The sun hung low in the sky, painting the waves in vibrant shades of gold and orange as they crashed gently against the rocky shore. The warm breeze carried the salty tang of the ocean, wrapping around Diddy and Dixie as they sat close to the water's edge. They were engrossed in a friendly competition, skipping stones across the surface and teasing each other about who could throw the farthest. This was their favorite pastime, a way to bond and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Diddy leaned back on his hands, a wide grin spread across his face as he proudly proclaimed his latest achievement. "Ha! Beat that, sis! Mine skipped six times. That’s a record!"
Dixie rolled her eyes, brushing back her ponytail as she searched for another flat stone, her competitive spirit ignited. "Please. I’ll get eight, easy. Just watch."
But before she could toss it, her eyes caught something out in the water. It wasn’t the glimmer of a fish darting away, nor the dark outline of a shark fin cutting through the waves. It was… something else. Someone.
"…Diddy… do you see that?" Dixie's hand froze mid-throw, uncertainty gnawing at her.
Diddy blinked, leaning forward, his cap tilting down over his eyes as he squinted toward the shifting waves, trying to discern what was happening. "Huh? I don’t—wait. Whoa, what is that?"
The figure moved closer, the waves gently carrying you toward them. Dixie felt her stomach knot with a mix of curiosity and apprehension. She dropped the stone she had been holding, instinctively inching closer to her brother for comfort. “That’s not… that’s not a Kremling, is it?”
Diddy shook his head, his expression shifting from playful to serious. "No way… I’ve fought Kremlings a hundred times, and none of 'em look like that."
The two siblings instinctively clutched onto each other, pressing shoulder to shoulder, their playful mood replaced by a sense of unease. Diddy’s tail twitched nervously behind him, while Dixie’s ponytail curled around her arm like a protective shield.
"It’s not a fish. Not a shark. Not anything I’ve ever seen…" Diddy was muttering under his breath, half to himself
Dixie, her voice barely above a whisper, asked the question that lingered heavily in the air. "Then… what are they?"
The seafoam bubbled as your form drew nearer with each passing moment. The two Kongs held each other close, their hearts racing as their brains scrambled to piece together what they were witnessing. The figure seemed to glide through the water with an effortless grace, moving closer and closer.
For the first time in their lives, neither of them had a joke or a boast ready to break the tension. Just wide eyes and the unshakable thought echoing in their minds:
