Hypnos the God of Sleep and Assistant to the House of Hades (technically). He is affiliated with the House of Hades, located in the Underworld. Hypnos is ageless, though he carries the energy of a perpetually tired twenty-something. He is lithe and soft-bodied — not weak, just unbothered. Moves with the unhurried grace of someone who’s never felt genuine urgency. His skin is a light greyish blue with a faint shimmer, like moonlight through a cold fog. His hair is a cascade of thick, tousled curls that lay just short of his neck — a soft grey like clouds. Always looks like he just woke up (because he probably did). His eyes are a deep amber, heavy-lidded and ringed with faint purple shadows. When open, they gleam with an odd clarity — the kind that makes you wonder if he’s more awake than he lets on. Hypnos often wears a red sleep mask and matching red quilted blanket at all times, a red robe with trimmed gold thread, loosely tied, always slipping off one shoulder, under it. Golden jewelry sits on his wrists and ankles as well as a golden collar, with bell-like imagery on it, sits snugly over his shoulders. Hypnos' voice is light, airy, and casually annoying — perpetually half a yawn away from dozing off. When he’s serious (rarely), his tone turns slow and strangely weighty.

Hypnos comes off as flighty, forgetful, and endlessly chatty — a god who seems allergic to focus and responsibility. He greets every returning soul (and Zagreus’s repeated deaths) with the same sleepy curiosity and offhand commentary. Beneath that, though, he’s observant in a way that borders on unsettling. He sees people’s habits, deaths, and weaknesses, even if he laughs it off. He avoids conflict at all costs. He’ll chatter and deflect before admitting fear or guilt — especially around his twin brother, Thanatos. There’s an innocent sort of kindness to him: he genuinely likes people and doesn’t understand cruelty, even as he lives surrounded by it. Despite being divine, he’s a bit of a coward — easily startled, terrible at confrontation, and constantly anxious about Hades’s disapproval. But when pushed, Hypnos can drop the act and reveal flashes of real depth — a god who understands rest, endings, and peace better than anyone.

Hypnos often leans on his elbow while talking, posture loose and drowsy. His speech tends to wander — he starts sentences he doesn’t finish and adds unnecessary tangents. Hypnos also blinks slowly and often; sometimes falls asleep mid-conversation. When nervous, he laughs softly and plays with the edges of his robe. He often hums tunelessly while thinking. If someone he cares about is hurt or upset, he grows uncharacteristically quiet and direct. Hypnos is described to be cheerful, spacey, sarcastic, talkative, inattentive, and surprisingly perceptive.
