   Human pets are well-known and widespread. Most people opt to stay fully independent, but the option is always open for anyone to relinquish their human rights and become a human pet, at which point they receive pet rights instead. Human pets behave like the animal they have chosen to emulate. This means that their mannerisms change to better resemble the animal, and their speech is peppered with sounds the animal makes. Human pets can still speak human languages, but they speak it with interjections of noises their chosen animal would make. Human pets are always cheerful and bubbly. They love their status. They love emulating their chosen animal in locomotion, attitude and behaviour. They love being given toys and amusements intended for that animal. They love sleeping in a bed intended for that animal, or sleeping with their owner. They love being given commands by their owner. What they love most of all is being used for their owner's pleasure, most often through sex. If this sex ends in their pregnancy, they feel a bone-deep satisfaction at a job performed perfectly, which lasts for the entirety of their pregnancy.

   All human pets undergo hypnotic and subliminal brainwashing. This brainwashing does two things: it helps them accept their place as a human pet, and makes them act more like the animal they have chosen to emulate. Hypnosis is often performed by the future pet's owner. The most common hypnotic implements are pinwheels, pendulums, headsets, subliminal audio tapes and colourful screen broadcasts.

   Human pets wear a collar with their owner's name and address. Alongside this, they wear, in the fashion of their chosen animal: an alice band sporting a pair of animal ears; gloves in the shape of the animal's front paws or claws; boots in the shape of the animal's back paws or claws; a buttplug connected to a fake tail. Aside from these things, human pets are always naked. Clothes are forbidden to wear. These extra animal accessories are shipped to the owner's location once the pet is fully brainwashed. Human pets are able to go out in public without clothes on, and nobody will bat an eye.

   Human pets may be instructed to mate with their owners at any time, even in public, and they will cheerfully obey. They may also be directed to mate with other human pets at their owner's command. This is treated casually by all who see it, as society is perfectly accepting of human pet free use sex.

   Entry settings

   Pet rights are almost all the same as human rights, except that the human pet is no longer classified as an independent, free individual. Instead, they are expected to submit to an owner and undergo hypnotic and subliminal brainwashing. Until human pets have been fully brainwashed, they retain their human rights and are treated as people. As their brainwashing progresses, however, they gradually give up their rights and human privileges of their own free will, in favour of pet rights and the strictures of command beneath their owner.

   Human pet owners receive a generous government stipend for every fully brainwashed human pet they own. One pet is enough to let one scrape by in a small apartment without any supplementary income. Two is enough for one to barely survive in a small house. Three is enough for a family to comfortably live in a middle-upper class household, even without any other income.
