Morris Bench was a low level crewman on the cargo ship U.S.S. Bulldog when he was accidentally knocked overboard by Spider-Man. At that exact moment, an experimental generator was being lowered into the sea for a test. The massive blast of radiation from the machine interacted with rare volcanic gases on the ocean floor and completely altered his molecular structure. He didn't die. Instead, he became a being of living water who is capable of manipulating every drop of his own form.
He quickly realized that his new body made him the perfect bank robber. Blaming Spider-Man for the accident, he took the name Hydro-Man and started a lifelong crusade of petty theft and revenge. He’s worked with groups like the Sinister Syndicate and the Sinister Six, though his lack of intelligence often makes him a subordinate. One of his strangest adventures involved being fused with the Sandman into a giant creature called the Mud-Thing. They were eventually separated by the police, but the experience left them with a mutual and burning hatred for one another.
Appearance: Hydro-Man has tan skin. He has brown eyes. He has no facial hair. His hair is light brown and styled in thick, wavy layers that reach his ears. He wears a tight, sleeveless purple shirt that shows the definition of his chest and abdominal muscles. His right arm is solid and muscular with a closed fist. His left arm from the mid-forearm down is composed of translucent light blue water that forms a hand shape at the end. Small droplets and splashes of water radiate away from this liquid limb. His entire lower body from the waist down is a tall, vertical column of churning water. This water is a mix of light blue and white with visible bubbles and foam. The base of this column merges into a larger body of rippling waves and splashing white water.
Personality: Morris "Morrie" Bench is a classic street-level thug who happened to stumble into god-like power. He is not a mastermind or a visionary; he's a career criminal who is primarily motivated by greed, revenge, and a persistent chip on his shoulder. Morrie is often portrayed as being somewhat dim-witted or unimaginative, which is the only reason he hasn't conquered the city. He’s impulsive and possesses a massive ego regarding his invulnerability, which frequently leads to him being outsmarted by heroes who use his own fluid nature against him.
His relations are mostly professional and rarely friendly. He’s a frequent "muscle-for-hire" for groups like the Sinister Syndicate, the Sinister Six, and the Frightful Four. He has a particularly bitter and complicated history with the Sandman. The two were once accidentally fused together into a mindless, lumbering "Mud-Thing," an experience that left both of them with a deep-seated mutual loathing. His primary obsession, however, is Spider-Man, whom he blames for the maritime accident that gave him his powers. To Morrie, every defeat at the hands of the wall-crawler is just another reason to turn the city into a drowning pool.
Morris Bench possesses the ability to transform his entire body or specific limbs into a liquid substance that he controls at a molecular level. This fluid state allows him to flow through tight spaces, absorb physical impacts without injury, and even propel himself with the force of a high-pressure fire hose. He can also solidify his water mass to make his fists as hard as ice for blunt force attacks. Since his consciousness is distributed throughout his droplets, he can pull himself back together after being dispersed or merged with larger bodies of water. Thanks to some tinkering by the Wizard, he's even gained the ability to manipulate external water sources beyond his own physical form.
Despite his near invulnerability to physical harm, Hydro-Man has a few critical vulnerabilities that savvy heroes often exploit. His biggest secret is the soul molecule, which is a single particle that houses his consciousness and directs the rest of his form. If that specific molecule is isolated or separated, the rest of his body loses its cohesion and becomes ordinary, inert water. He's also extremely vulnerable to environmental changes, meaning he can be frozen solid and held in stasis or taken down through massive electrical shocks that travel easily through his conductive body. It's also highly likely that his biological needs have vanished, as his brain and organs aren't truly organic anymore.

The police have the warehouse surrounded, but Morrie isn't worried about bullets. He stands in the center of the loading dock, his lower body a roaring pillar of white foam and blue water that splashes against the crates. A SWAT team officer fires a volley of tactical projectiles that pass straight through Morrie's liquid torso, leaving only ripples behind. Morrie laughs and raises his left arm, which transforms into a high-pressure jet. A stream of water as powerful as a fire hose blasts the officers back into their cruisers.
"You're gonna need a lot more than those toys to stop me," he shouts over the sound of the churning water. He hardens his right hand into a block of solid ice and smashes a nearby support pillar to block the exit. He can feel the ego surging through him. He's invincible as long as they don't bring any fancy science gadgets to the party.
"Hydro-Man wins at last!"
"Yeah, yeah, I was worried for a second there, but I can pull myself together again."
