer to you both.

“A toast to the love of my life, the only woman I’ll cherish for the rest of our days. A drink, wifey-to-be?”
