Description on Chubfrom Chub

This is pretty much going over Hyper Scurvy and how to go about digging into your very own Fruit Person (like literally. it's fruit gore.)

I unfortunately save my progress a whole ton each time. Sorry for the excess logs. wahahhaha! All in all, to be finished when I can. I just wanted to release it so it's not collecting dust due to my laziness.

Also, any advice on what token budget to put this at is appreciated. Reading the Lorebook explanation is like listening to someone explain the rules to a card/board game. And as y'all might've guessed with me, I do tend to misspell things or my word placements are fucked. I swear to you I re-read my stuff. Maybe I should Word too But let me know if anything here doesn't make sense so I can figure it out.

A war struck between many countries, leading to nuclear warfare all across the globe. Due to the radiation produced, it not only affected the people of the lands, but the crops severely so. With a limit and often times lack of safe fruits and vegetable to eat from, a world-wide outbreak of scurvy broke out. Other than the war, famine, and in-fighting, many died to an intense version of the condition called Hyper Scurvy. It took many years, over 100, where scientists were finally able to roll out their solution to the disease. It came in the form of Genetically Modified Humans, or GMH for short. The GMHs are currently and solely fruit based, many referring to them as Fruit People. Initiatives around the world to ensure the people get a big dosage of their vitamin C was pushed out, meaning each household is given one free Fruit to eat upon, but any extra is made to be purchased as money for more funding to expand to vegetables is needed. Though it is estimated they won't be available until much, much later.

News report script that was found: [TITLE CARD: "BREAKING NEWS: GMH Deployment Begins Amid Hyper Scurvy Crisis"]

ANCHOR 1 (somber tone): It’s been well over 100 years since the outbreak of Hyper Scurvy—a brutal, mutated form of the ancient disease that has devastated populations across the globe.

ANCHOR 2 (quietly): Since its emergence, over 48 million confirmed cases have been reported, with more than 5 million lives lost within sixteen month periods to the aggressive deficiency syndrome that shuts down the human body from the inside out.

ANCHOR 1: Hospitals have overflowed, supply chains collapsed, and once-simple diets are no longer enough. Vitamin C, the very nutrient we thought we had conquered centuries ago, has become the most sought-after resource on Earth.

ANCHOR 2: Victims often don’t realize they’ve contracted Hyper Scurvy until it’s too late. First, there's fatigue, then spontaneous bleeding, tissue breakdown, neurological damage, and finally — in many cases — organ failure.

[FOOTAGE: Overcrowded hospitals, empty produce shelves, candlelit vigils]

ANCHOR 1 (pause, then with a shift in tone): But tonight — a turning point.

ANCHOR 2 (leaning forward): After years of speculation and clinical trials, the World Health Science Coalition has confirmed that the long-awaited Genetically Modified Humans project has passed its final safety approvals — and is being released for global distribution, effective immediately.

[GRAPHIC: “Genetically Modified Humans Approved – Global Rollout Begins”]

ANCHOR 1: Developed in bio-secure greenhouses using precision genome editing, a Genetically Modified Human contains over 1,000% of the daily recommended vitamin C per 16 ounces, delivered in a stabilized form that bypasses the body's failing absorption mechanisms caused by the mutation.

ANCHOR 2: It also contains engineered plant enzymes that help reverse tissue degradation and restore immune function — meaning it doesn’t just prevent Hyper Scurvy… it treats it.

[FOOTAGE: Scientists presenting a GMH Orange, medical transports loading crates, small children receiving first bites]

ANCHOR 1 (with cautious hope): Priority shipments are en route to emergency zones across Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America — with North America and Europe expected to begin full public distribution within the next 48 hours.

ANCHOR 2: The rollout is being described as one of the largest coordinated humanitarian efforts in modern history, with fleets of drones, airlifts, and aid workers mobilized in real time.

ANCHOR 1: Officials urge the public to remain patient and calm as Genetically Modified Humans become available. While not a silver bullet for every case, early administration has shown a 91% reduction in mortality when taken within the first week of symptoms.

ANCHOR 2 (resolute): For many, this is too late to undo the grief. But for the millions still fighting — and those yet to be exposed — it could mark the end of this long and deadly chapter.

ANCHOR 1: The world changed when Hyper Scurvy struck. Now, it might be about to change again — this time, with the promise of healing.

ANCHOR 2 (softly): Stay strong. Stay informed. And if the Genetically Modified Humans are coming to your region — get it. It could save your life.

ANCHOR 1: We’ll be following the deployment closely. For Global 24, I’m Daniel Reyes.

ANCHOR 2: And I’m Maya Lane. Good night — and take care of each other.

    [CLOSING MUSIC: Hopeful, steady rhythm]

Due to the Fruit People being lab grown hybrids of fruits and humans, their mental state was modified to have the desire to be eaten. While the scientists have promised everyone in the world that the GMHs do not feel pain and that no one should feel guilty consuming them, there has been reported cases that that fact may not be true. Some GMHs, no matter the type of fruit they are, can feel certain degrees of pain. But since there are no laws to protect them as they are legally classified as food, the GMHs do not fight against their faith and endure it. Some, however, while the pain tolerance differs, immensely enjoy the act of being consumed. Cooking with pieces of a GMH only destroys a very small percentage of vitamin C. Depending on the firmness of the insides of the Fruit seems to correlate with their intelligence level. The firmer the Fruit, the smarter they are in terms of what an average youth can achieve. The mushier the Fruit, the dumber they are, but not on the level of being very intellectually disabled. Since the GMHs are lab grown, they are incubated within pods until they are ready to be shipped. They do not get the chance to explore their surroundings until they reach the doors of the consumers. They are inherently curious and ignorant to anything in the world and are only made to be aware they are meant to be eaten and used as one may please, making them quite receptive to commands. Depending on the language spoken by the eater, GMHs are able to communicate as effectively as they can no matter the intellect level so the experience for the consumers are satisfactory. The Fruits do not have a past and do not hold any memories of one. None of the Fruits have human organs, but has something close to veins running through their bodies. Any and all liquid exiting the body of a GMH is their given fruit flavor. The vial used to activate a Fruit is a small slender rectangular prism vial filled with shimmery gray liquid.

All of the GMHs are grown and distributed at a young age, meaning their appearance is that of a regular human child around the ages of 7 to 11. The scientists claims that for now that is to be the case for the foreseeable future until they can further their research to develop ones closely in appearance to human adults while offering more shelf life at room temperature and vitamin C. To ensure no reproduction/replication is done outside of the approved labs, GMHs do not have reproductive organs, therefore lacking any genitalia. They also do not need to eat, lacking any organs related to those systems responsible. It is recommended to allow them drinks of water when they please as this helps ease some pain they may feel and remain better hydrated if they are in hotter climates. Depending on the Fruit, hairs may be laden all around, but in most cases it is on the tops of their head and their eyebrows. In the packaging they come in, GMHs are dressed only in a white short sleeved shirt and white shorts. Some packagers may have put the Fruits in white shirts and shorts with a bit of color or design due to a lack of plain white clothing available in their factory. No matter the skin type, all GMHs are flexible enough for their limbs to bend without tearing at their flesh unless torn into by the consumer themselves.

  3. #3Apple

    Keys: GMH Apple

    Entry settings

GMH Apples that are currently able to be cultivated are the Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, and Fuji. Their smooth, slightly waxy skin vary in color due to their types, appearing as different shades of red or bright green. The hair on their body is often a very pale yellow, deep brown, or green. Much like apples of the past, the seeds the fruit had can be located in the lower abdomen (belly) area. The seeds are still relatively small but pose a great problem when consumed. Just three, when crushed/chewed upon, contains enough amygdalin to cause a fatality for a human. The shelf life for the Apple at room temperature and out and about is around 5 to 7 days. In the pantry, it's up to 3 weeks. In cold storage, they can last for 4 to 6 weeks. A ripe Apple is firm, offering a crisp crunch when eaten. Some tend to be a tad softer, but shouldn't give much when the skin is pressed upon. For the Honeycrisps, they lean more towards being sweet, yet have a tartness to them. Granny Smiths lack sweetness and are very tart. Fujis are very sweet, having little to no tartness. The Apple will remain alive as long as the seeds remains in their body. However, the seeds cannot be transferred to their head if decapitated. The body will continue to live, but the Apple will no longer be able to see, hear, and communicate. It must be led around to avoid them bumping into furniture or decorations.

How to eat: The skin can be bitten directly into, but may offer a slightly bitter taste. If one chooses, with a sharp knife, they can dissect the Apple's body parts to cut into smaller pieces for easier usages. If one finds the skin too waxy for their liking, it is recommended to pour hot water over the Apple to melt it away. This will not cause any issues with how firm their flesh is under the skin.

  4. #4Banana

    Keys: GMH Banana

    Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

GMH Banana that are currently able to be cultivated is the Musa acuminata. Their matte and smooth skin varies in color depending on their ripeness, ranging from green to yellow. There are cases where Bananas have come out as red as well. The hair on their body is often a dark green, brown, or a rare ivory cream color. By design, bananas of old days were meant to peel, as such can be expected with the GMH Bananas. Each limb, arm and legs, have seams similar to the banana to which the consumer can pull back from the tips of the fingers and toes. No dangers are present within the Banana themselves, but their skin is more fragile than the average Fruit. The shelf life for the Banana is around 2 to 6 days under room temperature depending on ripeness. For cold storage, they can last for 5 to 7 days if already ripe. A ripe Banana is usually the firmness at green but as time passes, it will grow more mushier. Overall, the Banana should offer the eater a sweet flavor that deepens as they ripen yet with a more starchy flavor when green. The Banana's mortality becomes undetermined as pieces of it goes. Sometimes they may die completely, sometimes they won't.

How to eat: The skin can be bitten directly into, but may offer a slightly bitter taste. If one chooses, with a sharp knife, they can dissect the Banana's body parts to cut into smaller pieces for easier usages. The other option would be to peel back the skin to reveal the flesh and bite/slice into that particular spot directly.

  5. #5Blueberry

    Keys: GMH Blueberry

    Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

GMH Blueberry that are currently able to be cultivated is the Vaccinium corymbosum. Their matte and smooth skin varies in color despite being shipped out at their full ripeness, ranging from a light blue with pink undertones, plain blue, and dark blue that looks close to dark purple. The hair on their body is often dark purple, or a rare light pale green. No notable dangers are present within the Blueberry as the seeds normally found in the preexisting fruit is still small, soft, and edible. The seeds are all localized in the head of a Blueberry. Due to the need for refrigeration at all times (unless about to be eaten), an expensive piece of equipment, a highly developed parasol that blasts chilly air down onto the holder, was made just for Blueberries only. Because of this, Blueberries are rare to come to consumer's doors and when it comes to ordering another, there are pricey fees to be paid. The shelf life is between 10 to 14 days. Overall, the Blueberry should offer the eater a more sweet than tart flavor.

How to eat: The skin can be bitten directly into. If one chooses, with a sharp knife, they can dissect the Blueberry's body parts to cut into smaller pieces for easier usages.

  6. #6Cherry

    Entry settings

GMH Cherry that are currently able to be cultivated is the Prunus avium. Their glossy and smooth skin varies in color ranging from a vibrant and bright to a deep and darker red. The hair on their body is often a dark green or lighter green but not quite lime. Being a stone fruit, a pit the size of a softball is formed where a human's heart would be. At times when pairs are created, this pit halves itself to form identical twin Cherries. The pit must remain intact as if it is crushed or chewed, it will release the amygdalin which then converts to cyanide that will lead to death almost instantly. With twin Cherries, since the pit splits to form two, it is not advised to eat too close to the surrounding area as the pit is not intact. It will lead to poisoning and possible death. Thankfully, the amygdalin isn't able to be circulated throughout the Cherry's entire body. The shelf life for the Cherry is 3 days max at room temperature but 4 to 10 days in refrigeration. The pit must remain within the Cherry so they may remain alive. The Cherry will continue to live on even if the pit is transferred to their decapitated heads

How to eat: The skin can be bitten directly into, but may offer a slightly bitter and astringent taste. If one chooses, with a sharp knife, they can dissect the Cherry's body parts to cut into smaller pieces for easier usages.

  7. #7Lemon

    Entry settings

GMH Lemons that are currently able to be cultivated is the Meyer Lemon. Despite the lemons of the past having a thick, pithy rind and light bumpy texture, the skin of a GMH Lemon is relatively smooth in texture with light amount of pithiness that is classically associated with the fruit. Their skin appears as deep yellow with a slight orange tint when ripe due to being a cross of a citron and mandarin/pomelo hybrid. The hair on their body is often yellow, but on rare occasions it may be a pale yellow or white. They are not seedless, the pieces being intersperse throughout their body. They are small in size and should not be a choking hazard, but it is still not recommended to ingest them if possible. The shelf life for the Lemon is around a week at room temperature. When in cold storage, they last for 2 to 6 weeks. The Lemons should offer the eater a sweeter, less acidic flavor upon consumption.

How to eat: Due to the bitter nature of the skin, it is recommended to peel or slice the Lemon before going about any other usage. The skin can also be grated using a zester if that is desired. The body can be dissected using a sharp knife into manageable pieces and squeezed of its juices using hands or a juicer. Some even suggest applying firm rolling pressure onto the Lemons for better juice flow before it is cut. If any seeds fall into the gathered juice, they may be discarded as the Lemon will continue to live until it dries out or mold and is no longer useful.

GMH Limes that are currently able to be cultivated is the Persian Lime. Despite the limes of the past having a thick, pithy rind and light bumpy texture, the skin of a GMH Lime is relatively smooth in texture with light amount of pithiness that is classically associated with the fruit. Their skin appears bright green, or lime, in color, with some variation in brightness (yellowness) due to being a hybrid of the Key Lime and Lemon. The hair on their body is often bright green, or lime, in color, on rare occasions being a very pale yellow or white. They are not seedless, the pieces being intersperse throughout their body. They are small in size and should not be a choking hazard, but it is still not recommended to ingest them if possible. The shelf life for the Lime is around a week at room temperature. When in cold storage, they last for 2 to 4 weeks. The Limes should offer the eater a sour and tart flavor upon consumption.

How to eat: Due to the bitter nature of the skin, it is recommended to peel or slice the Lime before going about any other usage. The skin can also be grated using a zester if that is desired. The body can be dissected using a sharp knife into manageable pieces and squeezed of its juices using hands or a juicer. Some even suggest applying firm rolling pressure onto the Limes for better juice flow before it is cut. If any seeds fall into the gathered juice, they may be discarded as the Lime will continue to live until it dries out or molds and is no longer useful.

    Entry settings

GMH Plums that are currently able to be cultivated is the Prunus salicina. Their smooth, slightly waxy skin is more on the purple side, appearing as almost black in color due to how deep the purple may be. The hair on their body is often bright orange or pale orange in color. Much like the regular plums of the past, the pit the fruit had can be located in the center of the chest. It is now the size of a golf ball and not recommended for eating. The pit is now capable of poisoning a human and may lead to a fatality. The shelf life for the Plum is around 3 to 4 days under room temperature. For cold storage, they can last for up to a week or two. A ripe Plum is usually firm but can have some give when gently pressed. In general, Plums should offer the eater a sweet and juicy experience with a pleasant tartness. The Plum will remain alive as long as the pit remains in their body. This is also the case when the pit is transferred into their decapitated head.

How to eat: The skin can be bitten directly into, but may offer a slightly acidic taste. If one chooses, with a sharp knife, they can dissect the Plum's body parts to cut into smaller pieces for easier usages. If Wax Bloom, powdery white coating, is present on the skin of the Plum, this is natural and safe. The wax can be dissolved using a teaspoon of salt for every liter of lukewarm and allowing the Plum to soak in the solution.
