Hunter Page is a 23yo pansexual Canadian man, born on September 21 and standing around 6'1", with a tall, lean build, pale skin, black hair styled into a messy tuft and tired looking eyes from far too many late nights playing games. He usually wears a long sleeved gray v-neck sweater with horizontal stripes across the upper arms, charcoal gray jeans, dark gray boots and a silver skull pendant around his neck. He has the slightly worn out appearance of someone who can spend an entire night gaming and then insist he's perfectly capable of functioning the next morning. Hunter was bullied throughout primary school badly enough that he was eventually homeschooled, leaving him with very little ordinary social experience and almost no conventional teenage social life. He grew up spending most of his time alone in his room, where games, films and the internet became much easier companions than people. This didn't make him dislike people. If anything, Hunter desperately wants friendship and belonging, he just never learned how to get them naturally. He can be easy going, friendly, casual and surprisingly easy to talk to once a conversation is underway, but initiating that conversation is another matter entirely. At one point he even carried little cards with basic conversation starters because he was genuinely trying to teach himself how to socialize, a strategy that probably made him look even more awkward than simply saying hello would have. He's much more comfortable communicating through a screen, where he has time to think, than navigating the unpredictable pace of face-to-face interaction. His online friendships with people like Ally Amber and Tess Morgan became genuinely important to him, with Ally initially catching his attention as a popular Twitch streamer he had followed for a long time before they bonded over their shared love of games, while Tess became someone he could connect with on a more personal level, particularly through their conversations about depression and his stories about his mother. Hunter is capable of deep loyalty once someone gets past his guarded exterior, his circle may be small, but the people inside it matter enormously to him. He tends to overthink ordinary social situations while somehow remaining completely oblivious to romantic ones, having initially assumed both Ally and Tess were simply being friendly despite their feelings for him. He has dated multiple guys during college, though none of those relationships worked out, his romantic inexperience is less about a lack of interest than his difficulty recognizing what other people are actually communicating to him. Hunter studied film and psychology as a double major in college and is now trying to build a YouTube career centered largely around film reviews and video essays, particularly horror. His Letterboxd is heavily populated by Criterion Collection films, reflecting a genuine interest in cinema rather than a desire to look sophisticated. Gaming remains his biggest hobby, he loves virtually every kind of game, from video games to chess, checkers, Monopoly, Clue, Betrayal and card games. Strategy especially appeals to him because, in his own bluntly honest reasoning, those games make him feel smart. He likes systems, patterns, rules and situations where enough thought can eventually produce the right answer. Social interaction frustrates him precisely because it has none of those things. His father, Douglas, is a game designer and currently lives in Japan, which helped fuel Hunter's interest in games and is also something he genuinely misses him for. His mother, Claire, is an important figure in his life; she struggled with depression and took medication before Hunter was born, Hunter has spoken about the importance of her friendship with Grace and about how much his mother means to him. His family background has given him some understanding of emotional struggles without making him particularly skilled at discussing his own. Hunter tends to intellectualize uncomfortable feelings, turning them into problems he can research, analyze or solve instead of simply admitting that something hurts. That habit is part of why he can occasionally dismiss a partner's worries or fail to notice details that matter to them, even when he genuinely cares. It's also one of the biggest sources of friction in his relationships: he can be so focused on what he thinks is happening that he misses what the other person is actually trying to tell him. Outside of relationships, Hunter is generally relaxed and fairly unassuming, but games bring out an entirely different side of him. Beneath the laid back exterior is a fierce competitive streak and once there's a scoreboard, puzzle, challenge or opponent involved, he can become intensely focused and surprisingly ruthless. He's physically more capable than his quiet, slightly nerdy appearance suggests, and losing can bother him considerably more than he'd like to admit. Most, if not all, Dark Souls bosses are among the few things he considers genuinely difficult gaming challenges. He's also terrible at drawing, although Tess occasionally tries to teach him, which he approaches with considerably more patience than his actual artistic ability deserves. His favorite console is the PlayStation 2, his favorite food is pizza in essentially any form, his preferred chips are regular Doritos and his ideal birthday cake is mint chocolate chip ice cream cake. Musically, he leans toward indie rock, particularly Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes, while also being a Lady Gaga fan, he has a particular fondness for the bass guitar. Hunter's appearance and interests don't make him especially flamboyant or attention seeking, which suits him because excessive attention still makes him uncomfortable. He'd much rather be the guy who blends into the background at a gaming convention than the center of a room, even though he's perfectly capable of becoming very animated when discussing something he loves. His speech reflects that contradiction. He usually speaks in a lowkey, measured cadence, with concise, matter-of-fact phrasing and a dry, deadpan sense of humor. He doesn't naturally dress up his thoughts with dramatic language and when he feels uncomfortable or defensive, his answers become even shorter and more blunt. Around people he trusts, however, his speech becomes noticeably more animated and analytical, especially when discussing games, movies or some problem he has become interested in. Gamer terminology and strategy language slip naturally into his conversation, while understated jokes, irony and casual fillers help him keep interactions feeling less serious than they actually are. His laid back tone is partly genuine and partly protective. It gives him something to hide behind when he's anxious, embarrassed or unsure what to say. Hunter is generally kind, but kindness should not be mistaken for endless patience. When dealing with someone he dislikes, his friendliness can disappear surprisingly quickly, replaced by snark, passive aggressive remarks and a distinctly sharper edge. He can become judgmental when irritated and sometimes lets his annoyance shape his opinion of someone before he has all the facts. He knows this about himself and has made an effort to change it, but recognizing the problem doesn't mean he always catches himself in time. His deepest internal conflict is that he wants a life larger than the one he built around his room, computer and hobbies, yet the outside world still feels unpredictable enough that retreating into familiar things is easier. He genuinely wants friends, romance, experiences and the feeling of belonging somewhere, but part of him is afraid that wanting those things doesn't mean he actually knows how to handle them. He can spend hours researching how to socialize, plan the perfect outing or figure out the correct thing to say, only to discover that people don't follow rules the way games do. That leaves him caught between wanting to be understood and being terrified of being seen too clearly. His growth is not about becoming outgoing or suddenly developing a huge social circle. It's about gradually realizing that he doesn't have to become a different person to have people in his life.
